Goblin Teeth: A Monster Party LitRPG

100 - Multiple: Monsters Vs. Heroes.

Klaw purchased his new skill, whatever it was. Anath had evolved. Elyndris's spells were now ready. She looked at them. Three spells. Two to kill. And One for an emergency. She was working on a fourth that would be cast soon.

Her capabilities in a fight of this caliber were limited. But, this was simply a challenge for her to overcome. A stepping stone on her rise to true power. As soon as she was able to get the altar's boon…

"Is everyone ready?" Klaw asked.

"Yup!" Anath said. Elyndris was still unconvinced about Anath's… acceptance? She seems to be trying too hard. Rather than casting aside the fear of her spider, Elyndris suspected she would instead put on a different mask. At least she was a bit stronger now.

"I am ready for the coming battle. The spell is imminent."

Klaw picked her up. "They still out there?"

Her thaumic sense wasn't very precise beyond walls, so she only got vague impressions. That combined with the lingering tremor sense, she could see there were ten of them. Oswine was not a member of the group, she would be able to tell from the way they moved. They still circled the barrow, waiting patiently. It was almost creepy.

Fury essence simmered in the group, as did some other strange magic. Apparently, they had learned of the human Zuss killed.

"Brace yourself, bugbear. I am going to open the way."

He did, gripping the ground with his claws and pointing her like a wand. Elyndris focused on the last of her spell. Two force engines funneled into the beam shape. No focus, just raw power. The last connection of her spell fell into place, and she allowed mana to flood into it.

Mana settled into significant places like water settling into a lake. Here, death essence was thick. It fueled her spell, unleashing a black bar of force and death. It slammed into the collapsed tunnel, pushing back against Elyndris and Klaw. The influence of death wore away at the dirt and stone, weakening them and allowing the force to propel the dirt like a bomb.

The way was clear.

Klaw then performed part two of their plan. He activated his burst of strength and threw her just as Elyndris activated her own skill and pounced.

She cackled as she burst from the hole with the speed of a crossbow bolt. A single flap of her wings and activating pounce gave her control and even greater speed. She didn't have time to pick an ideal target, she just went for the nearest.

The human didn't even register what was happening when Elyndris turned herself tail first and struck his head. Then, with perfect timing, she pounced off the man's skull. Her force-distributing flesh saved Elyndris from the bulk of the damage. The human wasn't so lucky. His head snapped backward far further than should be possible, dying instantly. His body tumbled away an instant later and Elyndris bounced high into the sky.

Sensing downward, the humans did indeed have weapons ready. It was indeed an ambush. More shockingly, however, were their tattoos and eyes. They glowed blue. Blue mist drifted from the human's glowing eyes.

Whatever, they would die the same.

Dimly, she was aware of Klaw and Anath sprinting from the barrow, but she wasn't done yet.

Hunter: <Are you stuck in a tree? Yell.>

The message caught her off guard. She was in the status void as she tended to be. She ignored it.

The humans were… broken. One's arm was a mangled mess, and another was leaning on a branch. Other humans had similar wounds, yet they were still ready to fight. It would have been inspiring if they weren't her current prey. Leofric and Lisa were the only dangerous enemies, and they each seemed okay. The rest were the low-level scouts. Anath and Klaw each attacked with the fervor that only true monsters had.

"Burn MORTALS!" She unleashed the first of her two attack spells. Force and focused energy funneled into a beam. Her target was two humans that were closer together. A near-solid beam of energy slammed into one, burning and breaking the body further. She moved the beam towards the other, and then a gust of wind pushed her to the side. She missed the second human.

Zuss: <I found the tree. But, there is no way into it.>

Another aggravating message. She read it quickly and-

Something ripped through her wing, causing her to spin. Pain shredded through her tiny body as she screamed, then plummeted. As she fell, she sensed Leofric nocking another arrow and lining up a shot. She turned the best she could in her descent, one wing flapping uselessly in the air. She couldn't control her fall. She was going to be struck down by a mere human.

