Star Hawk Rises

CHAPTER 64: INTERLUDE 3!

Mr. Washington was sitting on the edge of his bed, the evil clock on his bedside table kept telling him it was 3 am each time he glanced at it. He turned his head and looked out the window at the city. He certainly seemed to be having trouble sleeping. Earlier that day he had received reports that Russia was chattering about something big, there was also a decrease in Russian tourists entering the country.

"Something big is about to happen" he mumbled to himself as he slid from his bed and headed out of his bedroom. He was having trouble piecing together what the Russians were planning. He was sure they wouldn't invade America, Mackenzie was from Scotland, everyone knew that.

He groaned tiredly as he stumbled into his office and dropped into his chair, turning to his computer, he quickly booted it up and logged in. rubbing his eyes he opened his favourite game that he played when he needed to relax. It was roughly an hour later as he was using his aim bot to shoot at other players in his game that it clicked in his head. He immediately abandoned his game, not caring about it anymore as he rolled his chair across the table to his laptop. He opened it and quickly started pulling up reports and files, double-checking the possibility of his theory.

"They are closing their borders… is it… They wouldn't… wait a minute, China is doing it too…"

He fled from his office as he ran for his work clothing. He had to get to his office at work so he could start giving orders and prepare for what was coming.

It was almost sunrise by the time he made it into his office and was booting up his computer. He proceeded to spend the rest of the day giving orders and filing reports to get the borders to China and Russia closed. Anyone coming in from there should be scrutinised to make sure they were not bringing anything illegal or harmful to the American citizens into the country.

"You fuckers won't get away with it, I won't let you release any chemicals or bombs into my territory!" he hissed at his computer.

He switched to preparing orders for the navy to move their ships into defensive positions. He knew he was going to have to brief the president before he actually issued the orders, but he figured if he had them ready, he could just slap them all out the second the green light was lit. He glanced at the clock and pushed a button on his office phone and asked his secretary to get him in with the President within the hour. It was then that a global announcement arrived, informing him that Kenna Mackenzie had risen to the rank of Solar Baron.

"You red-haired bitch, how dare you steal what is rightfully mine!" he screamed.

He squished a stress ball as he growled for a few moments longer before glancing at his computer and the orders he had finished filling out, and a grin slowly spread across his face.

"Well, while I'm suspecting countries of acts of aggression and war towards the greatest country on earth, perhaps I should also consider people of committing acts of terrorism!"

Milo Adams was sitting on a plane as it stopped at the terminal and was waiting to be told he could get off the plane. His cousin had gotten them all tickets to London, somehow the entire clan and the branches were all on the plane. They had all been invited to some mysterious place that his cousin was keeping to himself and the leaders of the clan. It had something to do with a favour a powerful noble clan owed his cousin, but in Milo's opinion the noble clans were all stuck up pricks.

It was shortly later that the seat belt sign turned off and everyone quickly went about getting their stuff from the overhead compartments and heading for the exit. By the time Milo had gotten his suitcase from baggage claim, his cousin had already done so and spoke with some people holding up signs that read 'Adams party'. Milo followed behind his family and clansmen as they were led outside and into buses.

Milo sat by the window watching London pass by and was shocked when he saw the palace looming ever closer. His mouth fell open, and he felt like he was rooted to his seat when he saw the royal guards opening the gates and letting the buses pass. He couldn't believe what he was seeing when the buses passed around the palace and into a secluded field where a spaceship sat waiting. When he was let off the bus, he stumbled like a zombie over to an area set up for his clan that had tables everywhere loaded up with so many kinds of English and American food and drinks, including alcohol.

Milo slowly turned, looking around to see what was going on and some sort of direction as to what to do. But he received another shock when he saw half his clan including its leaders were all headed for the ship. His head snapped around to look at a well-dressed gentleman in a suit with greying hair when the man spoke.

"Greetings, Adams clansmen, and welcome to the royal palace of the United Kingdom. While those that can fit comfortably onto the spaceship are doing so now, you will get to remain here and enjoy yourself. There is no need to worry, the ship is taking your leaders and prominent members up to the Blossoming Terranova Orbital Station Base, and then it will return to take all of you up there as well. In the meantime, we have a nice spread of food and drinks for you to enjoy, as well as some light entertainment."

The man then clapped his hands and some dancers quickly ran out onto the sectioned off bit of the field nearby the tables and began to dance. On the other side of all the tables, some lights lit up a stage. A man who looked to Milo like he was overweight. The man wore a Hawaiian shirt with a cap on his head, and he quickly started cracking jokes. Milo felt a little overwhelmed by all of it and slowly turned to look at the ship as its thrusters ignited, and it began to rise off the field and into the sky.

