Dimensional Hotel

Chapter 245: New Life Starts with Civil Engineering

Yu Sheng pondered that the long-haired princess must have taken him for a wish-granting machine—just casually saying "turn the sky dark" as her request, she really had the nerve to say it.

But seeing the girl looking at him with eyes shining, he didn't have the heart to reject her outright and instead asked curiously, "Do you think I can handle such an outlandish task?"

"I heard from Erin that everything in this valley listens to you," the long-haired princess pointed to the little puppets running in circles at the edge of the square (don't ask why they are running), "you can even move mountains to make room for Little Red Riding Hood's Black Forest, so you should be able to turn off the daylight as well... right?"

She widened her eyes at Yu Sheng, and Yu Sheng widened his eyes at this super JK.

The super JK finally reacted: "Can't you?"

"I told you it wouldn't work," Little Red Riding Hood walked over from the side, looking helplessly at the long-haired princess, "and you just wouldn't believe me."

Seeing the disappointed looks on their faces, Yu Sheng glanced at the bonfire already set up on the square and the half-grown kids helping around, as well as the tiny figures running in circles at the edge (guess what they are running for), he started to feel uncomfortable. He raised his hand to interrupt Little Red Riding Hood: "Wait a minute, maybe it's not entirely impossible—let me think."

Then he looked up at the sky, pondering silently. Little Red Riding Hood and the long-haired princess didn't dare to speak and disturb him and just watched curiously from the side.

After a while, Yu Sheng squinted his eyes slightly, his gaze falling on the sky above the Black Forest at the end of the valley.

Then, the clouds started to spread over.

At first, only the thin clouds soaked in the rosy light above the Black Forest, but soon, clouds began forming all around the valley, becoming thicker and thicker like a curtain being drawn from between the mountains, gradually closing toward the center of the sky like a continuously shrinking nightfall.

Gradually, everyone noticed the changes happening in the sky. People on the square, both children and adults, stopped what they were doing and looked up in surprise at the "curtain" closing above them.

Yu Sheng suddenly felt someone grab his arm, it was Hu Li.

The changes in the clouds paused, but when Yu Sheng turned around, all he saw was a slowly blooming smile on Hu Li's face.

She happily turned her head, her golden-red eyes shimmering in the gradually dimming light: "Savior, you are so amazing!"

Yu Sheng also smiled, reaching out to pat Hu Li's head: "I just suddenly remembered that although I can't control the original 'ambient light' of the valley, the clouds merged from the fairy tale are controllable, pulling the curtains manually occasionally... isn't that much trouble."

The curtain continued to close, and an artificial night gradually descended.

Someone let out an exclamation.

The long-haired princess shouted to the crowd on the square: "Don't panic, don't panic! It's just a lighting adjustment! It's not raining, we're just turning off the sky to see the effect..."

Only then did the slightly tense crowd on the square relax, and then Yu Sheng heard someone by the bonfire shouting: "Leave a gap! Otherwise, it will be too dark—we are working here."

Yu Sheng quickly looked up at the almost completely closed clouds and left a cross-shaped opening in the middle of the clouds, just right to let a beam of "sunlight" fall onto the square.

Hu Li craned her neck to look at the sky, staring for several seconds before muttering: "Looks like a mushroom..."

Yu Sheng: "..."

Next, Hu Li pointed to the bonfire: "Savior, I want to help string the meat skewers!"

Yu Sheng remained silent, just quietly watching this Nine-Tailed Fox whose drool was about to drip onto her clothes.

Hu Li's ears instantly drooped: "I-I won't sneak a bite. They're all raw meat, slurp, eating too much raw meat, slurp, isn't good."

"I'd believe you if I were a ghost! You can't even resist eating meat when sent to buy a bottle of vinegar and come back with half, how can I trust you not to sneak a bite?" Yu Sheng ruffled the fur behind her ears messily, "If you really want to help, go play with the little ones with Erin. The kids really like you two."