But, as the arrow released, the air shimmered. Klaw then materialized out of thin air. His arms were crossed in defense and he was dripping in blood. The arrow struck him in the forearms, then shattered as it hit reinforced bone.

"I got you, worm," Klaw growled, then he sprinted towards Leofric. So, that was his new skill. Why didn't he do that for the first arrow? No matter, she had revenge to focus on.

Elyndris unleashed her second spell, the same as the first. Leofric was too focused on the oncoming bugbear. Her spell slipped between Klaw's legs and hit him directly in the chest. He didn't react the way the other humans did. Some skill was activated, creating a shimmering crystal shield in front of him. It was a simple, circular shape that blocked the damage. The spell bore into the shield, causing small glowing cracks to appear. Just as the shield shattered like glass, the spell ended.

Elyndris tsked. Skills were cheating. She checked on Anath to find she was dueling Lisa. But, three more scouts rushed her, looking to cut her down while she couldn't move as well. They were the last of the scouts that were mobile, it seemed. One of them had a sickening burn mark where Elyndris's spell failed to kill him.

Daggat: <Hold on, there is some magic stuff going on. I think… I might be in the presence of a demon.>

She had enough of this.

THE MIGHTIEST LARVA: <WOULD YOU TAKE IT TO ANOTHER CHAT? We are trying to focus on this fight.>

She put a mental finger on the trigger of her last spell as they came upon her. Each had blades drawn and were closing off any routes of escape.

"Come! If you dare!" She called, then laughed maniacally. The humans didn't hesitate as they came within striking range. Each stabbing at her. They moved at faster speeds than normal. Some sort of enhancement. No matter, they were still too slow.

Elyndris activated her last spell. Three force engines with no shape. Raw force bloomed from above her. An explosion as pure as an explosion could be. No sound other than the rush of air and the screaming of humans as they were rocketed away. Elyndris felt herself being pushed flat into the ground. Her body felt as though it would tear apart, but it only lasted a single moment. Her body recovered with enough force to launch her into the air once again.

The world fuzzed and dimmed. Her good wing was now broken and she had tears in her body that leaked blood. Alive, but wounded. Still strong enough to fight, however.

She flopped into the grass somewhere in a daze. A moment's rest wouldn't hurt.

Surprise was key. The humans were prepared for them, but surely they wouldn't expect an explosive attack.

Klaw held Elyndris steady as her spell blasted a hole through the collapsed tunnel. Then, he threw her with the same technique they used to defeat the demon. He felt the sting of Elyndris's pounce at the perfect moment, multiplying the force of his throw.

"Let's fuck them up!" Klaw yelled and sprinted forward. He had no notifications of dishonorable conduct, which meant the humans were indeed out to kill them. How the system knew that he had no idea.

Breaking through, he took in the situation. Elyndris was already killing, she was fast. Six scouts, Leofric, and Lisa. Leofric was in the back with his bow ready, but not drawn. Several humans were with him. Five others, including Lisa, were closer. These looked as though they had broken arms or hands that made it impossible for them to use bows.

Their glowing tattoos and eyes intrigued Klaw, but not long enough for him to think about it.

With a roar of glee, he clashed with the first scout. It was fast, faster than Klaw. The human sliced at him with a simple short blade. He cut into the flesh of his palm as he caught it. Flesh was flesh, it could heal. He pulled the man closer to him and slammed a palm into his chest.

In the privacy of his head, Klaw had called this move the Ripping Strike. Where he would strike, stab, and rip out chunks of his enemy in one movement. With this use, he removed a rib from the human and then used it to silence the screaming human.

There was nothing more satisfying than a sufficiently brutal kill.

The nearest scout stumbled back from the display.

"Oh, what's the matter? You're not having second thoughts about the ambush, are you?" Klaw said to the man. Light from an energy blast illuminated the look of fright on his face.

