Dimensional Hotel

Chapter 179 Secret Letter

The young man with a tired look pushed open the door and left, leaving the living room in silence for a moment.

After a few seconds, Yu Sheng was the first to break the silence: "It's obvious he's giving us a break... where should we start?"

Little Red Riding Hood didn't say anything, she just got up and went to the low cabinet, took down the ash urn on top and held it in her hands: "Let's give it a try."

This time it was Yu Sheng who hesitated before "trying": "...Do we really have to try?"

"This is for Old Zheng," Little Red Riding Hood said calmly, "If he really had something he didn't get the chance to say, this might be the only opportunity left."

Seeing the serious expression on the young girl's face, Yu Sheng finally took a deep breath, set aside his hesitation, and reached out for the ash urn...

A moment later, he shook his head lightly.

"As expected, it won't work..." Little Red Riding Hood blinked, with a hint of regret in her tone, but she quickly sighed in relief, "But, honestly, not everything in this world is that simple."

She turned around and placed the porcelain urn back on the cabinet solemnly, then respectfully bowed to it before looked back at Yu Sheng: "I am a bit surprised. You usually act without considering the consequences, not even caring for your own life. Why are you so cautious and serious this time?"

"This is different," Yu Sheng said earnestly, "Ordinary people only die once—life and death matter are very serious."

Little Red Riding Hood stared fixedly at Yu Sheng for a few seconds, seemingly reevaluating the person in front of her. After a while, she looked away and pointed towards the bedroom: "Let's see what else is in there."

The two entered the room and soon found the belongings the young man had mentioned—on the desk by the window, there was a stack of old books, several notebooks, and some assorted labels, letters, or notes.

Yu Sheng went over and flipped through one of the notebooks, seeing the clear and neat handwriting that vaguely indicated the writer's personality and lifestyle habits.

He looked up and saw neat rows of solid wood shelves against the other side of the wall, filled with various artifacts, including ceramic vessels, metal ornaments... and even two anime figurines.

Noticing Yu Sheng's gaze, Little Red Riding Hood also turned to look and waved her hand: "Don't bother looking, the 'Wailer's' statue, such 'abnormal collections,' definitely wouldn't be placed here. In fact, the statue is now missing; the Curious Object Association is also searching for it. It might be in one of Old Zheng's secret stashes or perhaps already on the black market."

"I was just marveling at how widespread this old guy's hobbies were," Yu Sheng shook his head, "Those two figurines look expensive."

"...I don't quite get it," Little Red Riding Hood muttered and focused her attention back on the books and notebooks in front of her.

Yu Sheng also calmed down and together they started perusing.

Most of the books contained information related to art collection, with the two most-read books filled with notes. "Old Zheng" had added many insights under the entries he was interested in, but the notebook contents were quite chaotic, ranging from mundane daily matters to work annotations, looking mostly ordinary.

Yu Sheng's eyes fell on the notes and letters.

He was surprised that even in this day and age, someone still used paper letters for communication, and some of these letters were very new, evidently received recently.

Yu Sheng picked up the letters that caught his attention, especially the last one with a date. He scanned it casually.

The top and bottom of the paper were wrinkled, seemingly gripped tightly. However, the contents were just some daily greetings and discussions about certain collections, dated three days ago with an obviously fake signature.

"What's in this letter?" Little Red Riding Hood glanced over and asked curiously.

"The content isn't unusual..." Yu Sheng murmured, frowning, but for some reason, he couldn't shake the feeling that there was something off about the letter, flipping it repeatedly yet finding nothing.

Nonetheless, his spiritual intuition kept pounding, making it impossible to ignore the sense of discord in his mind.

"Burn it with fire? Or soak it in water?" Little Red Riding Hood thought aloud, "Although these are old-fashioned letter encryption methods..."

"No, if this is truly a specially treated secret letter, it might ruin any clues," Yu Sheng frowned, "Come to think of it, we should've brought Erin with us; she has some strange skills in mysticism."

Little Red Riding Hood pondered and uncertainly suggested: "Should we bring her over now? There's no one else around at this time; your door isn't pretty convenient."

Realizing the suggestion, Yu Sheng replied: "Eh, that makes sense."

