Chapter 113: Rewards

The Special Service Bureau will send someone over, Yu Sheng had known this all along. Specifically because of the report sent by Little Red Riding Hood about the appearance of an Angel Sect member in the museum, the Special Service Bureau would definitely come to Yu Sheng, a "special party concerned," to confirm the information as soon as possible. It was most likely that Li Lin and Xu Jiali, who had some acquaintance with him, would be the ones dispatched.

Yu Sheng did not expect that it wouldn't be just the two of them—Song Cheng, the captain of the second squad, also came.

In the living room of No. 66 Wutong Road, Yu Sheng curiously sized up the burly man in front of him, who exuded a veteran and reliable aura—the man was a middle-aged man with black short hair, slightly dark skin, with a faintly visible scar under his neck, dressed in a plain black coat, white shirt, his muscular arms contours vaguely visible under the coat. Although his build was not as exaggerated as Xu Jiali, he was clearly a front-line combatant.

With the leader present, Li Lin and Xu Jiali, who came together, seemed somewhat restrained sitting on the side sofa.

At the same time, Song Cheng was also curiously looking around this place.

It was his first time visiting this hidden "Exotic Realm", No. 66 Wutong Road, currently one of the most mysterious places in Boundary Land.

To him, the place seemed like a normal residence, everything looked ordinary, with home furnishings and appliances all complete, and each item fit perfectly with the current "social background" of Boundary Land—neither very new nor too old, just what an average household should look like.

This situation was actually not in line with his experience.

Because Boundary Land was not without "residential" looking Exotic Realms, he was familiar with places like the dark cottages, Dormitory 404, or the mysteriously appearing "Apartment 6" on the edge of town. These Exotic Realms on the outside looked very much like a normal residence, and people stepping in for the first time might even relax, thinking they had just arrived at a harmless empty house, but in fact, such realms always had aspects clearly inconsistent with reality, typically objects that did not fit the overall zeitgeist, or misplaced items.

For instance, a brass oil lamp placed next to an electric light, a drip device on the windowsill, or a window inlaid on the floor—giving the feeling that non-human beings were trying hard to mimic "human" dwellings, mostly restoring it correctly but carelessly exposing incorrect understanding of human objects in the details.

But not here, at least not in the places visible at No. 66 Wutong Road, everything quite conformed to Song Cheng's "common sense" as a human.

...Of course, that's if he ignored the two dolls sitting on the coffee table watching TV, and the fox seriously grooming its tail.

Just then, Yu Sheng's voice broke the slightly awkward silence in the living room: "How about some tea?"

"Ah, no need to bother, water will do," Song Cheng quickly diverted his gaze, smiling, first apologizing to Yu Sheng, "Sorry for the sudden visit—mainly because the matter involves the Dark Angel, there are some pieces of information that require my on-site authorization before they can be disclosed to a third party."

Yu Sheng waved his hand: "It's fine, it's fine, I was curious about what the 'captain' that Li Lin and the others often mention is like, it's nice to meet you."

The two Erins sitting on the coffee table watching TV, hearing the polite exchanges on the sofa, turned their heads and complained, "Human socializing is really troublesome."

The two dolls spoke in unison, sounding like an echo.

"I was going to ask," Song Cheng finally couldn't help but raise his hand and point at Erin, "wasn't the report saying... just one?"

Li Lin and Xu Jiali also looked at Yu Sheng, appearing very puzzled.

When Yu Sheng opened the door to let them into the house earlier, both had seen two Erins lounging in the living room, even suspecting they were hallucinating at first.

"There was a little incident, the number increased," Yu Sheng said a bit awkwardly, rubbing his hands, "just consider it the research outcome with Erin."

Li Lin's expression was a bit dull, and he blurted out without thinking: "Will there be more in the future?"

Yu Sheng thought about it and nodded seriously: "Possibly."

Li Lin was stunned and felt it inappropriate to continue questioning, as he saw that Yu Sheng did not seem very willing to explain the underlying principles.

Song Cheng felt that there was something strange about this conversation, he even couldn't understand how such a bizarre conversation could continue so naturally...

But he didn't forget the matter at hand.

"I have come here for two things. One is to confirm the situation reported by Little Red Riding Hood about cultists from the Exotic Realm appearing in the Museum," he said, gesturing for Xu Jiali to open his briefcase. He placed a file folder on the coffee table, "This is the full set of legal registration documents and credentials for 'travel agency', you can take a look. If there's anything unclear, feel free to ask me."

Legal registration documents for a "travel agency" as a lawful organization!