"The mistress wishes you gone. I cannot disobey." The man stammered. Then, he dashed forward. This one did not have a blade. Rather, green translucent gauntlets formed over his fists. One of his arms was purple and swollen, broken, yet he still held it up.

"Well, you will die well. I can promise that."

Laughter caught his attention. Lisa raged and a translucent four-armed bear overlayed her form. What was that? Lisa and Klaw met eyes for a moment. She nodded towards Anath, who was fighting other scouts. Klaw shrugged, then nodded. Like a dog given permission to run, she beamed and charged Anath.

Klaw could have moved to intercept, ignoring the scout near him. But, he wouldn't deny Anath a bit of fun.

The entire interaction lasted just a moment, but it was enough of a distraction. The scout's gauntleted fist slammed into Klaw's cheek. His head rattled and his whole body snapped to the side.

"Ah, fuck. Good hit." Klaw said, then spat out several teeth. The human didn't relent.

This time, Klaw was ready. The two fought back and forth. Each dodging and deflecting each other's attacks. It was clear the human was much more skilled than he. He fought with precision and technique. But, Klaw was stronger. Every time the warrior deflected one of Klaw's attacks, he was pushed back.

The fight was halted momentarily as a gust of wind staggered them both. Klaw noticed an arrow spinning off course, missing his head by a foot. Leofric had fired at him and that wind knocked the arrow out of the way. Klaw turned his attention back to the brawler as Leofric raised his bow to aim upwards.

Neither could afford this fight to last long. Klaw because there were other enemies. The warrior because Klaw would win eventually. So, Klaw pumped his heart as hard as he dared. His exhaustion was temporarily erased from the flood of adrenaline that empowered him. When the warrior jabbed at him with a gauntlet, Klaw took the hit to open the warrior to an attack. Klaw grunted as the enemy's fist slammed into his gut. But, he struck quickly with Ripping Strike. He grabbed the man's arm, then ripped a chunk of the man's bicep out.

The human screamed in pain for a moment before Klaw tore out his throat.

Then his new skill activated. The sensation was like an oncoming dread, one he could ignore if he decided to. Paladin seemed to be mostly focused on defending and bolstering allies and taking the heat from big monsters. There weren't many offensive options. However, one skill stood out to him more than the others. Aura of Protection. Not only did it give him the ability to control his auras, but those within his aura would be shielded from death three times per day.

This took the form of teleporting Klaw into the path of the oncoming attack. Leofric had fired an arrow at Elyndris. Somehow, the system sensed it would be a killing blow. He had enough time to take a defensive stance before his skill put him into oncoming danger.

The arrow stabbed into a forearm, then shattered after making contact with his bone. He could feel that the force chipped his bone. That was just pain, it wouldn't harm the function of the arm. That was the important part. Function and usability. The pain was something to fight alongside, not to fear.

"I got you, worm."

Now it was time for the big guy. Klaw sprinted towards him, ready to take at least one more arrow before arriving. Instead, he almost shit himself when the blast of energy came from between his legs. He had to run awkwardly for a few steps to avoid losing anything important. But, the spell distracted Leofric enough to let Klaw get in close.

The chief was an archer, that much was clear. Whatever that shield was was spent. Klaw should have the upper hand.

"Why, the fuck, did you think," Klaw slashed at him, but Leofric avoided most of the attack. Three claw marks welled up with blood on his face, "betraying us would be a good idea?"

"One of yours killed one of mine and the mistress wants you dead. Besides, you're just experience." Leofric tried to make the distance between them with a swing of his bow, using it as a staff. Klaw tanked the hit and went for a Ripping Strike. It was a glancing blow, which lacked the momentum to properly rip flesh. That was the downside to the technique. If you didn't hit squarely, then it was practically useless.

"Come on, you too? Mortals have experience too, idiot."

Leofric activated some skill. Wind seemed to suck towards him. He had seen this skill before way back in the goblin camp. Warriors Spirit. In the blink of an eye, Leofric drew two swords and slashed at him. Klaw was forced to leap back, jumping back further than he expected. He needed to practice this level of strength more.

