Carlotta's Daily Report

Chapter 217: God of Eternal Darkness

The instant the divine soul of the God of Eternal Darkness opened its eyes, both Carlotta and High Priestess Bova felt a chilling coldness throughout their bodies, as if they had plummeted into a frozen abyss, experiencing intense discomfort from head to toe.

The High Priestess quickly spoke, "Bova Hernandez, High Priestess beneath the Seat of the God of Creation, pays respects to the God of Eternal Darkness."

In response, the God of Eternal Darkness extended a hand.

As that hand stretched forth, darkness spread boundlessly, heavy and oppressive, as if compressing an entire starry sky into the palm itself. The strike carried the condensed power of the cosmos crashing down with unimaginable force.

The High Priestess's expression instantly changed. She quickly raised her hand, erecting a white barrier to shield herself.

"Boom!"

The God of Eternal Darkness's palm slammed into the barrier, sending the High Priestess flying backward.

Carlotta, witnessing this, felt her scalp crawl. She immediately flew backward, increasing the distance between them.

Although sent flying, the High Priestess sustained no injuries, for what she faced wasn't the true God of Eternal Darkness.

Regaining her feet, she gritted her teeth and flew back: "God of Eternal Darkness, may I ask what is wrong?"

The God of Eternal Darkness gave no answer, showing not a shred of emotion. Instead, it attacked the High Priestess again, and with a mere lift of its hand, the surrounding area plunged into endless darkness.

Faced with this, the High Priestess could only grit her teeth and endure, all while trying to understand what exactly had happened.

Although the High Priestess was in poor condition, she still displayed astonishing power. In contrast, the state of the God of Eternal Darkness was even worse. Thus, for a time, Bova, merely a High Priestess, actually managed to hold back the God of Eternal Darkness.

Carlotta dared not get involved in a battle of this level. She could only keep withdrawing, watching from afar as a mass of dark light flickered chaotically.

After a prolonged struggle, Carlotta saw the High Priestess get sent flying once more.

"Run quickly! This fragment of the God of Eternal Darkness's divine soul possesses no intelligence, only combat instinct. It will attack any living being it sees!"

The High Priestess shouted from a distance.

Carlotta turned and fled immediately.

Fortunately, she had already been far away. By the time she reached the entrance of the Tower of Babel, the High Priestess had barely caught up.

Then, when she looked back, she saw the God of Eternal Darkness right behind them. Those dark, emotionless eyes were even fixed upon her.

"He's caught up!"

Carlotta screamed frantically, then leapt backward in panic.

The High Priestess, helpless, blocked the God of Eternal Darkness and said, "You go first. I'll follow shortly."

In such a situation, Carlotta wasn't about to hesitate. She was merely a Resonator, not even reaching the level of a Weaver. How could she possibly face a god?

She fled quickly, ascending more than a dozen levels within the Tower of Babel.

When she reached the thirty-third floor, the High Priestess finally caught up.

Her expression grave, the High Priestess said, "We should have shaken Him off. Even within the Tower of Babel, He won't easily find the path upward. After all, He isn't a true god."

"What exactly happened to Him?" Carlotta couldn't help but ask.

This question caused the High Priestess to fall silent.

She sighed and said, "I don't know."

Faced with this situation, she truly couldn't explain the reason. Her own memories were severely fragmented.

Even if her memories were intact, matters concerning gods were difficult for her to elaborate upon. That was already an entirely different realm.

Seeing this, Carlotta could only ask, "This god, He's called the God of Eternal Darkness? And the god of your world is called the God of Creation? Who are the other gods?"

The High Priestess didn't hide anything and promptly named eight gods in one breath.

The God of Creation, the God of Eternal Darkness, the God of Berserk, the God of Courage, the Goddess of Radiance, the Goddess of the Starry River, the Goddess of the Ocean, and the Goddess of the Earth.

After hearing this, Carlotta asked, "In the myths of the Elven race in our world, there's something called the 'Elven Mythic Battle Chart,' which mentions gods like the Goddess of Harvest, the Goddess of War, the Goddess of Wisdom... Are those nonexistent?"

The High Priestess affirmed firmly, "They're likely fabrications. Although my memories are fragmented, I wouldn't be mistaken about this."

