Star Hawk Rises

83: CHAPTER 2: Descent!

After I had endured a long ass walk up those blasted steps, I rested against the secret door as I tried to catch my breath.

"Bloody hell, that was easier when I was using a clone body." I whined.

After a short break I slowly slipped out and started heading down the hallways followed by Devon and his security detail. After I reached the hangar I was already considering a treadmill running the length of the ship to get you to places faster or maybe a golf cart. But it mattered not now, as I was finally in the hanger and could see the skiff parked between the two bigger ships, I then smiled and turned to Devon.

"Alright, I'm off, I'll be back when everything in this star system is properly acquired."

"Great, we will take the drop-ship, so your security detail can keep you safe."

"What? No! I'll take the skiff, it will be much faster"

"But then we can't protect you, so it is best to take the drop-ship"

"But I don't need your protection in this star system when we are the only ones here" I said firmly as I popped the hatch to the skiff and climb in.

I could see the pained look on Devon's face as he glanced between me in the skiff and the drop-ship.

"What if there is more life on those other celestial objects?"

"The frigate's scans are powerful enough to detect life on the opposite side of the star system. I know there is a sort of gnat-like species on an asteroid that is flying towards the fifth planet. It is not the third one that has those people on it, so I'm going to ignore it since it will hit the fifth planet and become a non-problem other than those two species and ourselves. There is no other life in this star system, so don't worry."

"But…"

"Devon, relax a little, we're off the orbital station and the cops are contained in the prison, plus one in an airlock, everything is… ooh, that feels like a red flag moment right there."

Devon gave me a knowing look and I just grinned back at him before hitting the button to close the skiffs canopy and seal myself into the ship. I started waving to him before quickly running through the pre-flight checklist to make sure everything was in working order. Then I lifted slowly off the deck and turned the skiff towards the exit doors and keyed the radio for the control tower.

"skiff 1 heading out, requesting clearance for departure."

"Roger skiff 1, you have clearance for departure, please be aware that you are the only bitch that can pilot this frigate! So don't die out there, okay?" I winced when I heard Clara scream the middle part of her sentence.

"Copy that. Don't die. Got it" I said as I rolled my eyes, moving the skiff out of the hangar and into space.

I set the skiff towards the celestial object that the frigate had said was the furthest away from the sun and added power to the thrusters and laid back in the seat, enjoying the ride and the silence. I had to be nowhere and do nothing. It was great. I finally got to relax a little. However, I must have drifted off to sleep because I jolted awake to the sound of an alarm telling me about an imminent collision. I quickly threw the power into the reverse thrusters and pulled the stick to the left and engaged the side thrusters to give me a little extra push.

I screamed as I prayed to everyone willing to listen until the alarm shut up and a quick scan of my instruments indicated that I had missed the asteroid I had almost flown directly into. I was about to let out a sigh of relief when the alarm went off again informing me I was on a collision course with another asteroid, I quickly initiated a scan to find out what was going on out there. I wanted to scream and curse every red flag in existence when the scan returned with an asteroid storm, forcing me to sit up and take this flight a little more seriously.

The tale has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

After rerouting the power to the rear thrusters, I began weaving and dodging around the rocks as I slowly headed out of the storm, trying to reach the edge of it. More times than I care to admit saw me missing an asteroid by inches. I swear, a few times I heard the hull scraping against the rock or something. It took me close to an hour to work my way slowly out of the storm. The moment I flew out from behind the last rock, my radio went berserk, informing me a frigate was desperately trying to hail me.

"This is the Lost Hawk to Skiff 1 come in Skiff 1 do you copy? We lost track of your transponder for a few hours, please come in! Do you copy? Over." Clara's voice sounded like it was shrieking in panic as she tried desperately to hail me.

"Skiff 1 to Lost hawk, I am still here, just flew into an asteroid storm by accident, took a bit of work to get back out. I'm only a little banged up, but the sensors say the ship is undamaged and still in one hundred percent perfect working order. I will go ahead and assume it might need a paint job when I get back to the frigate, though. Over."

"Jesus H Christmas, you scared the living daylights out of me! Seriously, I thought we were stranded out here and had lost you. Over."

"I'm really sorry about that, I am still here though, and I'm approaching the first stop. After claiming it, I will slowly work my way back in from there. It shouldn't take me more than a day to get back. Why don't you boot up that new dry dock, and build a mining barge with the resources we brought with us, and get to work on acquiring the resources for the Blossoming Terranova Miners Headquarters? Over."