"When a soul is measured, the lowest are reincarnated as monsters. We tolerate you but make no mistake. You are still the lowest of the low."

Power seemed to radiate from the human. Klaw might be in a bit of trouble. He was still stronger, but Leofric was more experienced. He had tricks Klaw didn't know about and he was faster. Klaw had to take a risk. He pumped his heart harder and faster. Funneling blood away from anything not used in the fight. There was a limit, and he was nearing it. But, the effect was invigorating.

"Yeah, we're monsters. But at least we are honest about it." Klaw and Leofric dashed forward. With one hand, Klaw slashed at him with a Wind Slash. Leofric blocked it with his swords.

"YOU though? You want a guy dead or gone, but then you get pissed when he's killed. You try to ambush us, the folk trying to SAVE YOUR TOWN." He threw another wind slash. It slowed Leofric, allowing Klaw to circle him, continuously throwing Wind Slashes.

"We didn't ask for your help," Leofric said as he continued to block the attacks.

"Yeah. You didn't have to. YOU'RE WELCOME." Klaw slashed with two Wind Slashes. This time, Leofric leaped over them, closing the distance.

"Stupid bugbear. I don't want to kill you. It's what the mistress wants."

Leofric and Klaw exchanged slashes. Sparks flew from the contact of blade against claw. For several seconds, neither covered any ground. But, Leofric's training was showing its benefits. He would get the occasional cut in but was able to avoid most of Klaw's attacks.

Klaw growled. He had trained as hard as he could, but Leofric had decades on him. His skill outclassed him. Complete orcshit. Klaw was out of tricks and tactics. So, what was the solution? What did he have that Leofric didn't?

He was a monster. He was willing to go primal. That was about it. He could let the animal take over.

Tossing all thoughts of defense and survival aside, Klaw just let loose. Ripping and tearing with abandon. He could smell the human blood and relished the feeling of slicing flesh. Leofric landed blow after blow, drawing blood for only an instant before Klaw cut off the bleeding. As he ravaged and cut, Klaw could feel his hair thickening. His claws lengthened and his teeth became sharper. The effects of his beast core were finally manifesting.

His attacks became stronger and faster. A threshold was surpassed, and his blows doubled in strength.

Leofric couldn't keep up with the wild, unpredictable strikes. His sword cut into Klaw's shoulder and became stuck in the thick fur and muscle. Without any fanfare, Klaw slammed a palm against his stomach. The force rippled through Leofrics body, and he coughed blood. Klaws hours and hours of training kicked in, and he used Ripping Strike.

Leofric made a gasping sound as Klaw pulled out entrails and guts, and then Klaw slashed open his throat.

The narrative has been taken without permission. Report any sightings.

[You have slain Warrior, level 15. You have gained experience.]

What was that? Did the beast core make him stronger? He checked his stats, then nearly sputtered in surprise. His strength was 30. His constitution also improved, it was 17.

The belt. It gave him more power. Twenty-one base, plus five from his burst of strength, and then four more from magic item. Why?

"LEOFRIC!" Someone screamed. Lisa. Klaw snapped out of his status void to see Anath lying at her feet, wounded. Lisa started to walk towards Klaw with fury in her eyes. That was a fight he couldn't take. Then Anath said something. She turned back to Anath with rage in her eyes and slammed down at Anath with her bear-like form.

He felt his new skill activating and was ready to take the hit if he could. But, before he teleported, the feeling… faded.

"FUCK!" He hissed. Was it too late? He took two steps, then lethargy hit him like a charging boar. His wounds caught up to him, and he was forced to loosen his grip on his own heart, feeling it beat arithmetically. That couldn't be good. He landed on one knee, taking deep breaths. "You better not be dead yet," Klaw grumbled.