As soon as he finished speaking, he took out his phone and reported to the Special Service Bureau. Then he raised his hand and grabbed at the air beside him cautiously—a much smaller illusionary door than usual appeared in his hand. On the other side was the living room of No. 66 Wutong Road, facing the sofa, where Erin was sitting, stunned: "…Uh, what?"

"Come over and help." Yu Sheng said, reaching through the door to pull out a little puppet.

"Hey, what are you doing? I'm watching TV—"

The little puppet protested halfway, but she was already placed on the table. The rapid scene change left her momentarily dazed.

But she quickly reacted, her eyes widened: "Yu Sheng, you jerk! How can you do this? You said you wouldn't drag me out suddenly! I was just watching TV, wanting to see which of those two idiots would die first, and now you've ruined the climax…"

Yu Sheng quickly cut off the puppet's protest: "Both of those idiots die together later, but in the next episode, an even stupider villain comes out to stir trouble. I've seen it, it'll drive you mad. The female lead eventually dies with the male lead's cousin, and in the epilogue, everyone dies."

Erin listened, dumbfounded, and finally jumped up in rage: "Who the hell wrote this…"

But halfway through her jump, Yu Sheng pushed her back down: "What's happening here is really important. I can't handle it alone; I need your help."

This immediately suppressed Erin's anger. The puppet's attitude switched so fast that even Yu Sheng didn't react right away. She became smug: "I knew you couldn't do without me—what's up?"

Yu Sheng pointed at the table: "Look at these letters. My intuition says there's something wrong, but I can't figure it out."

Erin turned and looked, confused: "If there's a problem, why don't you open them first?"

Yu Sheng and Little Red Riding Hood were both bewildered and said in unison: "Open them?"

Yu Sheng then picked up the letter that gave him the most unease: "Isn't this already an opened paper? It only has this content…"

"It's rolled up! Can't you see?" Erin looked at Yu Sheng as if he were an idiot, took the letter, grabbed both ends with her hands, and gently stretched it.

The sound of paper rustling reached everyone's ears.

Illusionary flames flickered on the surface of the letter.

The seemingly complete paper was "opened," gradually pulling out the hidden surface. Yu Sheng's eyes widened in surprise as new lines of content began to appear between the original handwriting…

But before the content fully appeared, the letter abruptly stopped "opening."

Yu Sheng looked up in confusion: "Huh? Why did it stop?"

Erin pouted: "…My arms aren't long enough."

Yu Sheng's face twitched: "Then I'll bring another you over."

"No, don't! I'm busy raiding over there," Erin quickly stopped Yu Sheng from opening another door, "You take this side—no special tricks needed, just slowly pull it apart. Even ordinary people can do this. Right, slowly, the paper seems fragile. Pulling too fast might tear it."

So Yu Sheng, following the puppet's instructions, slowly pulled the letter from its weird "folded" state completely open. Finally, the hidden paragraphs appeared before him and Little Red Riding Hood's eyes—

"…Before X month X day, you must bring her into the white exhibition hall. Miracles and blessings await her there. The curse she suffers will be lifted, and she will be free in body and mind.

"We have arranged the ritual, and you need not worry about safety. Just as you care for those children, we also seek the most reliable and effective way to remove that vicious curse from the 'Fairy Tales.'

"We know your recent concerns, but people have misunderstood us a lot—there are indeed believers who have gone astray. Driven by the lure of power and foolishness, those idiots misinterpreted the envoy's intentions. Some even followed false envoys from the start, committing numerous evil deeds, causing our collective reputations to suffer, which is lamentable and unfair.

"But you have witnessed, there are also pure and benevolent envoys. We have shown you His power and intentions. You have heard and seen with your own ears and eyes. He truly bears no ill will, truly protects the children. He spoke to you through the unseen, and you acknowledged hearing Him, so you can put all your worries away.

"If you've made up your mind, then light the blank letter we left you, using the rose essence scented candle.

"Note: Don't buy the brand from 'Linglong Pavilion'; they are shameless forgers and deceivers, and the envoy's wrath will eventually fall upon such vile, greedy merchants.

"—The humble and honest, Angel's Servant."
