Counterfeit Hero

Chapter 35 No more politeness

The matter was significant. When a group of people hurriedly reached the training ground where the incident occurred, they saw the bandit army and a crowd of Feiyang soldiers in a heated standoff, shoulders squared, with several mechas either standing or fallen beside them.

The entire training ground was surrounded layer upon layer, and more people from the Freedom Front or Independent Army were coming over to join the commotion.

From the outer perimeter, the officers could hear the two sides hurling insults at each other. The Leray accent of the bandit army's rabble was particularly noticeable, completely overpowering their several times larger opponents with their wit and variety, making anyone who heard sweat in disbelief. However, as the crowd moved in, the bandit army's voices had dwindled, leaving only the Feiyang soldiers gaining ground with their increasingly vigorous cursing.

So, what everyone saw first was the scene of the Feiyang soldiers furiously berating the Leray people, their emotions agitated. Naturally, their insults were also unpleasant. The Leray people, in contrast, stood silently, eyes glistening with tears, tightly clenching their teeth and fists, maintaining a sorrowful yet restrained posture. They indeed presented the standard image of a civilized army that doesn't strike back or retort under provocation!

It was truly pitiful and worth sympathizing with!... This sentiment was offered by a group of division commanders to the Feiyang people. Really, it was unknown how these Feiyang people were so unlucky to have encountered this despicable gang the moment they arrived.

"General!" A Leray second lieutenant, seemingly just noticing Fatty, hastily stood at attention and saluted. The other rascals also quickly turned to salute, and tears of grievance streamed down their faces as soon as they saluted, looking as pitiful as possible.

The rascals each competed to choke with emotions, putting on a righteous and dignified appearance, glaring contemptuously at the Feiyang people.

Fatty knew that the second lieutenant who first saluted was named Aristotle. This guy was a cunning rascal, constantly lurking alongside and sneak attacking during battles. Fatty was quite satisfied with the performance of these rascals; at least they appeared to be the ones losing out. As for the real situation, a single glance was enough for Fatty to understand.

"What's going on?" Fatty took the initiative, blinking as he roared furiously at the rascals: "Why is there a conflict? You are brothers in the same trench! By acting like this, are you worthy of the uniforms you wear? Are you still Leray soldiers?"

Fatty's image grew increasingly towering: "Whatever the disagreements, they can be resolved. You can come to me or General Douglas. What are you attempting here? Have you suffered a loss and want revenge?"

The division commanders sighed inwardly. This Fatty is setting them up; here comes the critical part.

"A loss is a loss! You don't know someone until you fight them!" Fatty apologized to Douglas and the group of stunned Feiyang people, then turned around with a changed face like a curtain, sternly: "Fortunately, you remembered my teachings, knowing not to fight back or curse back. This time, let's just leave it at that. If I find you in another conflict next time, I'll double your training! What are you standing here for? All of you, get back!"

"Wait!" Amidst the crowd bewildered by Fatty's words, Douglas suddenly snapped out of it and shouted.

Seeing Fatty's stunned and innocent-looking face, Douglas wanted nothing more than to punch that chubby face! His face was frosty; if he hadn't just heard a Feiyang captain on site explain the situation, he almost would have been fooled by Fatty's clever maneuvers again.

However, as it turned out, it was indeed the Feiyang mecha warriors who were responsible for the trouble.

Originally, due to limited space at the base, the Feiyang Army's 102nd Armored Division, now the Southeast Expeditionary Army Second Armored Division, was arranged to train at the training ground of the newly-built 19th Division. During daily training, typically, each company or platoon followed their training plans separately, be it running, climbing, fighting, or using equipment, with mecha control being just one part.

At first, since both sides were from member countries of the Fei Alliance, they greeted each other, feeling relatively close in the Gazalin area. With the training ground split in two, each side trained separately without much issue.

But, the Second Armored Division arranged the arrogant and unruly Special Forces Group for mecha control training in the central area, right alongside the even less disciplined Nineteen Division First Group!

These two groups together naturally started comparing each other.

Such comparison originally wasn't even on the same level. The Special Forces Group was equipped with Tenth Generation mecha [Divine], while Nineteen Division First Group had a set of shabby mecha, mostly Seventh Generation [Warrior] Pioneer and [Warrior] Leader, worn out to the point of looking like a beggar standing next to a prince.

This striking contrast naturally caused the uninformed Feiyang soldiers to burst out laughing; they truly didn't understand how Leray had fallen to such a state. Even the pieced-together mechas of the Freedom Front's Armored Division were much better than theirs.

And the Nineteen Division First Group, originally the Leray Air Marine Corps 16th Division Special Group, composed of old rascals long trained by Fatty, were all thick-skinned and enthusiastic. The more the Feiyang soldiers laughed, the happier they became. In the regional communication channel someone said: "Look, Feiyang elite troops, just a bunch of idiots after all."