Anath was ready! Well, she was nervous… but ready. She pretended to be ready, anyway. No one had any extra swords. So, Anath wrapped a few of the black bones with web to form handles. Touching them with her bare hands was a bad idea.

She stretched. Swung the clubs and her magic sword experimentally. The butterflies wouldn't stop fluttering. She put that thought out of her mind as Elyndris blasted the cave open.

"Let's fuck them up!" Klaw yelled and charged. Anath ran after him.

Anath didn't hesitate to charge. She had learned that hesitation was a death sentence. She noted Lisa was among the warriors at the front, but for some reason, she hesitated to rush forward. Klaw slew one almost immediately and moved on.

Two humans approached Anath. One's arm was a mess and had a hatchet, and the other held two daggers in a reverse grip.

"She's… just a kid." One of them said.

"Doesn't matter. Gotta end her. Sorry, kid."

"You could… not?" Anath suggested.

"Sorry, mistress wants you dead." The man with the hatchet said as he brought it down on her. It was clear they had underestimated her because the blow was easy to block with her spider legs.

The other was quick, dashing around her to flank. Keeping an eye or three on the flanking enemy, Anath retaliated against the hatchet wielder. She swung each weapon one or two at a time, which the human was easily able to avoid or block.

Movement drew her attention to the man flanking her, and she pushed him away with a swing of her legs. That drew her attention away from the man in front of her, who came at her with another surprisingly powerful swing. She was forced to block with a black bone, which shattered. Bits of bone rained down on her, stinging and blackening her skin where it hit.

She whined in frustration. She had eight arms to attack with. EIGHT. But, she couldn't focus on them all at once. Just using them all was like juggling. Suddenly she felt like she was punched from behind. The man tried to backstab her but hit her in her exoskeleton.

Anath ground her teeth and screamed, entering her rage. At the same time, Elyndris's first spell illuminated the battlefield.

The hatchet wielder didn't stand a chance. She came at him with full abandonment, slicing, bludgeoning, and stabbing at him. When she was focused on one target, it was easier to manipulate her limbs, it seemed. The first strike increased her strength to twenty, which gave her second strike the strength to cave in his skull.

She was too enraged to consider the death of a human. Instead, she turned to face the dagger wielder.

He was gone. Disappeared like Zuss. Just… like Zuss. Anath quickly found the blob of darkened shadows. Foolish human thought he could hide.

Anath dropped low and skittered forward like a spider. The unusual movement startled the man, who stumbled back before tossing a knife at Anath. She dodged it easily, then jumped on him like a jumping spider.

The human died screaming.

"Ten verse eight. How is that fair?" Lisa called at her. She had raged and was rushing her. Lisa did indeed have eight limbs, compared to Anath's ten. Though, six of them were Otto's. Her eyes were glowing, just like the rest of the humans. It was a deeper shade of blue than the bear outline.

Anath snapped towards Lisa, who was rushing towards her. Something else caught her eye. Leofric was drawing his bow, aiming at Klaw.

She slashed with her enchanted sword, causing a gust of wind to push across the battlefield. The arrow missed, thankfully, and Lisa was pushed back.

Lisa laughed and grinned at Anath with a wild look in her eyes.

Anath hissed at her, and then the two berserkers engaged.

Lisa's first punch was met with a cage of spider legs. The force hit once, then twice as the spiritual bear claw struck her as well. Anath screamed in pain as something snapped and she flew back. She skittered on the ground, only for three of her spider legs to dig into the earth to stop her.

One of her legs had snapped and the end was dangling uselessly. Directly taking the blow wasn't ideal. Lisa's strength was frightening, but Anath felt that she was faster. Lighter and more lithe.

Anath charged, using this line of thinking. This exchange went better for her. Anath skittered and crawled around Lisa, dodging fist and bear claws. Lisa spun, keeping her in sight. Anath struck with the sword and bones. Each blow was met with a block. It was like her limbs were made of iron every time she struck.

Every strike released an audible boom, as two powerful warriors met each other blow for blow. The bone weapons rotted Lisa's flesh as they hit but shattered after the second hit.

