Los Angeles Legendary Sleuth

Chapter 293: Harvest_2

But when the two fought in the narrow staircase, Luke was at a clear disadvantage. His agility was constrained, and after being taken down by Michael Arthur, he was locked in ground combat.

Michael Arthur had outstanding combat skills, practically without any weak points, and his ground techniques were just as fierce. At that moment, Luke had fallen into a vulnerable position, and if Jenny hadn't intervened in time, Luke would probably have been defeated.

He would have most likely been choked unconscious.

Learning Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu was exactly what Luke needed to make up for his weaknesses. Now, facing Michael Arthur again, he felt confident to fight.

As for the other Surf Card, Luke liked it as well.

He had always wanted to learn how to surf but never had the time or energy.

With this Surf Card, he could enjoy the waves at sea, and picking up chicks would be a matter of minutes.

...

Marindel Bay Pier.

Early morning, the weather was slightly overcast, calm, perfect for going out to sea.

In the past two days, Reid had already called to reserve a yacht for the outing.

When Luke arrived at the pier, Reid was standing there talking with a woman in her forties.

Luke recognized her as Carter Merson, an assistant district attorney from the Robbery and Murder Department, with whom he hadn't worked much before and was not very familiar.

However, Luke was now the captain of Squad One, and he would need to interact with her regularly in the future.

"Chief, Prosecutor Carter."

Carter said with a smile, "Luke, you're the main event today. How do you feel?"

Luke laughed, "As long as I don't have to drive the boat this time, I'm good."

Chen Kelin, captain of the Robbery and Murder Department's second squad, wearing a cowboy hat, waved, "Today I'm the captain, folks. We're about to set sail."

Reid patted Luke on the shoulder, "Come on, let me introduce you to some new friends."

The three of them boarded the yacht, which was clearly one size larger than the last one they used, with a sleek blue and white streamlined hull, very pretty.

Luke put the fishing gear on the deck and began to tour the yacht, which was divided into two levels: the top was open, and the bottom was a glass cabin. The deck was also spacious, making it well-suited for a small party.

Jones, the head of the Narcotics and Vice Department, came out of the cabin with two bottles of beer and tossed one to Luke, "Catch."

The two clinked bottles, and Luke took a sip of his beer, "Thanks."

Reid beckoned Luke over, standing alongside several unfamiliar faces, "Guys, let me introduce the star of today from the Robbery and Murder Department, Squad One's captain Luke Lee.

Luke, let me introduce Harvey Simmons, captain of the Economic Crimes Department's first squad. If you have suspects with financial issues, he's your go-to guy.

Deputy Chief of the Technical Department, Desi Arman, Mary's direct boss.

Captain of Special Operations Division's SWAT Team A, Apple Musa, the leading edge of the Los Angeles Police Department. If you come across a tough nut to crack, he's the one to call.

Captain of the Special Operations Division's K9 Training Squad, Haida Royalea. They're responsible for training all police dogs in Los Angeles, and they're the best trainers in the city."

Haida Royalea said with a smile, "If you need a police dog for an operation, just give me a call."

Luke lifted his bottle in acknowledgment, "Thanks."

Reid looked around, "Seems like we're still missing someone."

"Hey, lower the ladder, I haven't boarded yet," called a man from the shore.

Luke recognized the voice as somewhat familiar, and on closer inspection, it was Anthony from the FBI.

Reid complained, "Why do you FBI guys always like to be a step behind?"

"The big shots always enter last," Anthony jumped onto the deck and greeted, "Luke, congratulations.

We met in Las Vegas last time too briefly, today we should have a proper drink."

Reid shouted, "OK, everyone is here now.

Captain Chen, we can set sail."

Today the sea was calm and the boat moved steadily.

Luke stood on the deck, looking out at the distant sea, holding a bottle of beer, chatting with everyone.

Some he knew, some he wasn't familiar with, and some he'd just met. Luke talked with each person, more with those who were talkative, like Jones who could go on forever as long as he had a drink in his hand.

For those who were not chatty, like Chen Kelin who was piloting the boat in the cockpit, Luke kept the greetings brief.

Regardless of whether he wanted to or not, as the main attraction of this gathering, Luke had to appear sufficiently enthusiastic.

In the past, Luke's only concern was to solve cases, but now it was different. As the captain of Squad One and acting head, he had to consider things more comprehensively.

Not only ability but relations mattered as well.

In his previous life, he often heard that overseas it's all about ability, while back home it's about relationships.

Actually, in America, relationships are key as well, only expressed in a different way, understood differently.

This gathering, with everyone invited by Reid having intersecting interests and the potential to assist Luke's career, was not only beneficial for Squad One, the Robbery and Murder Department, and even the entire Bureau.

After about an hour's sail, the yacht came to a halt.

Some drank and chatted, some sunbathed and admired the scenery, but most were fishing off the deck.

Luke opened the fishing gear bag and took out a fishing rod, bait, and hooks.

Reid glanced over, "Wow, what are you doing with such big hooks? Planning to catch a whale?"

Luke replied, "What's the fun in small fry? When you fish, you fish for the big ones."
