Chapter 789
Roddy sat before a notebook. However, instead of typing on the keyboard, he placed both hands on the notebook.
His eyes were closed, but the pages on the screen were flashing non-stop, refreshing as fast as the notebook possibly could.
“I’ve roughly… found it.” Roddy opened his eyes. “There are no detailed information. However, two days ago, a series of reports regarding animal injuries came from a small town called Greendale. In the past two days, no more news came out from this small town.”
“Distance and direction?” Lun Tai nodded and asked.
“Southeast, around 100 kilometres.”
Lun Tai considered it before nodding. “Then… let’s split into two. Bei Tai, Qiao Qiao, Soo Soo and I will head to the small town and immediately begin monitoring the place. We will ensure that no other teams snatch away the meteorite. Roddy, Xia Xiaolei and Qimu Xi, the three of you stay in Los Angeles. If you find any suitable targets, there is no need to notify me. Immediately take action to capture them.”
“Understood.”
Roddy and the other two nodded.
“Then… move out!”
…
Inside a small bar, Tian Lie and Nicole were seated across each other.
Placed before Nicole was a cup of cocktail, which was practically untouched. On the other hand, the other half of the table facing Tian Lie was already filled with empty beer bottles.
“Have you received the prompt from the instance dungeon?” Tian Lie gave Nicole a glance.
“Got it.” Nicole nodded. “There are 10 more hours before we get the location of the quest item. We can still rest for a while.”
“Rest my ass!”
Tian Lie’s head turned skywards as he took one last gulp of beer. Then, he placed the beer bottle on the table, tossed two dollar bills on the table and strode towards the door.
“Where are you going?” Nicole swiftly got up to follow Tian Lie.
“Surely you are not expecting to just take a stroll and the transport team will automatically jump out in front of us, are you?” Tian Lie walked out the door, taking big strides as he said loudly, “I can’t wait for 10 hours. In order to find the location of the transport team, I will naturally have to hack the US army’s data network.”
“Nonsense! Of course I know that.” Nicole snorted.
“But what you said earlier is the search for a military base, not an internet café! Also, can you lower your voice? Everyone in the surrounding five streets can hear you!”
“You fool.” Tian Lie looked at Nicole the same way one would look at an idiot. “The military’s network is isolated from the outside world. Only through the same intranet system would one be able to hack it. Do you not understand that?”
That said, he did lower his voice somewhat.
“Fine.” Nicole nodded.
“Given what a big city Los Angeles is, there must be soldiers stationed here. Only…” Tian Lie scratched his bald head. “I do not know where. How about… we create a ruckus? As long as we kill off the cops that come to arrest us, the army will surely appear next.”
“You really are sick in the head…” Nicole said with a dark face. “Forget it. I’ll drive. I know where we can find one.”
“Huh?”
Tian Lie looked at Nicole as she walked to a nearby car.
“How do you know?”
“I used to work for the US government’s intelligence agency.” Nicole pulled open the door and sat in the driver’s seat. Gesturing with her head, she said, “Get in.”
Less than half an hour after the car left Beverly Hills, Nicole slowly stopped it somewhere beside the road.
It was still a city area with a high number of buildings.
“Here? A military base?” Tian Lie turned to Nicole. “Did you remember it correctly?”
“My brain is not as bad as yours,” Nicole replied coolly. “Do you see the building up ahead? That’s the Los Angeles Air Force Base. It is the Space Force’s research and development base. As it is also part of the army, it is connected to the army’s internal network.”
“Fine.” Tian Lie shrugged. “Whatever you say. Wait here. I’ll be back soon.”
“Wait!” Nicole grew startled. “What are you going in for?”
“If I don’t go, then what will you do?” Tian Lie gave Nicole a glance.
“There is no need to raise a ruckus now.” Nicole shook her head. “I have documents that can allow me to pass through. Then… we can figure a way to find the information.”
“Stop dreaming!”
Tian Lie laughed loudly. “Who do you think you are? A general? Given the level of secrecy for such information, there is no way you can obtain it.”
“Let’s first give it a try. It’s better than just breaking in.” Nicole frowned. “You stay here.”
“Who said I am going to break in? Little angel, hand over your documents,” Tian Lie rubbed his head and said casually.
“What are you up to?” Nicole shot a suspicious look at Tian Lie. Even so, she extended her hand to give him a book.