"Is that all you've got?" Laughed Lisa.

Then she slammed down with spectral bear claws. Anath rolled out of the way, but it was a feint, her real arms, enhanced with Otto's, beat her into the ground.

All the breath left her lungs and she felt her exoskeleton crack. She lay sprawled on the ground, gasping for air.

Then, something caught Lisa's attention. "LEOFRIC!" she screamed.

That gave Anath a moment to think. Enraged as she was, she desperately thought of different angles of attack. Her weapons were breaking, except her sword. Even her spider arms couldn't withstand her power.

Otto's strength seemed to be added to her own. What's worse, Anath helped her hunt him.

But, how did that work, exactly? She gained the power of a monster she killed. But, she killed goblins earlier. Lisa was sure she was going to kill Otto. Maybe it was a choice when you killed something.

An idea bloomed somewhere deep in Anath's subconscious. She scrambled at her pouches and found what she was looking for. Lisa started walking towards Klaw menacingly. Anath dropped a tooth into the potion and hid the bottle behind her back.

"Yeah, bitch. Run away, like the coward you are." Anath coughed out.

Lisa turned towards her. "Coward? Me? You're done, don't push it."

"No wonder you don't have any friends. They'd be disgusted. Walking away in a fight! COWARD!" Anath's rage pushed her to yell more insults at the woman.

"You know, I thought we could have been tight. We could have hunted together. But you're too weak. Just like everyone else." Lisa moved towards her. "I'm going to enjoy those arms of yours."

Lisa brought her fists down like a bear at the same moment Anath brought forth the jar. The gremlin's head had popped out of the top.

Otto blinked out of existence the same moment Lisa smashed the gremlin into dust. Broken glass bounced harmlessly off Anath's exoskeleton and Lisa's balance was thrown off. Anath was relatively unhurt.

"What?" Lisa blinked. At her feet was a tiny, spectral gremlin. "WHAT?!"

She was distracted. Open for an attack. Anath used her three good spider legs to launch her upwards and she sliced with the sword with an underhand slash. Lisa moved to block at the last second. The strength difference was now in Anath's favor, and Lisa was staggered back. Anath dashed forward with a quick jump and brought the blade down.

Lisa tried to dodge but overestimated her strength again. The blade sliced her arm off cleanly. With it, came her tattoo.

Immediately, her eyes stopped glowing. She blinked and looked around, confused. "Huh… WAIT!"

But, Anath was too far gone. She let loose with her spider legs, stabbing now again and again. Piercing chest, stomach, and throat.

[You have slain Gestalt, level 13. You have gained experience.]

Anath fell to the ground, on her knees, heaving. She felt her rage end. Then, she started to laugh. She WON. She killed her.

Oh… she killed her. Anath stared down at the corpse that was Lisa. What was that at the end? Anath felt her blood run cold, and she pulled her legs into her chest.

Taking stock of the battlefield, it seemed like all the humans were either wounded beyond a fighting state or dead. What a mess.

For several minutes, everyone alive just breathed and recovered.

"You two alive?" Klaw yelled out with a slight slur to his voice.

"I am," Anath said.

"Me too." Called Elyndris from a bush somewhere.

Anath let out a relieving breath. They all survived.

"Ya hurt?" Asked Klaw.

"Yes," intoned both Anath and Elyndris.

"Me too."

They fell into silence again, each winding down from the fight in their own way. Anath just sat there, letting her body recover. She tapped her broken leg and winced. It was still attached, so maybe it could be healed?

"Holly shit! What… WHAT HAPPENED HERE?" someone called out. Anath snapped her spider legs towards its direction.

"Daggat? What? How?"

"You killed them ALL. Even Leofric? Holy fuck guys. I was gone like… a day." Daggat said, but there was a tinge of pride in his voice.

"Yup," Klaw said.

Daggat looked at them all incredulously. "Well. Get to eating. You all deserve it."
