Heaven Slaying Blade

Chapter 1294: Must Not Make Rash Oaths

Upon seeing Caidie, Chu Mo's heart couldn't help but twitch faintly, a sense of ominous premonition washing over him.

Caidie's expression was extremely solemn, her eyes slightly red and swollen, as if she had been crying.

"Master, I'm sorry..."

As soon as Caidie spoke, Chu Mo felt his heart sink. He forced a smile and said, "It's alright, as long as you did your best. I'll take care of the rest myself."

"Ah, no, it's not what you think." Caidie hurriedly explained: "I've found out where the Blood Demon Ancestor is hiding!"

"What?" Chu Mo was shocked and immediately stood up, looking at Fairy Caidie: "What does this mean?"

"It's a long story; would you accompany me for a walk outside?" Fairy Caidie softly asked.

Chu Mo nodded: "Okay."

Then, the two of them once again vanished silently from the tavern.

Atop a tall mountain, Fairy Caidie stood at the summit, the strong wind howling, fluttering her long dress with a whistling sound.

She gazed at the endless mountains in the distance, silent for a long while, before softly saying, "Master has ascended to immortality."

"Hm? Ascended to immortality?" Chu Mo was frozen on the spot, and after a long while, he said softly, "Condolences."

"She passed in silence, leaving only a cocoon, unable to live through a second life." Fairy Caidie's face was sorrowful, her voice choked with emotion: "I thought that even if the second cocooning into a butterfly failed, she wouldn't die..."

"Cultivation is instinctively a cruel matter." Chu Mo sighed lightly: "Just like on the heavenly road, what we hear about are always those successful cases. Like those astonishingly talented young masters, who possess resources and dharma instruments far beyond what ordinary cultivators can dream of. That's why they succeed. But many more people silently perish on that path. Think about it, how many entered the heavenly road in the beginning, and how many came out later... The lucky ones are always a very small number. Otherwise, they wouldn't be called fortunate."

"I know, it's just that it feels so sudden, I can't accept it." Tears silently streamed down Caidie's cheeks.

Chu Mo silently stood to the side; there's limited comfort an outsider can provide in such matters.

Then, Caidie took a deep breath and via a sound-transmission method, shared with Chu Mo a set of cosmic coordinates. She then exhaled a sigh of relief and said, "Before Master's passing, she must have seen something. Then, she left me a jade slip which, aside from her last wishes to me, also contained these cosmic coordinates. Master said that she always knew of Luotian's Destruction Array and what it was used for. But she never thought to interfere. Until before her Dao Conversion, she saw a glimpse of the future world. She said that the Heavenly Realm… is facing a great calamity, and it is full of blood and fire. She doesn't want the Heavenly Realm to become like the Demon Realm, so she left me with this. She told me someone will come looking for it. And then, she also left a message for you."

"Hm? She left a message for me?" Chu Mo was somewhat surprised; he didn't know Fairy Caidie, and the reason he knew of her was because of that assassin from the Nine Heavens Realm. He couldn't understand why Fairy Caidie would leave a message for him.

"Master said, 'You were born a Heavenly Genius, relegated to Yanhuang. On the day of your Dao attainment, ascend to the Nine Heavens.'" Caidie spoke softly: "I don't quite understand the meaning of these words, but it seems to have something to do with Master's identity."

Chu Mo pondered for a moment, then nodded slightly: "It seems your master saw quite a few things before her Dao Conversion."

Caidie glanced at Chu Mo, hesitating to speak.

Chu Mo said: "Is there anything else? Just speak openly. With your Butterfly Clan's help, you've done a great favor for the entire Human Clan. Rest assured, once the turmoil is completely quelled, I will announce to the world and sing praises of the Butterfly Clan's achievements. By then, I presume, there's no more need for Butterfly Valley to remain closed."

An extraordinary light shone in Caidie's eyes; how many intelligent beings would actually prefer to completely seal themselves off?

"My master said… that she wants me to follow you, like Yue Qingcheng did, and become a follower of yours," Caidie said with a slightly blushing face, a bit embarrassed.

A follower, especially of the opposite sex, implied something well-understood amongst most cultivators in the Heavenly Realm. To actively follow someone, undoubtedly meant completely giving oneself to that person.

Chu Mo did not hesitate, for he now had the qualifications to select followers, wholly different from when Yue Qingcheng chose to follow him. He nodded in agreement: "If the Fairy doesn't mind, then naturally, I am very pleased to have such an intelligent follower as the Fairy."

Caidie was smart; she heard an underlying meaning in Chu Mo's words, as if he were explicitly telling her: Rest assured, I value your intelligence, your mind, not your beauty.

But in fact, Caidie really wanted to tell Chu Mo: Even if it's for other reasons, I am willing.

