Heaven Slaying Blade

Chapter 1908: The Law of the Jungle World

Chu Mo looked at the blood entity and said indifferently, "Stop beating around the bush. You've been here for the immeasurable ages of time. Perhaps, you stand at the source of the river of time, while I am at its downstream. Whatever it is, just say it directly. You and I are not from the same era."

"I am not human," the blood entity began, "I am merely... a spirit born from the blood of the gods."

"Not human? Blood of the gods?" Chu Mo furrowed his brow as he regarded the blood entity with a strong sense of distrust in his eyes.

"Yes, the blood of the gods," the blood entity sighed softly. "This was originally a magnificent and splendid great world. But later, it shattered. The reason for its shattering is simple. It was attacked by beings from the divine realm, and then, the world gradually lost all its vitality. Later, all the gods gathered all the resources of the great world to create a completely new world. They sent some souls from this world into that new world, and it was through this temple that the task was accomplished."

The amount of information contained in the blood entity's words was immense. Chu Mo listened carefully and did not attempt to interrupt because now was not the time for him to ask questions.

"However, the gods were all very pessimistic. They knew that even if they created a brand-new world, it would inevitably still be attacked by beings from the divine realm. Therefore, the gods left their blood in this temple, making this place the root of the Human Clan. This blood pool is where all human lives originate and also where they end."

The blood entity continued, "The so-called origin place can create incredibly powerful humans. Those who emerge from the blood pool can ultimately grow into a true giant of the ages—a new god. However, since the blood is finite, only one god can appear in each era's span. And you are the sole god of this era's span."

Chu Mo remained silent, saying nothing.

The blood entity continued, "The so-called end place refers to the fact that after all Human Clan beings die, they will return here. They are a part of this blood pool, and it is precisely the perpetual renewal of the Human Clan that allows this blood pool to continue to exist. In other words, even if your world is once again breached by the divine realm and all beings are annihilated, the Human Clan will never be extinct. They will always appear in another new world, continuing to thrive and grow."

At this point, Chu Mo finally spoke, "Two questions. First, isn't the place where the gods are the divine realm? Are the beings you refer to from the divine realm not the gods, but other beings? Second, you said that after all humans die, they return here? That doesn't seem quite right, doesn't their death lead to reincarnation?"

The blood entity said, "The gods refer to the gods among the Human Clan. However, the divine realm is not the Human Clan's divine realm."

Chu Mo frowned.

The blood entity explained, "The dimension of the divine realm is higher than that of the Human Clan's world. That dimension is unstable and, to continue existing indefinitely, it must constantly draw energy from lower-dimensional worlds. The energy source is all the living beings in the world, and human energy is especially precious. Now, do you understand?"

Chu Mo was taken aback completely. The divine realm... turns out to be a high-dimensional world? Are the so-called rune beings actually the divine beings of that realm? Is that so? Infinite questions arose in Chu Mo's heart.

The blood entity continued, "As for the reincarnation you mentioned, it is true that the Human Clan enters the cycle of reincarnation upon death, but part of their energy returns to this blood pool. That energy is the sum of their life accumulation. However, since the Six Paths of Reincarnation are closed, the blood pool has not received good energy injections for many years. If this continues, the entire blood pool will eventually run dry."

The Six Paths of Reincarnation!

Finally, the topic turned to the Six Paths of Reincarnation!

Chu Mo looked at the blood entity and asked in a deep voice, "Who closed the Six Paths of Reincarnation in the past?"

"It was an ancient god," the blood entity replied.

"Ancient god? Not an ancient prime god?" Chu Mo looked at the blood entity, noting the difference in its words.

"Yes, ancient is older than the ancient prime era. The truly oldest era is called ancient times, and after that, ancient prime. It was a true god from the ancient prime era. Unfortunately, he closed the Six Paths of Reincarnation and suffered a backlash. His primordial spirit scattered into Heaven and Earth, and now, in this world, only scattered, unformed fragments of it might be found. However, even that depends on luck," the blood entity said.

"So, how can the Six Paths of Reincarnation be reopened?" Chu Mo asked.

The blood entity replied, "The Six Paths of Reincarnation cannot be reopened. If it were reopened, your world would soon collapse and become like this place—devoid of life and full of decay."