She wasn't surprised by this. She explained that legends of gods exist in many places. In ancient times, perhaps only a Weaver or even a Resonator had left behind some traces. Over time, these stories became distorted in transmission, eventually even deifying certain figures, thus persisting in various histories.

The High Priestess stated with certainty, "There are only eight true gods in this world!"

Understanding, Carlotta asked again, "Then what do we do now? What about the God of Eternal Darkness?"

The High Priestess replied helplessly, "There's no way to control it. This fragment of the God of Eternal Darkness's divine soul is impossible to communicate with. We... we can only return first."

"Are we really just leaving like this?"

Carlotta felt reluctant.

"Better to leave now. When I went to your world earlier, I sensed that the Tower of Babel's opening period there wouldn't last much longer. Once it closed, we won't be able to return. That will cause serious trouble."

The High Priestess said.

"Let's hurry back."

Carlotta no longer felt any reluctance and immediately agreed.

Both began their rapid return journey.

And when they reached the 256th floor, a new day had arrived.

Carlotta skillfully summoned her interface and modified it.

[1: Worlds No. 6 to No. 9 have already been completely destroyed in the past. Travel is impossible.]

Carlotta was stunned, then gradually understood.

No wonder the previous intelligence only mentioned pathways to other worlds up to World No. 5 at most.

[2: World No. 4 will be completely destroyed in three days. World No. 5 will be completely destroyed in one month.]

This second piece of intelligence caused Carlotta to sigh inwardly.

Two more worlds were doomed to destruction. The other unmentioned worlds should still endure for a longer time.

But then again, if World No. 4 is destroyed, what will happen to that fragment of the God of Eternal Darkness's divine soul?

She wondered if the intelligence had any information about this, so Carlotta continued reading.

[ 3: The Eight Great gods have all completely perished, leaving behind no remnants of bodies or souls.]

Carlotta froze.

What did this intelligence mean?

She recalled the divine soul of the God of Eternal Darkness she had just seen, and an inexplicable chill spread across her entire body.

The gods left behind no remnants of bodies or souls... Then what exactly was that divine soul of the God of Eternal Darkness she'd encountered?

Carlotta felt an icy coldness, a deeply uncomfortable sensation spreading over her entire being.

"By the way, if the gods knew each other and their relations weren't bad, then during the ancient Divine War, who exactly were they fighting against?"

Carlotta asked instinctively.

"I don't know."

The High Priestess shook her head.

The past was all enigma; no one knew exactly what had happened. Yet just imagining it sent chills down one's spine, evoking an ominous, unsettling sensation.

Was there truly some unknown enemy still out there? Even the Eight Great gods had fallen because of it, undoubtedly a terrifying matter.

Especially recently, Carlotta had encountered what the High Priest believed to be a fragment of the God of Eternal Darkness's soul. But... intelligence reports claimed the god left behind nothing at all.

Then what was it she had encountered?

A cold dread crept into Carlotta's heart, yet she inwardly felt relief, because World Four was about to collapse completely. Whatever that lingering soul might be, it would likely cease to exist when the world crumbled.

When a world returns to nothingness, everything within it naturally vanishes.

[ 4: After Amelia eliminated an opponent opposing her, she attracted the attention of that enemy's elder, a Weaver from the Southern Continent named Warren. Currently, Amelia is in hiding. Her location is as follows (a map).]

"Damn it."

Carlotta couldn't help but curse.

Gods, world destruction, she had no time to think about any of it now. She rushed back through the passage into World One.

The High Priest looked strangely at Carlotta, puzzled by her sudden urgency.

Carlotta didn't have time to explain. She quickly descended through the Tower of Babel.

Two hundred and fifty levels... two hundred and thirty... two hundred…

"Where are you going?"

The High Priestess, following Carlotta all the while, couldn't help but ask.

She no longer knew what to do herself, tagging along with Carlotta was merely an instinctive reaction.

"To deal with some personal matters."

Carlotta replied.

Hearing that, the High Priestess didn't press further and simply continued following.

Although unsure of her own path, she instinctively felt it wouldn't be wrong to stay with Carlotta. In any world, someone like Carlotta was an exceptionally unique individual. Perhaps by following her, she might uncover something.

