Los Angeles Legendary Sleuth

Chapter 305: Closing the Net (10000 Words) _3

Having had two not-so-successful arrest attempts before, Luke made sure to be fully prepared this time.

Soon, the police confirmed the address of Andres Towns's residence, a bungalow with a blue pointy roof, roughly the size of the house Luke rented, though with a slightly smaller yard and situated in a marginally worse neighborhood.

In the evening, from within a black SUV, Luke gazed through his binoculars at the blue pointed-roof house.

Next to him, Jackson asked, "Captain, it's going to be dark soon. When do we arrest the suspect?"

Luke had also considered this question, "The time isn't right yet."

"Captain, what moment are you waiting for?"

Luke didn't respond, instead pointing his right hand in the direction of the suspect's house.

Just then, a blue sedan pulled up beside the blue pointed-roof house, and a Mexican man got out and walked to the trunk to retrieve a bag.

The Mexican man carried the bag to the doorway and knocked on the door.

After a moment, the door opened and a Caucasian man half appeared, taking the bag and handing the man two US Dollars.

The Mexican man turned and left, driving away.

Luke kept his binoculars tightly trained on the scene, then he grabbed the radio, "Marcus, after he leaves the neighborhood, have the patrol officers stop that car. I want a word."

"Captain, could the driver of that car be an accomplice to the robber?"

"It's not ruled out, but I think it's more likely he's a delivery man."

"Roger."

Luke continued issuing tasks, "Raymond, Jenny, you guys keep watch here."

"Yes, sir."

Subsequently, Jackson drove out of the neighborhood, chasing after the blue sedan.

By the time Luke emerged from the neighborhood, the blue sedan had already been intercepted and was parked by the roadside.

The patrol officer asked the Mexican man to get out of the vehicle and then frisked him.

"Sir, I haven't broken any laws, not even speeded. Why stop my car?"

The patrol officer did not reply but finished the search and said to Luke, "Sir, he has no weapons on him."

Luke approached the Mexican man, "Buddy, sorry to stop your car. We are investigating a criminal case and would like to ask for your cooperation."

"What criminal case? What does it have to do with me?"

Luke counter-asked without answering, "What do you do?"

"I'm a delivery man, is there an issue?"

"Did you just deliver food to a client in this neighborhood?"

"Yes."

"Do you know that client?"

"Uh... wouldn't say I know him; I've delivered to him a few times. He's not very talkative, always gives a two US Dollar tip."

"What did he order?"

"A pizza meal for two, an apple pie, and a fried chicken."

"When was the last time you delivered to him?"

"I can't remember exactly, but it should have been about a week ago."

"What did he order then?"

"Seems like a pizza for one meal... can't recall the specifics."

"Besides him, did you see anyone else in the house?"

"No."

"I need you to keep our conversation confidential, don't tell anyone about this, and no more contact with that client."

"Yes, sir."

"Good, I wish you a smooth workday," Luke patted his shoulder, signaling that he could leave.

Jackson approached and reminded him, "Captain, the information we previously obtained mentioned Andres Towns lives alone. Why did he order two meals?"

"That means we have an unexpected gain tonight."

"What do we do now?"

"We keep waiting," Luke decided to play it safe.

Anthony's team had searched a robber's home last time and encountered a bomb trap set up by the robber. Forcing the arrest of two suspects under such circumstances could be very dangerous and introduce many unpredictable factors.

Luke decided to wait a little longer, even considering making a forced arrest when the suspect was asleep later in the night.

Stakeout and patience are essential traits for a police officer.

Time ticked away by the second.

At slightly past eight in the evening, the door of the blue pointy-roof house opened, and a man walked out, driving away in a pickup truck.

Over the radio, Marcus's voice came through, "Captain, should we stop the robber's truck?"

"Not yet, move cautiously, follow him, and seize him only when we find an appropriate opportunity," Luke kept observing through his binoculars, only one robber got into the vehicle, another might still be inside the house. Any issues during the interception could alert the other robber.

If there was a bomb in the house, the arrest operation could lead to unpredictable dangers.

...

Levin's Bar.

The robber's pickup truck parked near the bar.

A man wearing a baseball cap and with tattoos on his neck got out and walked straight to the entrance of the bar.

Once inside, he started moving to the music of the bar, watching the writhing crowd with a smirk on his face.

Wearing the baseball cap, the man approached the bar, laid down a ten US Dollar bill, and shouted, "Whiskey, please."

The bartender poured a whiskey and placed it in front of him. The man picked up the glass and downed it in one gulp.

"Oh yeah."

The man in the baseball cap seemed even more excited, gyrating into the dance floor, shaking and swinging, completely caught up in the excitement.

Suddenly, the man felt people close in on either side of him, and before he could react, his arms were firmly pinned.

Then he felt a chill on his back, and an electric shock surged from behind, causing his body to tremble, his limbs to go numb, and his mouth to emit "uh-uh" sounds.