Subsequently, Chu Mo sent Caidie to the City of Heavenly Domain because Yue Qingcheng and the others were mainly within the gardens of the Heavenly Dao, under the protection of Hongyue and Purple Smoke. The Heavenly Dao Garden itself was not so simple; it was a very powerful force. Recently, Hongyue has been gathering the strength of the Heavenly Dao Garden. The City of Heavenly Domain now possessed a considerable combat force, preparing for a possible war at any time.

From some point onwards, the clouds of war had overshadowed the Heavenly Realm and even the entire Cultivation Realm. Everyone began to realize: the war, distanced from them for an epoch, was coming once more.

The large clans were all making various preparations, the medium and small clans felt they had nothing to prep for – either to make alliances or connections. In the end, they are certainly going to join together. But at the moment, no one is taking such steps, because too many issues are involved.

Therefore, the vast majority of the middle and small families in the Heavenly Realm were all observing and probing various kinds of information.

Chu Mo, having emerged from the Illusory Divine Realm, returned to the Qin family once again. Facing the enthusiastic three Qin ancestors with the character 'Lie' in their names as well as some of the Qin family's upper echelon with complex gazes, Chu Mo did not wish to stay any longer.

However, before leaving the Qin family, Chu Mo asked a question: "By the way, where is Qin Shi's father?"

Upon this question being voiced, an awkward silence ensued; no one responded for quite some time.

The three 'Lie' named ancestors truly had no idea, while the others all looked embarrassed, and even a few of them dodged eye contact as if they were hiding guilty consciences.

Chu Mo slightly furrowed his brows. Although this matter wasn't directly related to him, Qin Shi was, after all, someone by his side. He felt it would be unfair to Qin Shi if he just left in such a confused state.

Qin Liexing frowned and looked sternly at the Qin family's patriarch Qin Wenzong, speaking in a heavy tone, "What's going on?"

"Cough..." Qin Wenzong, the patriarch of the Qin family who was also an emperor in the Nine Heavens Realm, spoke in a low voice like a child who had made a mistake: "My thirteenth brother... he has been crippled."

"Hmm?" Qin Liexing's eyebrows immediately raised as he stared coldly at Qin Wenzong, with an icy voice squeezing through his teeth, "Patriarch, he is your own brother!"

Qin Lieshui and Qin Lieyang also had cold expressions on their faces.

Among the three brothers, they valued kinship the most and had a deep-seated concept of familial affection, hence they could not stand the sight of 'fratricidal strife'.

"No, the three esteemed ancestors, you have misunderstood me, it's not what you think," sighed Qin Wenzong, continuing, "During a mission my thirteenth brother undertook last year, he encountered a formidable enemy..."

"Speak clearly!" Qin Liexing, being impatient and extremely intelligent, did not even save face for the patriarch in the presence of Chu Mo and Xu Du, who were outsiders. With a frosty voice and firm attitude, he glared at Qin Wenzong, "Do you think everyone present here is a fool? Speak, who did it!"

"We... haven't found out yet." Qin Wenzong, a grand patriarch of the family and an emperor in the Nine Heavens Realm, now looked like a wronged child, wronged yet not daring to resist.

"Haven't found out?" Qin Liexing's gaze swept across the Qin family elders and then instantly seized several of them, sealing them in place and throwing them to the ground in front of him, he asked coldly, "Did you do it?"

"We've been wronged, ancestor!"

"Ancestor, you've wronged me, it wasn't me who did it!"

"This matter has nothing to do with me, second ancestor."

"Ancestor Liexing, I know nothing about it."

Enraged, Qin Liexing pointed at these people and cursed, "Do you dare swear on your own primordial spirit that this matter has nothing to do with you? If it has, may your primordial spirit immediately shatter on the spot. Do you dare?"

Three of them fell silent on the spot, their eyes shifty as they bowed their heads, no longer speaking.

Yet, an elder in his fifties, a current elder of the Qin family, still loudly said, "Ancestor Liexing, I truly know nothing."

"You, do you dare to swear?" Qin Liexing asked coldly.

"I dare, I dare... I swear, if I had a hand in harming Qin Yu Zong, let my primordial spirit explode and perish!" the elder said with a resolute and loud voice.

The oath of a cultivator is a grave matter. Generally, no one dares to swear lightly, especially those oaths that are contrary to one's wishes; they are even more afraid to utter them casually. However, this elder seemed not to understand the gravity, daring to make such a deadly vow.

Just when everyone was beginning to believe that this matter truly had nothing to do with him, that he had been wronged, a miserable scream was heard coming from the elder's throat.

Then... there was a loud bang!

The elder's head exploded instantly!

His primordial spirit shattered into countless fragments!

In a hurry, Chu Mo and the three 'Lie' named ancestors swiftly took action, sealing the explosive power of the elder's primordial spirit explosion within a certain range. Otherwise, with that one blow, half of the Qin family's upper echelon present would've died.

Everyone was somewhat shocked, unable to recover their senses for a long time.

At that moment, Xu Du softly chanted a Buddhist mantra, "Amitabha, one must not carelessly make oaths."
