Chapter 308 - Unforeseen Calamity

Chapter 308: Unforeseen Calamity

“I am a traitor?” Feng Lin’s heart sank as he repeated the words in disbelief and horror.

No one ever wanted to be called a traitor.

The term referred to someone who had betrayed humanity and pledged allegiance to the extraterrestrial races. Being a traitor was the most severe interstellar felony. Anyone was authorized to kill a convicted traitor at any time and place. In fact, they would be generously rewarded by the government for doing so.

“You can stop denying! You are now a suspect. All that is needed is for you to be convicted in court!” the crimson-haired guy uttered coldly as if Feng Lin was already dead to him.

Having recalled how he had been offering genuine advice to Feng Lin without knowing that he was a traitor only fueled his anger.

If it was not for the school protocol that forbade him from doing so, he would have killed the traitor then and there!

Unfortunately, despite having sufficient evidence pointing toward Feng Lin’s misdeeds, he was not authorized to carry out any punishment until the military court had convicted Feng Lin.

“Arrest him!” He bellowed with rage.

The other students, who were strong and burly warriors like the crimson-haired guy, approached and surrounded Feng Lin immediately.

All this while, the crimson-haired guy’s gaze remained fixated on Feng Lin in anticipation of the chance to kill him at the slightest sign of resistance.

What caught him by surprise was the lack of resistance from Feng Lin. He allowed the students to tie him up without fighting back.

Feng Lin appeared deep in thoughts. At the rate this was going, there was no way he could have salvaged the situation.

Even so, he knew that he had to stay calm.

He was no match for these people. If he had recklessly resisted the arrest, it would have been seen as an admission of guilt.

Of course, he wouldn’t be stupid enough to do that!

“Throw him into the jail for death row prisoners!” the crimson-haired guy commanded.

Within moments, Feng Lin was tied up and escorted to the prison cell.

Feng Lin was forcefully pushed into the dark cell and with a thud, the door shut tightly behind him. He sat cross-legged on the ground and began thinking about all that had happened.

His journey to join the Great Wall University had definitely been anything but smooth sailing!

He had yet to set foot into the university and he had already been made a traitor!

What was going on here?

It was then that it occurred to him that anyone who had escaped the pursuit of the spirits during the crash of the Great Qin Flying Shuttle should have returned by now.

Did something unexpected happen?

How did he end up being labeled as a traitor?

The more he thought about it, the more unsettled he felt. This was an unforeseen calamity!

However, he did not panic.

There was no use in fighting back, and all he wanted was to clear his name. The only way he could do that was to defend himself in the military court.

As long as his conscience was clear, there was nothing to fear.

Feng Lin calmed himself down.

He figured that he needed more information on the case against him to come up with a good plan. All he could do now was to resolve the issues one at a time.

As there was nothing else he could do in the pitch-black cell, he decided to make good use of time and practice his fist art instead.

The cell reverberated from the thunderous sound of his punches hitting the air, demonstrating how his fist art remained strong and steady like before. Despite the circumstances, he was able to remain calm and collected.

“Huh? This person looks really composed!”

“Logically, wouldn’t someone arrested for treason be flustered?”

“He seems really calm!”

A group of students expressed their confusion while watching the surveillance videos.

“There are two types of people in this world. The former ones are so entrenched in schemes and falsehood that they are able to remain unruffled despite circumstances! The latter are the righteous ones who draw strength from their clear conscience to stay calm! Regardless of which, this boy is most certainly unusual! Make sure all of you continue to watch him closely and not give him the chance to be pull any tricks to escape!” instructed the crimson-haired guy.

“Don’t worry, captain! Any unwelcomed spirits and creatures who dare trespass into Great Wall University are doomed, let alone this little traitor!” A student exclaimed, drawing laughter from the rest.

At that, the crimson-haired guy nodded while staring at Feng Lin through the screen with hatred and disgust.

(With Feng Lin’s willpower and the nurturing from our Great Wall University, there was undoubtedly a bright future ahead of him. Unfortunately, he has chosen to pledge allegiance to the Spirit Race and therefore he deserves to die)

Genetic potential + 1.2, + 1.2, + 1.2, …

Time flies. Before he knew it, three days had passed.

Feng Lin had been practicing his fist arts while seated cross-legged on the ground. Due to the lack of distractions, his genetic potential was rising steadily from the training. Combined with the extraordinary genetic points he already possessed, he was able to gain two free genetic points during the time spent in the cell.

Without hesitation, he added the points to the Spiritual Stone Monkey Gene, maxing out its potential and changing his vital attributes.

Name: Feng Lin

Vitality: 989

Transcendent Gene: Spiritual Stone Monkey Gene: 10; Beast King Gene: 3

Primeval Gene: …

Basic Gene: …

Genetic Potential: 10.2

Feng Lin could feel the difference instantaneously once the potential of the Spiritual Stone Monkey Gene had been maximized. He could feel the Heart Monkey Force permeating every cell in his body in a fluid manner, without taking on any fixed form.

Heart Monkey Transformation!

Whenever the potential of a gene type was maximized, it would bring about a fundamental change in gene quality.

This was what was happening with the Spiritual Stone Monkey Gene here.

Having reached the level of Heart Monkey Transformation, Feng Lin could now transform into any form he desired at will. He would no longer require extensive time and preparation to do so.

Unfortunately, due to the round-the-clock surveillance in the prison cell, he was unable to test his newfound abilities.

He gently closed his eyes to regulate his breathing.

Another day had passed and the prison cell was filled with dead silence as usual.

It was as if Feng Lin’s existence had been forgotten until a loud thud broke the silence.

The prison gate flew open.

The crimson-haired guy had brought along with him two callous giants.

Even though it had only been a few days, he could already tell from the aura Feng Lin projected that his strength and abilities had grown at an exponential pace. How was that even possible?

The stronger Feng Lin became, the colder the crimson-haired guy’s attitude was toward him.

“Get up for your assessment!” he commanded coldly.

“Let’s go,” said Feng Lin plainly as he lifted himself off the ground.

Seeing Feng Lin’s nonchalant attitude, their expressions relaxed.

(Where did those guts come from? Could he be innocent?)

They went on to place a blindfold over Feng Lin’s eyes, and all he could see was pitch-black darkness. He felt his body being wrapped in a strange energy force that locked his genetic power. He could not even use his Heart Monkey Force.

Now he had been rendered completely powerless.

A group of people led him through a dark tunnel and into a secret room. He soon found himself locked in the room all by himself, with countless intense infrared rays passing through and screening every last bit of his body.

“The screening is over. No sign of spirit possession was found!” a computerized voice reported the result.

Feng Lin was immediately brought out and had his blindfold removed.

“What was that for?” were the first words to escape Feng Lin’s lips when he opened his eyes.

“Feng Lin, we suspected that you were a spy from the Spirit Race, so you should count yourself lucky to have passed the test. You are undoubtedly still human. Otherwise, you would not even be given the chance to be tried in the military court,” explained the crimson-haired guy. He clearly seemed less tense than before.

“What would have happened if I had failed the test?” Feng Lin asked solemnly.

The crimson-haired guy let out a laugh. Feng Lin had a bad feeling about this.

“Execution on the spot!”