"Shit, cousin, what freaking kind of favour did you manage to pull in to get this kind of treatment?

*******

Joseph Mackenzie was pacing around the command table as he rubbed his chin, the other elders of the Mackenzie clan were seated nearby watching him, including the former clan leader, now adviser. He had felt bad for lying to that Ashley woman, but that was in the past. He was meant to play the bad guy to convince her to leave back to America instead of sitting around and waiting for his niece. However, at the moment he was struggling with what to do, the queen had paid and gotten the space dry dock upgraded to level two so she could start producing ships of her own. Joseph had taken the original dock and started producing more mining barges because one just wasn't cutting it at all. Recently, Kenna had asked him to produce a ship for some unknown people that she apparently owed.

He had done as she requested and found a ship that was a Corvette Class Ship, it had six rooms, six uplink pods, a dinning hall with a state-of-the-art kitchen and all the other stuff that had been requested. Joseph was honestly kind of jealous that the ship was being made for someone not of the clan, and would have very much liked one of these ships for himself. But the almost completed ship was not what was vexing him. They had started looking at the planets Kenna had not claimed or was unable to fully claim, like Mars. The problem with that was they had started scanning these planets for a good reason to claim them quickly, like mining or terraforming. Joseph was a little eager to try constructing the terraforming ship he had purchased the blueprint and licences for. It was very expensive, but they could afford it after they had fixed the accounting mess Kenna had left behind, and they had managed to get all the money flowing into a guild account instead of her own personal account.

However, the problem he was currently having with Mars was the scan showed an area that was missing. No matter how many times he scanned the planet, there was a section that just didn't show up, like it had a hole in the planet that wasn't actually there. He let out a sigh as he turned to face the other elders of the clan.

"Alright, let's let Kenna know her ship will be completed in a few hours, and we will begin the skeleton crew transport of the ship to the designated pickup station, where a boat can bring our people back here. As for this… hole in the planet, I vote we avoid it for now and snap up the rest of Mars and make sure no other clan from earth can get their hands on it. Remember, we need to claim the land in the name of Kenna Mackenzie so she grows stronger, pulling all of us up with her instead of stagnating our climb up the ranking ladder."

"Of course, Joseph, we will get on it right away, but what are we going to do about this announcement from America that Kenna is now a wanted terrorist?"

*******

Ashley was banging her head against a wall near the game card terminal as she was surrounded by her company.

"Damn it. Damn it. How could this happen? I mean, yey, our side won and got everything, but our company got nothing which kinda screws us up, now we are going to have to find a new war front and hope to get something there."

"It will be okay, this is just a minor set back, now we know when Kenna is fielded it's time for us to pack up."

"Indubitably" Ashley replied as she let out a sigh and turned to look at the gaming pods. Before she continued.

"Fuck it, let's get back in there and find ourselves a war to fight in, congratulations, we are now a mercenary company, and I'm hungry!"

There were a few nods and cheers as they all headed back into a random uplink pod. Quickly logging back into a carrier, then running over to the player notice boards to find a war front they could fight on.

*******

A young woman was sitting in a padded cell, slowly banging her head against the wall as she muttered to herself she had been left there, forgotten by the universe. Her mind had started to actually slip with all this confinement, but a letter she had received from her father had cured of that, and she had started to plot and plan, the rocking and head banging was for the cameras benefit, so people would actually think she had slipped. But inside she was laughing as she started imagining how she could best utilise the gift her father was sending her. She glanced at her hud it only displayed a clock and some promotion or propaganda bull shit the mental ward played for her. She would have to wait till she was allowed back out into the activity area to make a phone call or write a letter. But that didn't matter now, after having exhausted all legal routes to get her out of here, he had given up and had sent a Company marine squad from their clan to bust her out. She let out a giggle.

"And once I'm out, they will take me to my brand-new Frigate. That's right, you can go suck it Kenna because I stole your ship, and now it is mine, I think I will call it The Roasted Hawk."

She started laughing again as she quickly stood up and spun around in the room like she was dancing, only to stop when she heard the loud thud against the door. She turned to look out the blood soaked window hole as she watched a man step in front of it and begin to bang something into the door. She figured he was using some sort of tool to force the door open. Moments later, it was open, and the man was holding his hand out to her.

"My Lady, your ride awaits." he stated simply.
