It's clear, the Alpha was far stronger than the Ogre Chief they had faced weeks ago.
Its sheer presence alone warped the air around it, like a storm compressed into a living shape. Each step it took made the ground shudder, its claws cutting through the magical roots that tried to bind it.
'What a powerful magical resistance!'
Despite Essel's rooting spell, the golden vines barely lasted a second before snapping apart with a deafening crack. The shimmering threads of magic disintegrated in a burst of light, scattering dust and leaves into the air.
Essel bit her lip, already channeling another spell.
Her fingers glowed with faint runes as she changed her stance, eyes darting across the terrain for better positioning."Be careful! It has high control resistance!" she shouted, her voice tight with urgency.
Alyssa stepped forward without hesitation.
She raised her arm and summoned a massive kite shield from her storage ring, its surface engraved with radiant runes. The shield gleamed under the moonlight as she braced for impact.
GROAAR!
The Alpha's claws descended like falling axes.
A thunderous clang rang through the forest as steel met flesh. The shockwave rattled branches and kicked up a wave of dust. Alyssa's boots dug deep into the soil as she slid several feet back, gritting her teeth.
"What a powerful bastard," she muttered, feeling her arms go numb from the impact. The strength behind that single strike was inhuman.
Before the Alpha could follow up, Alyssa unleashed her class's control spell:
[Shield Roar!]
Her shield pulsed with golden light and unleashed a stunning shockwave that rippled outward. The air cracked and forced the beast to stumble, interrupting the mana forming in its claws.
Taking advantage of the moment, she slashed her sword through the air, releasing a blade of energy that streaked forward like a comet. It struck the Alpha's torso, carving through its thick hide. But when the dust cleared, it had only drawn shallow wounds. Its skin shimmered with a dull metallic glow—proof of its unnatural defense.
Even so, it was impressive. The beast wasn't as ferocious as the one the elves had faced at Runewood by Auren, but it was still durable enough to withstand their combined onslaught.
"You're doing great, captain," Herbon called out from behind Alyssa's guard. He ducked low, lifting his bazooka onto his shoulder."Let's soften that face of yours once more!" he grinned.
ZZZT–KABOOOM!
The shot hit the Alpha square on the snout, making its head snap back as a plume of fire erupted from the explosion. The blast echoed across the river, scattering birds and shaking the canopy above. Auren didn't stop there. He reloaded instantly and fired again.
"Don't forget to praise me too!" Blas shouted from above, his tone half serious, half joking.
Perched high on a branch, the archer drew his bow with impossible speed.
A flurry of arrows shot forth, each one glowing faintly with wind energy. They tore through the air, bursting into small cyclones the moment they hit the Alpha's body. Bits of black fur and blood sprayed into the wind as the beast howled in rage with each arrow landing on it's body.
Their combined attacks made the forest flicker with color—orange from explosions, green from Essel's spells, blue from Blas's wind magic. Thunderous sounds rolled across the valley, and waves rippled along the riverbank like the forest itself was trembling.
GROOOAAR!
The Alpha's roar pierced the air, shaking leaves from the trees. It sounded less like anger and more like desperation. Its chest heaved as it called for help, sending a chilling echo through the night. It tried biting and clawing the humans but they were too coordinated for him to catch!
But as long as the rest of its pack can catch up, soon, the tables will turn on his side. The Alpha knew this so it decided to focus on defence this time.
Auren's gaze flicked to the sides. Through the mist, he could see glowing eyes reflecting in the water. Shadows moved across the river, fast and low. The rest of the pack was coming.
Night Stalkers—dozens of them.
"We need to hurry!" he barked. His tone hardened as he saw more shapes emerging from the fog. "They're crossing the river! Finish this or we'll be surrounded!"
Alyssa frowned, realizing what he meant. The Alpha was buying time.
"Then we end this now!" she shouted, her voice fierce.
"Everyone! Unleash your ultimates!"
Her sword and shield vanished into her storage ring, replaced by a massive greatsword shimmering silver under the moon.
Runes danced along its blade, pulsing in rhythm with her heartbeat. She held it over her shoulder, her stance steady and fearless.
Blas's eyes lit up with excitement.
"Don't mind me if I do!" He pulled out a unique arrow made of magical steel, its body etched with glowing symbols.
As he drew his bow, the arrow began to hum. Mana poured into it, each second making the air vibrate.