"Roger that, fly carefully, and see you back here tomorrow, I will shove one of the security boys into a mining barge and get to work on the goods, may I also suggest you get the frigate to take a closer look at that asteroid storm when you get back if our radios don't work in it then it has to have some sort of strong magnetic field, and that probably means goodies to harvest. Over."

"Roger, will do. Over and out." I said as I came down to land on the first of many celestial objects in this star system.

A few minutes later, my hand had touched the surface and I had said the line that Zeo had me say back in my home system, what felt like a lifetime ago. Just like that it was done, and I was heading back to the skiff, king of a Baron celestial object in a new star system.

*******

Reece Witherson was sitting in a really comfy chair at a long mahogany table in meeting room 1 of the CIA Headquarters. He was there with four other gentlemen and the joint chiefs. Of those four men, one was the man he really didn't like, a Mr Washington, who he had just found out was head of some sort of galactic noble clan that gave him rights over the planet. Reece, along with Joshua Febleton head of the Department of Justice, Alex Martin head of homeland security, and Fredric Thompson head of the Department of Defence were all staring at Mr Washington like he had lost his mind. The only reason they hadn't called security to have this mad man carted off to the loony bin was because he was sitting in that chair today, representing the President of the United States of America!

"Speak plainly, Washington! What do you mean, there is a system that makes you stronger and live longer based on the amount of land your clan owns?" Reece breathed angrily, he didn't believe Washington for a second.

"I mean exactly that, there are little nanotech machines inside my body keeping me youthful and strong and the more land I purchase or acquire through conquest, extends my life span, increases my strength. I have told you this three times."

"And what, you expect us to believe that they are not a threat to America, and that we can safely use them to defend our borders?" Fredric snapped at Mr. Washington.

"You are thinking small, I expect you to use them to defend our entire solar system! There is an orbital station above the UK right now, producing massive machines of war that they could use to level our entire country, I propose gentlemen that the four of you form your own clans, the CIA clan, the justice clan, the sol defence clan and the Homeland security clan, and form under my clan as I am the true and rightful owner of this star system."

"What's in it for us?" Joshua suddenly asked as he turned his chair towards Washington.

"immortality and a lot of money." Washington replied.

"ha! Alright, I'm in." Alex said cheerfully.

Reece watched the others nod their heads in agreement and reach out to shake this Washington guy's hand.

"Great, once we have all the members of each department and agency into their prospective clans we can invade England since there are no clans left there to defend the land, it might as well belong to us.

"I suppose the President is on board with this?" Reece asked slowly.

"Of course, he is a member of my clan." Washington replied with a light chuckle.

*******

I was sliding back into the skiff after having just finished claiming the moon of the third planet. I closed the hatch and began to work through the pre-flight checklist again, making sure the skiff was still in working order after the long day. I had claimed all the celestial objects in the star system, except for the one I had been saving for last. However, after 7 hours of flying and claiming, I had landed on an asteroid hurtling towards the next celestial object, I had to claim and took a nap while I waited for it to pass close by. That was a great nap, I felt really energised after I woke up from it.

I smiled and lifted off the moon, slowly turning the skiff before routing power to the rear thrusters and headed up and away. After I passed what should have been the moon's orbit, I set in a course for the third planet. It was finally time to get a good look at who was down there and see if I could claim the planet for my clan before the English showed up to do it. It was a while of sitting in the cockpit staring at nothing but a relatively quick flight to the planet. As the skiff descended between the clouds I slowly rolled the skiff over to get a look at the ground, continuing my descent felt exhilarating as I watched the ground slowly come up at me. I spotted a small village off to my left, tucked away in a small valley I turned my head slowly looking at it as the skiff continue its descent the people walking around slowly became more clear. I slowly smiled as I watched them going about their business, collecting water, hunting, gathering, I could even see what looked like roadside stalls. I glanced at my systems and began scanning the planet, but I could not find any technology at the level that would allow the people of this world to be aware of what was beyond the clouds. A frown slowly crossed my face as I turned my attention back to the village, only to spot a woman that looked like a young adult staring up at me. I knew the skiff was descending fast, but I didn't think it was that close to the ground. However, what I saw next shocked me so much I nearly crash into the ground before I could reroute the power to make the Skiff flip over and land near the village.