Tian Lie opened the book and opened it. Looking at the photo on it, he then turned to look at Nicole and chuckled. “As expected, ID photos are always uglier.”
“Have you seen enough?” Nicole watched as Tian Lie turned his gaze towards her, from her hair down to her toes. She glared fiercely at Tian Lie.
“Not enough.” Tian Lie shook his head, his gaze still fixed on Nicole.
“I cannot leave any flaws.”
“What?” Nicole frowned. Next, she watched as Tian Lie’s whole body shone with light as his body transformed into streams of metallic data. The streams then slowly wriggled.
“So disgusting.” Nicole gave a harrumph as Tian Lie, who was standing before her, slowly transformed into her appearance. Her facial features, her hairstyle, all the way to the clothes on her body, all of them were seemingly carved out from a mould.
“How is it? There’s nothing different, right? Look carefully.” Tian Lie looked at the stunned Nicole.
“There won’t be anyone who knows me in there. There is no need to pay attention to the minor details.” Nicole shook her head. “Hurry up and head inside.”
“Fine.” Tian Lie threw a flirtatious smile at Nicole. Then, he pushed open the car door and alighted, performing a catwalk with long legs as his curvaceous buttocks swayed in the wind.
“Damn it! I don’t walk in such a slutty manner!” Nicole rolled down the car window and shouted at Tian Lie.
“There won’t be anyone who knows you in there. There is no need to pay attention to the minor details.”
Tian Lie turned around and threw Nicole a… err, captivating smile. “You’re the one who said that.”
After waiting for around half an hour, Nicole saw Tian Lie, who was still assuming her appearance, walking sensuously towards her.
“It’s done.”
Tian Lie walked over, pulled open the door and sat in the front passenger seat. Returning the book to Nicole, he said, “Your level is quite high. If it weren’t for that, there’s no way I would be able to so easily access an area with an intranet port.”
“I’m just an ordinary staff member. Among the intelligence agencies of the United States, the Department of Homeland Security and the army have the closest level of cooperation. But if you want to operate a computer, my clearance is not enough,” Nicole said coolly.
“Hurry up and change back. I don’t like seeing you with my appearance.”
“Don’t worry, I didn’t go to the toilet just now.” Tian Lie laughed, changing back to his original form.
“What about the details? Where should we go?” Nicole started the car.
“There’s a small town called Greendale in the southeast. Three days ago, a meteorite crash landed somewhere near the town. It seems that the meteorite carried with it some kind of alien gene that infected the living creatures there, even the residents. However, before the infection could spread, the US Army was dispatched to wipe out all the infected creatures. The meteorite – the source of the infection – was found and contained. They plan to send it to a secret base in Arizona for research. “I say, could that be the legendary Area 51?”
“It can be considered as one of them.” Nicole nodded. “I know the place, but I’ve never gone there before. Is the meteorite still near the town?”
“Mmm.” Tian Lie nodded. “The US Army is very efficient. At present, they have already sealed the area around the crash site and even the little town. That’s a 10-kilometre radius. They’ve already set up a restricted military area and stationed a brigade of soldiers and two battalions of marines. The estimated departure time for the transportation of the meteorite is in eight hours’ time.”
“But… alien lifeforms?” Nicole frowned. “If that’s the storyline, how did the US Army manage to kill them?”
Tian Lie instantly burst into a wild laughter.
“It can’t be helped. The difficulty level of this instance dungeon does not appear to be that high. The meteorite only carries genes in it. After crashing down, they had to slowly evolve from a single cell. I checked the database. Before the US Army wiped them out, those monsters had only evolved to the level of reptiles. They were still using teeth and claws to attack.”
“In less than three days, they evolved from a single cell to the level of reptiles?” Nicole was surprised. “That’s already very fast. If given another day or two, won’t they evolve to human-like creatures with intelligence?”
“I didn’t have time to look through the database. Moreover… given how little time there was, I figured that the amount of research that the US Army could carry out is highly limited. There wouldn’t be too much information.” Tian Lie shook his head. “For now, there is no need for us to worry about these things. Let’s go find the meteorite first. Head to Greendale!”
“Alright.” Nicole nodded. She had been just about to step on the gas pedal when she suddenly heard a series of booming sounds.
The explosions came from none other than the Los Angeles Air Force Base building that Tian Lie had just visited.