It seemed the blood entity indeed knew many secrets.

Chu Mo, however, smiled wryly, "The rune beings in our world should have already found a way to reopen the Six Paths of Reincarnation. So, this matter has become irreversible. I came here to know how to stop this from happening, to find a way to preserve that world."

The blood entity listened and fell silent for a long time, finally sighing, "This is beyond my ability. I am formed of the blood of the gods, and on this matter, you can only perhaps find the primordial spirit of that ancient god to know more. However, I can tell you some other things."

"Can you tell me why you attacked me earlier?" Chu Mo did not ask other questions but directly inquired about this.

"Out of jealousy," the blood entity admitted honestly.

"Jealousy?" Chu Mo furrowed his brow slightly.

"Yes, you're also a drop of blood in this blood pool, yet you became a god. And I, although holding the blood of the gods, can only be imprisoned here forever," the blood entity said with some dejection, "I will always be a servant, here to impart the teachings and resolve doubts for you all."

"Is that the only reason?" Chu Mo looked at the blood entity, sighing softly, "Living in this world is not easy for anyone."

The blood entity nodded, "You're right. Living in this world indeed isn't easy. Moreover, I actually know very well that even if I mastered the arts of the gods, I still wouldn't be their match."

As the blood entity spoke, it looked towards Chu Mo, "You should leave, go find the primordial spirit of the ancient god. It's difficult to find, but it should be in this shattered void. Maybe you can still find it."

Chu Mo said, "Weren't you going to tell me something else?"

"Some things have long been buried in the river of time, not worth mentioning," said the blood entity formed by the condensation of the gods' blood, seemingly losing interest in continuing. His figure slowly dissipated, then directly melted into the blood pool.

Ultimately, the entire temple fell into silence.

He spoke neither of the past nor shared much with Chu Mo.

In the end, Chu Mo shook his head and left.

Because what he wants to know most now is how those Heavenly People in the great sect intend to reopen the Six Paths of Reincarnation and how he can stop this incident.

Chu Mo left the temple and walked through the cold and desolate remains of the universe. The entire universe was populated only by his solitary figure; there was not a single breath of life besides his own.

This kind of place does not easily enhance one's mood. Even though Chu Mo had witnessed countless separations and reunions and seen too much joy and sorrow, at this moment, he could not help but feel a tinge of melancholy.

This broken and decaying universe, with its aura of offal, once resembled the brilliant and splendid worlds like the Five Great Heavens.

And yet, it has ultimately become nothingness in the river of time.

All things that were beautiful have vanished.

Though it was unclear why the blood entity suddenly lost interest in talking to Chu Mo, it still revealed quite a bit earlier.

For instance, high-dimensional worlds are not stable, and they are called divine realms. Every so often, they need to extract energy from lower-dimensional worlds to sustain the operation of the high-dimensional realm.

Though Chu Mo did not know what a beautiful place the high-dimensional world might be, he felt a profound aversion to this mode of operation, even feeling deeply helpless.

This feels much like how beings must eat and drink to survive. Eating and drinking... those consumed are living beings too, but is this wrong?

If it's done for survival, then it's not wrong.

But if not for survival?

For instance, some people fancy wearing fur made from beautiful animal pelts, thinking it makes them look more attractive. Is this right or wrong?

Many issues, Chu Mo had never seriously pondered before.

But, thinking back now, the true essence of this world is far from being a matter of fairness. It's merely survival of the fittest. The vast great world, too, operates under the most basic law of the jungle.

Perhaps to the beings in the high-dimensional world—those in the divine realm—they see no fault in what they're doing.

They need to survive in that world; they need beauty, so they can only target lower worlds.

Chu Mo finally understood why higher-ranking Heavenly People showed more apparent contempt for the Human Clan. It wasn't just due to their own inferiority, nor their distinctness as a new race; fundamentally, it stemmed from the fact that most Heavenly People had emotions derived from the rune beings!

Rune beings originated from the divine realm. In their eyes, humans and other living beings are inferior, dirty, filthy... not truly sentient beings. Hence, from deep within, they harbor contempt for the Human Clan.

As for those Humans living in the high-dimensional world, perhaps, they never saw themselves as part of the Human Clan in their own hearts.

Because, to them, they are gods.