As Carlotta continued descending, she finally encountered others along the way.

She ran into a group of unfamiliar Weavers, five of them. Seeing only two people, they approached with ill intent. But Carlotta and the High Priestess casually killed two of them, sending the remaining three fleeing in terror, utterly frightened.

Carlotta didn't even recognize the two she'd killed. But Weavers were already apex-level beings in the outside world, highly renowned figures, powerful leaders in their domains.

Yet now, even the most powerful leaders seemed insignificant to her.

Carlotta pressed onward. The lower she went, the more people there were. Below level one hundred and fifty, many Resonators began to appear.

"Why does this girl look so familiar?"

One peak tier Resonator saw Carlotta, first puzzled, but soon remembered. His eyes broadened. "I know! You're the wanted criminal from the Wendell Empire!"

Overjoyed, the Resonator immediately rushed toward Carlotta, hoping to capture her for the bounty.

"Doesn't know death when it stares him in the face."

Carlotta's sword flashed down. In an instant, the blade's light seemed ready to tear apart heaven and earth, splitting everything in two.

The charging peak tier Resonator didn't even have time to react. His face still wore an excited grin when he was instantly killed, his death gruesome.

Onlookers nearby were all shocked, stunned into silence.

Carlotta continued descending, finally reaching level one hundred and forty-four.

This was where Amelia was.

This level depicted a scene of rolling mountains, currently hosting a considerable number of people, quite lively.

The moment Carlotta arrived, she heard many people talking in astonishment, filled with awe.

"I thought I was witnessing a god descending. It's truly unbelievable."

"I never expected such a thing to happen. I saw the beginning, the process, but still couldn't foresee the outcome."

"Who could've imagined? A full-fledged Weaver, defeated by a mere Resonator? And she's only a middle tier Resonator!"

"At first, some thought she was Moon. But she's not."

"You don't know? She's from the Wendell Empire. Her name is Amelia Fenwick. She mastered memory magic, that's a rare ability of a few masters. That's how her identity was exposed."

People conversed excitedly, their expressions filled with wonder.

Defeating a Weaver as a Resonator, this was nothing short of a miracle, difficult not to be moved by.

Even the High Priestess, hearing the surrounding chatter, couldn't help but change expressions. She turned to Carlotta and said, "Are people from your world really all this powerful?"

"Not really. Amelia's just exceptionally talented."

Carlotta replied.

"Do you know her well?"

The High Priest asked.

"Mm. She's my partner."

Carlotta answered.

A question mark appears instantly above the High Priestess' head.

She looked at Carlotta, then recalled the name Amelia, her expression turning gradually complicated.

Soon after, Carlotta found Amelia.

Amelia was currently resting atop a mountain, ambient magical power swirling around her like gentle breezes.

After being forced to reveal her identity in the previous battle, she hadn't hidden herself yet. Her stunning true appearance was now visible, causing millions of people to gaze in a daze.

To nearly everyone, Amelia's face was the most beautiful girl they'd ever seen in their lives.

Silver hair, blue eyes, wearing a form-fitting armored dress, Amelia was beautiful yet not fragile. Simply sitting on the mountain, she commanded awe from many.

Not long ago, she had left behind a battle feat that shocked everyone, single-handedly slaying a Weaver.

Carlotta rushed over, only to realize she didn't need to do anything.

At that moment, Amelia seemed to sense something. She looked up and saw Carlotta flying through the air, immediately standing up with a joyful expression.

Many were watching Amelia. Seeing her reaction, they instinctively turned toward Carlotta. Instantly, whispers and discussions erupted.

"You're back."

Seeing Carlotta, Amelia's heart instantly settled.

"Yeah. I have to say, climbing up the Tower of Babel revealed so much. I've gained quite a bit of insight along the way, I'll tell you about it later."

Carlotta smiled.

"Okay."

Amelia nodded, then interrupted at the High Priest.

The High Priestess still looks as she did when Carlotta first met her, tattered clothes, eyes flickering with madness, giving off an unsettling aura. Just standing in midair, she remains strikingly conspicuous.

"She's the High Priestess Bova," Carlotta said. "From another world."
