Heaven Slaying Blade

Chapter 1175: Who is that person?

Xu Yan clutched the token in her hand, her heart in a state of extreme tension. When she saw the small tower, her heart almost leaped from her throat! She thought to herself, "I must be crazy to trust the words of a stranger so implicitly; if he wanted to harm me, I would certainly die a horrible death. But... such a terrifyingly powerful being wouldn't need to go to such lengths to kill me. He could have simply appeared later, and I might already have been killed by Guo Wenchang."

Thinking of Guo Wenchang, the nervousness in Xu Yan's heart gradually subsided, turning into sadness. But more than that... there was anger!

Guo Wenchang had indeed gone mad. Not only had he betrayed Liu Yun and caused the deaths of so many comrades, but in the end, he even wanted to kill her. And the reason for killing her was simply because her desire to rescue Liu Yun would affect him!

The ugliest side of human nature was fully embodied in Guo Wenchang. Xu Yan mourned the years of friendship that still couldn't withstand the temptation of profit, and grieved that among her companions who had grown up with her since childhood, now only Liu Yun remained.

"So no matter what, even if it costs me my life, I must rescue Liu Yun!" With such resolve, Xu Yan's heart miraculously calmed down.

The closer she approached the tower, the calmer her heart became.

By the time she reached the entrance of the tower, Xu Yan's heart had become completely serene, and her usually cold face now carried a touch of arrogant pride.

The Xu Yan of now appeared like a handsome and carefree native son of the heavenly road, swaggering toward the tower.

Just as she reached the doorway, a figure materialized in front of her, casting a cold glance at Xu Yan and said sternly, "Halt."

Without much ado, Xu Yan presented the token, her heart almost devoid of apprehension, settled in a calm that she herself found somewhat unbelievable.

The man glanced at the token in Xu Yan's hand, his eyes filling with a sense of reverence as he respectfully said, "I did not know a distinguished emissary would arrive in person. Please forgive my transgression."

Xu Yan waved her hand dismissively, "Take me to see that person, I have words for her."

"Yes!" The man's expression grew even more reverent, and his look toward Xu Yan was filled with awe.

The token belonged to Lord Luo Jue!

Though it was only the lowest-rank copper token, the bearer was not someone they could afford to provoke.

After entering the tower, an elixir fell directly from Xu Yan's body.

The cultivator hesitated for a moment, "Emissary, your..." Before he could finish, the true immortal at the pinnacle of his power, a native cultivator of the heavenly road, collapsed onto the ground.

A slight shock crossed Xu Yan's mind as she thought, "That's so powerful!"

Without any hesitation, she flashed into the second floor of the tower. The place was deserted, empty. Xu Yan then ascended to the third floor, and there, too, lay a person.

Xu Yan's form flickered from floor to floor, and finally, when she reached the seventh level of the tower, she saw Liu Yun, also unconscious. A look of joy appeared on Xu Yan's face as she hurriedly fed the antidote into Liu Yun's mouth.

Liu Yun moaned, returning to consciousness, and opened her eyes to see Xu Yan. At first, she was slightly disoriented; then her eyes lit up with joy, "Yan'er? Is it you? You must leave this place, it's not safe!"

Tears welled up involuntarily in Xu Yan's eyes.

What is a sister? This is what it means to be sisters! This is what it means to be best friends!

Her first reaction upon awakening wasn't—hurry and get me out!

Instead, it was—you need to leave!

Xu Yan took a deep breath, took hold of Liu Yun's hand, felt that she had no strength in her body, and then hoisted her onto her back, saying, "I came to rescue you!"

"Have you lost your mind? You can't rescue me, this city is full of that person's subordinates, we can't escape! Hurry up and leave!" Liu Yun urged frantically. She didn't even ask Xu Yan, "Weren't you with Guo Wenchang? How come you are here?"

Because there was no need!

Years of sisterhood had engraved trust deep into their souls.

Xu Yan might have had some flaws, but when it came to her character, she was always trustworthy.

Even though Xu Yan had been taken away by Guo Wenchang, Liu Yun felt not resentment deep inside, but relief. No matter what, Xu Yan had survived. Even if Xu Yan really ended up with Guo Wenchang, Liu Yun wouldn't hate her. Because the one who hurt her was Guo Wenchang—not Xu Yan.

"Don't worry, a powerful being is helping us. Guo Wenchang has gone completely mad, he has lost all humanity," Xu Yan communicated via a telepathic message, then carrying Liu Yun on her back, she summoned a defense dharma instrument, concealed her form in the void, and swiftly rushed back to their previous residence.

She took a remote path, unnoticed by anyone.

The guards here had indeed been negligent. They simply couldn't imagine someone daring to cause trouble right under Lord Luo Jue's watchful eye. On the entire heavenly road… no one dared to do such a thing!

So it had never crossed their minds that Liu Yun could be abducted.

Xu Yan returned to where they had been staying before and, upon seeing Chu Mo, she couldn't help but let out a sigh of relief.

She took Liu Yun down from her back, placed her on a chair, and said to Chu Mo, "Mission accomplished!"

Chu Mo nodded. "You've worked hard." He then walked straight toward Liu Yun.

Wary eyes flashed in Xu Yan. She watched Chu Mo with a hint of distrust.

Chu Mo ignored her and set to work, beginning to lift the binding spells placed on Liu Yun.

Liu Yun looked at the stranger shrouded in light before her, frowning slightly, unsure who this strong being was or why he had intervened to save her.

The person who had placed the binding spells on Liu Yun was a high-rank emperor, and these spells were not easily broken.

Fortunately, Chu Mo possessed many Supreme Arts. It took roughly the time for an incense stick to burn, but finally, he managed to undo all of Liu Yun's binding spells.

Once freed, Liu Yun began by offering her gratitude to Chu Mo, "Thank you, senior, for saving my life!"

Chu Mo waved his hand and said, "We shouldn't linger here. Do you have a dharma instrument that can take you far away?"

Liu Yun nodded, glancing at Chu Mo. "We have such an instrument."

"Good, what to do with him is up to you. I have other things to attend to and must leave now. Remember, don't stay in this city!" With that, Chu Mo's figure flashed, and he disappeared into the void.

"Hey..." Liu Yun started to shout, but Chu Mo had already vanished without a trace. She closed her mouth, clearly disheartened, then her gaze fell on Guo Wenchang, lying there with binding spells all over him. Her eyes first flashed with intense hatred, and then… filled with complex emotions.

She looked at Xu Yan and asked, "What do you think we should do with him?"

"…" Xu Yan was silent for a moment, then spoke slowly, "Kill him, he's no longer our friend. The moment he betrayed you and caused the deaths of Qiangzi and the others, he stopped being our friend."

Liu Yun nodded slowly, then took swift action, killing Guo Wenchang while he was unconscious.

There was nothing to say, nor was there a need to say anything. It was best for him to die this way—for both sides. She didn't involve Xu Yan, not wanting her to be tainted by the bloodshed.

Guo Wenchang died thus in his unconscious state; compared to his crimes, it was too lenient a fate.

Liu Yun and Xu Yan exchanged glances, then nodded at each other, hand in hand they summoned their escape dharma instrument, and in an instant, they were gone.

But one question lingered in Liu Yun's mind, like a fishbone in her throat—who was that man?
