Nyx tried her best to stay focused on her cultivation, but the stillness of the ride eventually pushed her to admit that she too was restless. Selene, of course, had been complaining the loudest, tapping her nails against the wood paneling and sighing every few minutes.
Lucas had been watching them with the corner of his eye. He knew Selene's sharp tongue was restless, and that her constant whining about boredom would not stop unless something changed. He had already anticipated this moment long before it came. Straightening from his relaxed position, he turned toward the small cabinet on the side of the carriage. He caught Lira's attention and gave her a subtle signal with his hand.
"Lira," he said in a calm tone that carried a faint hint of mischief, "pass me that bottle of wine."
She arched a brow at him, setting her sewing aside. "Wine?" she asked, though there was no resistance in her voice. She rose lightly, opened the little cabinet door, and retrieved the dark glass bottle that had been stashed there for occasions exactly like this.
Lucas's lips curved in a small, knowing smile. "Yes, wine. And fetch four cups while you're at it."
She returned with the bottle and the cups, setting them neatly before him. Lucas uncorked the wine, the rich scent filling the confined space of the carriage. He poured a measure into each cup, taking his time, the liquid swirling dark and heavy. Then he handed one to each of the women, keeping the last one for himself.
Selene's expression immediately brightened. She had been slouched against the cushions, but now she sat upright, eyes sparkling with sudden interest. "Finally, something to break this dreadful monotony."
Nyx reached for her cup, her slender fingers brushing against the rim as she gave Lucas a questioning look. "What are you planning, Xavier? Surely this isn't just to drink for the sake of drinking."
Lucas leaned back comfortably, his cup resting in his hand, and let his eyes sweep over all three of them. "Of course not. I have a game in mind. Something simple, but interesting enough to pass the time."
Selene perked up immediately, leaning in as though the secret had been whispered only for her. "A game? What sort of game?"
He took a slow sip from his cup before answering. "It goes like this. We take turns asking each other questions. But here's the rule, the one asking must be expecting a 'yes' for an answer. If the person asked says 'yes,' then they must drink. If they say 'no,' then the one who asked the question must drink instead. The wine will decide how truthful we all are."
Selene's eyes glowed with delight. She leaned back with a mischievous smile, swirling the wine in her cup. "Oh, that does sound exciting. Dangerous too, in its own way." She shot a glance first at Nyx, then at Lira, before letting her gaze settle back on Lucas. "I like it already."
Lira shook her head with a soft laugh, her voice quiet but amused. "You just like any excuse to pry into other people's secrets."
Selene smirked, unapologetic. "Of course. Secrets are far more entertaining than silence. And if wine helps us pull them out, then so be it."
Nyx held her cup delicately, her expression calm but her curiosity obvious. "This could either end in laughter or in arguments," she remarked, though her lips curved into a small smile. "But I suppose a little fun won't hurt us."
Lucas lifted his cup slightly, meeting each of their eyes in turn. "Then it's decided. We'll play. Truth and wine. No lies, no evasions. Only honest answers."
Selene raised her cup in mock salute. "Now that's more like it. This journey just got interesting."
The four of them sat in a loose circle, each holding a cup that still carried the fragrance of the strong wine Lucas had poured for them. Selene twirled her cup in her hand, her mischievous smile already betraying the fact that she intended to take this game far beyond the simple exchanges Lucas probably had in mind.
"Well," Selene began, leaning back against the cushioned seat, her eyes darting first to Nyx, then to Lira, and finally settling on Lucas, "since I am the most bored, I'll ask the first question."
Lucas raised an eyebrow, already knowing that Selene was not going to start lightly. He smirked and gestured for her to continue. Lira, more reserved, tightened her fingers around her cup, not sure she liked where this was going. Nyx, however, tilted her head, her sharp eyes narrowing with curiosity.
Selene let the silence stretch a little before she finally asked in her clear, teasing voice, "Have you ever thought of Xavier's fat cock while lying in bed at night?"
Both Nyx and Lira froze at the question, their cheeks heating instantly, while Lucas nearly bursted into a laugh. "Selene, I thought we agreed this game was about truth, not about embarrassing everyone to death."
"That is truth," Selene countered with a sly grin. "And don't forget the rules, Xavier. A question has been asked. They must answer truthfully, or you'll be breaking your own game before it even starts."
Lira looked at her, "You didn't say the questions had to be like this," she muttered, her face red.
"Of course they do," Selene said with a playful roll of her eyes. "Otherwise it will be boring, and I am not about to sit here and ask silly questions like 'Have you ever eaten roasted duck with plum sauce?' That's not a game. Now answer."
Nyx was the first to speak. She lifted her cup calmly, though her ears betrayed her by flushing crimson. "Yes," she said. She then gulped down the wine.
Lucas's lips parted slightly, his mind running quickly over her admission, but before he could say anything, Selene's laughter rang out. "Ah, so the quiet and composed Nyx is not so innocent after all. How interesting."
Then everyone's attention turned to Lira.
"Answer," Selene pressed, leaning forward eagerly.
Lucas sighed, shaking his head.
Lira's cheeks burned bright red, and after a long moment of hesitation, she nodded faintly. "Yes," she admitted, her voice barely above a whisper, before drinking her wine quickly to hide her face.
Selene clapped her hands together, clearly pleased with the outcome. "Well, that was more entertaining than I imagined. Lucas, it seems both of your ladies here think of you when they're alone at night. How does that make you feel?"
Lucas rubbed his temple, half exasperated and half amused. "It makes me feel like I made a mistake letting you start the game."
Nyx smirked faintly, still avoiding his gaze, while Lira sat stiffly, too embarrassed to look at anyone. Selene just leaned back with satisfaction, her eyes sparkling with wicked amusement.
Lucas sighed, lifted his cup, and muttered, "This game is going to get out of hand fast."
"That's the whole point," Selene said sweetly. "Now, whose turn is it next?"
