Chapter 120: I’m Thirsty

They were at a ballroom. Lu was quite bewildered when Lin escorted her to a rather exquisite-looking hotel a few streets away from Thunderbolt Corp. The newbie excitingly waltzed to one of the long tables at the side with a tray in her hand. She decided to start the course with desserts as the tiny muffins with swirl of icings and cherry pops caught her attention. Her eyes shone bright as the frosting on her fork when she put the first bite in. She made a long “mhm” as she felt the airiness of her red velvet cake.
“Zhao Yang, don’t be shy! Take whatever you like! I’m treating you tonight after all!” Said Lin as generously as an owner of a huge mansion on a buffet.
Lu was the the chief secretary of a major company after all. She had attended quite a handful of fancy occasions like this. And as she followed the president greeting the big shots around, she gained that sense of identifying successful businessmen at one glance. In the dinner that night, she could see how every single guest was the prestigious, capable player in their own market.
When the giant birthday cake was served on the last empty table at the center, the name of the mayor was revealed as written on the white rectangular cake with red cream.
Lu, upon seeing the name, could not help but peek at Lin whose mouth was coated with whipped cream as she sneaked more calories to her daily quota.
Wait a second…
Something caught Lu.
The mayor of the city…also goes by the surname Lin…
Lin Yazhi literally lobbed one cake after another into her mouth, while Lu had been holding a clean plate since the beginning, figuring out a time to leave as she feared meeting Huo Yunting at any time.
He had a dinner that night after all.
“Ya Zhi, well, ummm, not to spoil your moment but the president is probably coming too,” hinted Lu for her departure.
“Nothing to worry! We are not working now, we have our freedom, labor rights you know?”
Okay, Lin did not catch it quite well. She even pulled Lu to one table after another, showing her different cuisines, ignoring those silly guests who mistook them as waitresses.
“Zhao Yang, you know about Sangria? I think it’s Sangria,” said Lin with a glass of pinkish wine in her hand, she took a sip and sucked her palate, “Mhmmm, peachy flavor. Tastes marvelous!”
“Try some.” She passed a glass to Lu.
“Ya Zhi…I…” Lu took the glass and smiled courteously, “I’ll be leaving… enjoy the rest of the night.”
“What do you mean? The night has not even started yet! You have eaten nothing yet!”
Before Lu could make a reply, the tingling sound of cutlery and chatter stopped, as someone joined the dinner, someone the whispers said, “President Huo”.
Oh, he’s here…
Lu grabbed the glass of wine tight.
Okay, it seems like I need to run away right in front of him later.
And Lu was right, it was Huo Yunting who also noticed her at a simple glance upon entering the ballroom. When he spotted the glass of wine in her hand, he made a turn at the entrance and dashed through the crowd towards her.
Does that woman even know the wine she’s drinking?
Does she know not every wine is fine to drink?
At that moment Mo Shan had her arms wrapped over his and she was dragged by the man.
When they stopped before Lu, Mo Shan’s eyes were fearsome for a second before they turned docile and sweet again.
She got to keep her grace. It was an important function after all.
Lu, trying to pretend nonchalance, lifted her glass to have a sip.
But before the sip was done, the glass was snatched away.
What does he think he’s doing? Am I stealing his wine?
And Huo did a bottom-up and returned her the empty glass, “I’m thirsty.”
“Oh, you! Aren’t you a cute waitress? Serve me tonight.” Huo announced looking at Lu, before he turned away.
He was not the first person to have mistaken her.
She was wearing the same theme as the waitresses here tonight…
The Lin family who held the party first took a look at Lu Zhaoyang, only to notice the lively Lin Yazhi standing by. They could tell that the two girls were no waitresses, but the guest had made his order heard.
Lin Jingzhi ran to them and passed a glare at Lin Yazhi, he then looked at Lu, “You shall serve President Huo tonight. You’ll be tipped handsomely by our family afterwards.”
“No, thank you.” She placed down the glass and tailed Huo and Mo Shan.
Right when Lu left the scene, Lin Jingzhi tapped Lin Yazhi’s forehead and ground his teeth, “You’re not getting anywhere, young woman. We’ll talk about this after the dinner!”
Translator’s Note:
Well of course! The new, cheery, naive girl who came to know the female protagonist has to be the princess of a wealthy family, precisely the mayor’s daughter. It all makes total sense!
