Los Angeles Legendary Sleuth

Chapter 448: Buying a House

After leaving the Walker family, Luke went to the 99 Ranch Market, the largest Chinese supermarket chain in America.

This supermarket caters well to Chinese traditional festivals. There are rice balls for the Lantern Festival, rice dumplings for the Dragon Boat Festival, mooncakes for the Mid-Autumn Festival, and everything that Chinese people need can be bought here.

Luke walked around the supermarket, and his overall impression was that vegetables were more expensive than meat.

Tonight, Luke was planning to organize a family gathering as a welcome for his dad. He had been busy closing cases in the past few days, and only today did he have the time, so naturally, he wanted to do it well.

In the past, family gatherings mostly involved barbecue, but today Luke decided to try something different and have hotpot.

Luke bought meat, seafood, and dipping sauces, filling up the car trunk completely.

Back home, Li Zhaofeng had also returned, and the father-and-son duo were too lazy to cook. They brewed some tea and ate a few wife cakes.

After resting for a while, they started preparing the ingredients for the family gathering dinner.

Eating is the easiest way to achieve satisfaction in modern society. Putting some effort into food will provide a better experience in life.

By four in the afternoon, the hotpot ingredients had been prepared, and the drinks were ready too, including white wine, red wine, beer, and whiskey.

Luke's relatives began arriving one after another.

The first to arrive were his mom and the little fatty.

Yesterday, Li Zhaofeng had already met the little fatty. He picked him up from school and had dinner together, but he didn't see the legendary little girlfriend.

The little fatty and Linda got out of the car one after the other.

Luke walked over and kissed Linda's cheek, "Mom, you look beautiful today. I like your pendant."

The little fatty revealed a proud expression, "I gave it."

"Really? Where did you get the money?"

The little fatty stretched out his palm, "Are you going to reimburse me?"

Luke waved his hand, "No, let's just pretend I didn't ask."

Li Zhaofeng also came over to greet, "Linda, you look the same as I remember, not much has changed."

Linda pouted, "Is that a compliment?"

"Yes, you are still so young and beautiful... That's what I wanted to convey."

"You don't have to be so subtle. I've said it many times before..." Linda seemed to think of something, shook her head, "Never mind.

Is dinner ready? Do you need any help?"

"No, we've already prepared everything."

Perhaps it was because they hadn't seen each other for a long time, there was some awkwardness and unfamiliarity in their interaction, and they soon ran out of things to talk about.

The little fatty interjected, "Dad, what delicious food have you guys made? I'm really hungry now."

Li Zhaofeng introduced, "We have prepared hotpot, along with fried chicken legs and pizza."

The little fatty showed an excited expression, "Wow, those are all my favorites."

The fried chicken legs and pizza were ordered by Luke. Luke was worried that they might not be used to eating hotpot, so he ordered more familiar main dishes like pizza and fried chicken legs.

Eating hotpot with fried chicken sounds a bit unusual, but if you think about it, most Sichuan-style hotpot restaurants have crunchy meat, which doesn't feel out of place when eating.

Now the crunchy meat has become fried chicken legs, wouldn't it be even tastier.

Luke brought out the folding dining table and set it in the yard, preparing to eat hotpot outside. The weather now was neither too hot nor too cold, perfect for an outdoor gathering.

Once the tables, chairs, and ingredients were set up, Robert and Val also arrived by car.

"Hi, Robert." Li Zhaofeng stepped forward for a warm hug.

Robert glanced at Li Zhaofeng and didn't show any unusual reaction despite his divorce from his daughter, "Hey, kiddo, how long has it been since we last saw each other.

Aside from my daughter receiving alimony and praising you, I haven't heard much from you for a long time.

You should come by often."

Li Zhaofeng humbly accepted, "You're right, I'll focus more on the kids in the future."

Robert patted his shoulder, "You're a lucky guy, with two great kids, haha."

Linda "..."

Val "..."

Li Zhaofeng shook hands with Val, "Buddy, how have you been recently? I heard you found a new job."

Val laughed, "Not bad, I've been working at a supermarket lately.

Dad said if I can work steadily at the supermarket for three years, he would consider investing in a small convenience store for me to run."

Li Zhaofeng said, "Then congratulations in advance."

The little fatty chimed in, "Uncle, at that time, can I work part-time at your store?"

Val thought it over and said seriously, "Of course, I'll give you a chance for an interview."

The little fatty rolled his eyes.

With everyone present, the hotpot was placed on the table, featuring a divided pot with one curry flavor and one spicy flavor.

The table was filled with various ingredients, including meat, seafood, vegetables, and mushrooms. Luke first put half a box of lamb to flavor the pot.

Worried that his mom, Robert, and Val wouldn't like lamb, he had also bought plenty of beef rolls.

The little fatty, starving, couldn't wait for the pot to boil and started eating the freshly heated fried chicken leg with a crackling sound, it was so crispy.

Even Luke was tempted.

He muttered to himself, "You know what? I absolutely love that sound."

Val curiously asked, "Why didn't your girlfriend come?"

"Yeah, Maggie has been quite busy lately, so I came by myself."

Val shrugged, "I thought you guys had broken up."

The little fatty "..."

You must be jealous of me, that's right.

Both pots had communal ladles, and Robert used one to scoop a spoonful of lamb from the curry pot, ate a piece dipped in the sauce, and gave a thumbs up, "I like this taste, it's great."
