Los Angeles Legendary Sleuth

Chapter 303 Huff_2

"How will the transaction take place?"

"Cash. You pay and you take the car."

"What's the price of the vehicle?"

"That depends on which car you want. Different cars have different prices; you should understand that."

"I want a black Ford SUV."

Huff paused for a moment, his expression turning slightly cautious, "Why that particular model?"

"I like that model. Is there a problem?"

"No, I can check for you. Consider this money a deposit." After saying this, Huff stood up, ready to leave.

However, as he turned around, he saw a young man with black hair standing in front of him, "Hey, kid, show some sense and move aside."

Luke flashed his badge, "I'm giving you one more chance."

"Sorry, sir, I shouldn't have been in your way." Huff forced a smile and prepared to leave by the side.

However, Black had already stepped in front of him, "Buddy, my money isn't that easy to take."

"Uh..." Huff glanced at Luke and then at Black, pulling out some bills from his pocket, "Haha, I was just joking, here's your money back."

Luke pressed down on Huff's shoulder, forcing him to sit back down, "Listen, we didn't come here to hear jokes. Four days ago, did someone buy a black Ford SUV through you?"

Huff nervously swallowed, "I don't know what you're talking about? Are you sure you've got the right person?"

Black reminded him, "Buddy, don't be shy now, you were talking fine just a moment ago. If you don't want to talk here, you can come with us to the station.

There's good coffee at the station, warm beds, and friendly officers. I'm sure you'd like it there."

"No no no, please don't do this, that's not where I should be."

"How do you know you won't like it if you don't go?"

"I've been there before, and I never want to go back again. Please don't make this difficult for me, I've already reformed."

Black said, "That's not what you were saying when you took the money just now. Want to review the video from the body cam to refresh your memory?"

Huff smacked his forehead, "Oh God, what do you really want from me? I was just helping a friend out, earning some household money..."

Luke said, "We're not interested in your petty business; we only want to know the identity of the person who bought the black Ford SUV."

Huff looked troubled.

Luke continued, "Why not speak up? Are you in cahoots with him?

Wow, that would be interesting.

The guy who drove the black Ford SUV robbed a bank, were you involved too?"

"No, I'm just a car salesman..." Huff looked helpless, "Alright, I'll tell you.

His name is Franco Murphy."

"How do you know him?"

"We were cellmates before."

"Do you know what he bought the car for?"

"I don't know, I follow the rules, I don't ask buyers about these things."

"Yesterday morning between 9 AM and 12 PM, where were you?"

"I was at home."

"Doing what?"

"Sleeping."

"Anyone can verify that?"

"I live alone."

"When was the last time you saw Franco Murphy?"

"I've only seen him once recently, at the time of the car purchase."

"Do you know where he is now?"

...

An hour later.

Killiam Motel.

Luke and Black drove to the vicinity of the motel.

About ten minutes later, two cars parked at the curb and several people got out sequentially.

Raymond, Jenny, Jackson, Anthony.

"Anthony, what are you doing here?"

"I want to see those bastards get caught with my own eyes."

"OK, I'll lead the team inside, and you stay out here with the patrol officers."

Anthony asked, "Are you sure that suspect named Franco Murphy is in the motel?"

"Through a car intermediary, we got Franco Murphy's mobile number, which is an anonymous card. The location shows right at this motel,"

His personal mobile card is no longer reachable.

"So, I think there's a very high possibility," Luke explained, then ordered to set up a stakeout and arrest operation.

First, Luke took Franco Murphy's photo to the motel's front desk to confirm that Franco Murphy was indeed staying at the motel before further arranging the arrest operation.

Considering that the rooms in the motel are not large, there was no need for too many people.

Anthony's injuries had not fully healed yet, so Luke didn't want him to participate in the action, instructing him to stay outside with a patrol officer on guard.

Anthony was somewhat reluctant, but since Luke was in charge of the case, he had to comply.

A squad was responsible for the arrest.

Luke, Little Black, and Jackson rushed in through the main entrance to arrest, while Raymond and Jenny guarded the back door to prevent Franco Murphy from escaping from the back.

Once everything was ready, Luke led his team to the second floor of the motel, right next to Franco Murphy's room.

Luke and Jackson hid on each side of the door, while Little Black stood in front, gun in both hands.

Luke signaled, and the operation began.

Jackson swiped the card through the door lock, and then Little Black kicked the door forcefully.

With a loud "bang!" the door was kicked open.

"LAPD!"

"Nobody move!"

The three, holding high-beam flashlights, stormed into the room, lighting it up brightly. The flashlights also served to prevent the suspects from opening their eyes.

The room was small, just one room and a bathroom.

"Clear."

"Clear." Luke and his team did not find any trace of Franco Murphy.

Then, Luke turned on the room light and carefully searched under the bed and in the wardrobe, but still found no sign of the suspect Franco Murphy.

Luke spoke into the radio, "The suspect's room has been searched, no sign of Franco Murphy found.

Everybody, stay alert."

At that moment, Luke was puzzled about what could have gone wrong.

The mobile location was indeed this motel, and upon their arrival, the receptionist had confirmed seeing Franco Murphy, who had not left after entering.

If so, how could Franco Murphy have disappeared?

Little Black was also frowning; he had found this lead. If they couldn't find the person, it would have been a wasted effort, "Captain, what do we do now?"

"Call for backup and search the entire motel thoroughly..."

"Stay where you are, don't move!"

"Bang, bang, bang..."

Just then, a burst of gunfire was heard not far away.

Luke quickly went outside to check and found two figures in the direction of the gunshots, one of whom looked like the FBI's Anthony.

The other figure was slowly falling down.

Luke called out loudly, "Anthony, are you okay?"

"I'm fine, I think I hit him."

"Franco Murphy?"

"Yes, he tried to escape, and I caught him squarely."

Luke quickly went downstairs to check, and sure enough, Franco Murphy was lying on a lawn not far from the motel, his body covered in blood, hit by several bullets, and already breathless.

"You killed him."

Anthony shrugged, "It was very dark, and he suddenly popped out from there; I was startled.

I warned him not to move, but I saw his hand going into his pocket, so I fired."

"You did the right thing." Luke crouched down to inspect, Franco Murphy's right hand was in his pocket, revealing half of a handgun.

Franco Murphy was also carrying a large bag; Luke opened it and found dozens of bundles of cash and some jewelry, confirming that he was indeed the bank robbery suspect.

The good news is that they caught a robber and recovered some of the stolen goods.

But the bad news is that the man is dead, and the leads could easily be cut off.

Little Black also came over to check, "How did this guy get out? Why wasn't he in the room? Maybe he knew we were coming to arrest him, so he hid somewhere else, waiting for a chance to escape."

After saying this, Little Black shook his head, "That doesn't make sense either. If he knew the police were coming, he should have escaped earlier, why wait until the police arrived to run?"

Luke was also doubtful, but as the captain, he had to consider the overall situation, "Jenny, contact the forensics and tech teams.

Raymond, have the patrol officers secure the scene.

Jackson, pull the motel's surveillance."

"Yes, sir."