"Give me five seconds!" he yelled, sweat trickling down his temple.
Essel, now floating slightly above the ground, closed her eyes and spread her arms. Her voice softened as she chanted,
[HOLY WIND]
A gentle radiance enveloped the team. The spell washed over them like a soothing breeze, boosting their mana recovery and amplifying their strength. Their bodies felt lighter, their focus sharper. Even their hearts seemed to beat in unison.
At the same time, it send a blast of golden wind that covered the beast's fur, slowly sizzling it's fur as it works its way by reducing it's magical and physical resistance!
"This should be enough," Essel whispered.
Auren nodded and quickly took action. He pulled three black bottles from his ring, each labeled with a white cloud mark. Without hesitation, he hurled them toward the Alpha's face.
The bottles exploded midair, releasing a dense black mist that spread rapidly.
The smoke shimmered faintly, carrying a strange metallic scent that made the Alpha thrash and growl in confusion. Its hearing and sense of smell were dulled in an instant.
The creature staggered, blind and furious.
Auren smirked. "That'll buy us five seconds."
And that was all they needed.
Blas's arrow finally reached full charge. He exhaled slowly, his pupils glowing white as he whispered his skill name:
[BOLT OF OBLIVION]
He released the string. The arrow left his bow with a screeching hum, twisting through the air like a living serpent. It glowed brighter with each spin, wrapped in lightning.
KRAKABOOOM!
It struck the Alpha's shoulder with divine force, exploding into a massive lightning burst that split the night sky.
The smell of ozone filled the air as electricity coursed through the creature's body, making its muscles convulse violently.
The Alpha's scream was deafening, echoing through the forest like thunder trapped in a cage. Its fur smoked, and blood dripped from its side. Blas's arrow was enough to paralyze one side of it's body.
Alyssa's chance had come. With her greatsword raised, she leapt high, the world slowing around her.
Her blade burned bright with energy as she descended.
"Take this!" she shouted.
[HEAVEN'S CLEAVE]
Her sword crashed down, slicing through the Alpha's blocking claw. Flesh and bone split apart as she drove the attack down its face, leaving a deep glowing wound across its snout. Blood sprayed upward like a fountain, splattering her armor and cheeks.
"Now!" she cried.
Auren sprinted to the side, boots kicking up dirt. His eyes flickered gold as he activated his other eyes skill.
[TIGER EYES]
Quickly scanning the Alpha's mana flow, he saw it clearly—its heart glowing faintly beneath its chest.
"There!"
His sword flared to life with sword aura.
He dashed forward, ducked under the beast's swining paw and thrust his blade deep into its ribs. The steel sank through muscle and bone until it hit the core.
BOOM!
A pulse of mana burst from within the beast as Auren's sword exploded with fiery energy.
The Alpha shrieked in agony, stumbling backward, its massive form thrashing violently.
"Stay down!" Auren yelled, his grip firm even as the creature's blood drenched him.
Alyssa followed through, spinning her greatsword in a heavy arc.
Her strikes were relentless—each one carving deep wounds, each one filled with righteous fury. The Alpha's limbs gave way one by one until it could no longer stand.
With a final roar, Alyssa leapt again and brought her sword down with all her might. The blade met the Alpha's neck and cleaved straight through.
SHHK~
Blood sprayed across her armor and Auren's face. Then, silence.
The Alpha's massive body trembled once, then collapsed with a heavy thud that shook the river's floor. Its lifeless eyes reflected the moonlight, fading into stillness.
And justl like that, the Blue Bound had taken out the Alpha of this forest.
For a moment, no one moved.
Only the soft crackle of dying mana sparks and the rustling of water filled the air.
Then came the growls.
From the edge of the mist, the rest of the pack appeared—dozens of Night Stalkers, their glowing blue eyes circling the clearing.
Their claws scratched against the stone, their breath fogging the air.
They surrounded Auren and Alyssa in a tight ring, snarling and baring their fangs. The moonlight glinted off their wet fur and sharp teeth. But something about their stance had changed.
They weren't charging.
Their eyes lingered on the Alpha's corpse, on its severed head lying near the two warriors.
Auren bent down, grabbed the Alpha's head by its mane, and raised it high for all to see.
Blood dripped from its jaws as he smiled through the exhaustion.
"You want this?" he taunted, voice steady despite his ragged breathing.
"Come get it."