Yu Sheng nearly forgot about this matter, but his eyes lit up immediately. He quickly grabbed the file folder, and Erin, who was sitting at the coffee table, leaned over (the other still engrossed in watching TV) and together they unpacked the contents.

First, there was a registration certificate, with a black cover, deep red seal of the Boundary Council in a circular logo and the diamond logo of the Special Service Bureau on it. Opening it revealed the basic registration information of the travel agency, including registered address, registration time, type of business, and names. The giant words "travel agency" in the middle of the certificate brought a profound sense of reassurance to Yu Sheng.

Then came a copy of the registration certificate, along with two black devices, similar to USB drives.

"These two are your digital data disks, which also come with a special version of 'Border Communication' software," Song Cheng explained, "Plug them into any internet-capable computer, and that computer will temporarily get access to the Special Service Bureau's information platform, allowing you to log into 'Border Communication' just like your custom phone can. It has a 'travel agency' common account installed, which cannot be altered or cancelled. The device itself includes security measures, so there's no need to worry about data leaks or tampering. It will erase the access log as soon as it's unplugged. Moreover, if it suffers severe damage, it will automatically alert the Special Service Bureau and send back the last known coordinates before the damage occurred."

"…It's that sophisticated?" Yu Sheng looked at the two unassuming devices somewhat surprised. Although he wasn't very knowledgeable about technology, hearing Song Cheng's description, he instinctively felt that this was not something of the same caliber as the electronics he was familiar with. If he had to describe it… it felt a bit like black technology.

"The Special Service Bureau's technology is trustworthy most of the time," Song Cheng said with a slight smile, "So this device can also serve as a one-time distress signal in extreme situations."

Yu Sheng, curious, asked, "So if this thing breaks in my house, can it still send back the coordinates?"

Song Cheng's smile stiffened a bit but he managed to recover, "That's why I said it's trustworthy most of the time…"

Yu Sheng chuckled, casually storing away the devices, and then thought for a moment before beckoning Hu Li, who was grooming its tail, and handed one of the "digital data disks" to him, "Stash this in your tail, as a safety backup."

Hu Li responded with an "oh," tucked the little device into his tail, and then slipped back to continue grooming.

"Don't forget to sweep up afterwards," Yu Sheng reminded when he saw this, "Don't leave fur everywhere."

"Sure!"

Song Cheng's smile continued to stay frozen, before he blurted out after a while, "…where did she put that thing!?"

"I figured you didn't get these details in your report," Yu Sheng snickered, "Hu Li has a set of curious and bizarre skills, you'll have the opportunity to learn more about them—yet now let's first discuss the situation at the museum."

"We've already started the arrest operation, currently using technology to scan for suspects among the active population in the South District. All exit passages of the Boundary Land have been blocked. As long as those two cultists are active in Boundary City, it's only a matter of time before we catch them," Song Cheng quickly adjusted his facial expression before speaking, "The crucial lead you provided is extremely important—in fact, in my many years with the Special Service Bureau, it's rare to obtain such detailed suspect information so early in an incident."

Xu Jiali also joined in: "Cultists of the Angel Sect are notoriously elusive and almost never leave living eyewitnesses, making them very hard to capture up until now. The officer in charge of this case said they've never had such a favorable case in their life."

"That's true, they didn't leave any survivors this time either," Yu Sheng commented nonchalantly, "but here comes a dead man talking."

Song Cheng's face subtly shifted, and then he looked very solemnly at Yu Sheng, "I was just about to discuss that—about your ability to communicate with the dead, and the other abilities showcased by the 'travel agency', the Special Service Bureau hopes to have more cooperation in the future."

As he spoke, he took out a thick envelope from his bag and placed it on the coffee table.

Yu Sheng was momentarily stunned, then quickly guessed what that was.

He opened it and glanced inside, his expression a little surprised, "A reward? Is this like a reward for reporting? It's quite a lot."

"It's a compensation for assisting in capturing the Angel Sect cultists. Although we haven't caught them yet, the help you've provided far exceeds that of a typical 'informant'," Song Cheng said seriously, "All collaborations with the Special Service Bureau are rewarded, you just became a Spirit Realm detective, so you might not be familiar with this—when dealing with dangerous subjects like the Angel Sect cultists, the Special Service Bureau's budget is always very generous."

Yu Sheng didn't really pay much attention to what Song Cheng said—his mind was filled with the thought that Erin's desired new TV finally seemed within reach.

And the chicken legs for Hu Li, as well as his many "plans."

Earning money this way is much faster than writing books!