Hu Li thought for a moment, finding it interesting, and happily nodded: "Okay, sure~"

Seeing this, Yu Sheng suddenly remembered something and hurriedly added: "Wait! Don't hang the kids on your tail and launch them out again... Low-altitude cruising is also not allowed, even if they cry to you!"

Hu Li's ears and tail drooped together: "Oh..."

After Hu Li walked away, Red Hat came over: "I suddenly feel like you're usually quite tired too..."

"Hu Li lacks common sense for living in this world, lately this has been much better, she can now go to the corner supermarket by herself," Yu Sheng sighed, "I didn't even dare to let her out alone before - last week I had a nightmare that she got lost and when she came back, she released an elephant from her tail, telling me she acquired a spirit beast while traveling, and then I had to take the elephant to apologize at the South City Zoo... Don't laugh, she could really do something like that."

"I'm laughing because I know she could do something like that," Red Hat said with a grin, "It reminds me of when the 'King' first arrived, we were most worried about it sending troops to raid the pet food store next to the orphanage for cat treats - luckily we later discovered it was reasonable. To be fair, this trait is not common in cats."

They chatted leisurely in the square, talking about how a nine-tailed fox from an alternate dimension gradually learned to survive in Boundary Land, about the numerous absurd yet amusing events that had happened at the orphanage, the city's strange and bizarre legends and their truths, and about the homework and exams they had to face the next day after tonight's fun - this time none of the kids could use "we don't really need to graduate" as an excuse to slack off...

As they chatted, Yu Sheng noticed another group near the "town". It was a convoy escorted by dozens of soldiers and knights, with the kingdom's flag bearing a cat's head on the foremost carriage. The flat carts that followed were filled with various items - elegant and rustic tables and benches, doors and windows from who-knows-where, sets of beds and bedding, wardrobes, sofas, chairs, beds...

Cart after cart of items crossed the valley, arriving at the "town," heading down the street in the dim twilight.

Yu Sheng was stunned, turning to Red Hat: "What's going on?"

"We're supposed to make this our new home," Red Hat said with a smile, "The orphanage is gone, and we couldn't take a lot of things with us, and we can't always ask the Special Service Bureau for stuff, so the King suggested sourcing goods from various 'subsets'. What you just saw were items taken from Snow White's castle..."

Yu Sheng listened in a daze, especially when he heard the words "we can't always ask the Special Service Bureau." He immediately exchanged a guilty look with the long-haired princess nearby - he couldn't bring himself to tell Red Hat that the long-haired princess suggested obtaining a "resettlement fee" from the Special Service Bureau for rebuilding the orphanage...

Of course, he was even more embarrassed to say that he doubled that amount, getting funds for two orphanages, with the travel agency and orphanage "splitting the loot"...

Though, this matter would probably be exposed soon.

"But speaking of which, at first, I thought some of you might choose to live in some of those fairy tale 'subsets'," Yu Sheng awkwardly changed the subject, "After all, those subsets are harmless now, and the castles and palaces look so grand. Overcoming psychological barriers, I think it would be pretty cool."

Upon hearing this, Red Hat gave him a strange look.

"Am I wrong?"

Red Hat looked exasperated: "You definitely didn't pay attention to the details when you fused the fairy tales, right?"

Yu Sheng: "...Indeed not, the situation was urgent back then, there was no time. I just pulled down the 'stages' connected to Anka Aela and 'welded' them to the valley and had to run fast."

"Just one look and you would know that those 'story stages' were fundamentally created for the 'story'. No matter how luxurious and rich the 'scenery' is, they are not suitable for real living," Red Hat sighed and explained helplessly, "There are bizarre and incongruous elements everywhere. Can you imagine that in Snow White's castle, half of the rooms are solid, and the staircases in the long-haired princess's tower are 70% misaligned? The whole Oz Kingdom has only three toilets, all built by Dorothy herself - and to be fair, they're good for exploration and tourism now, or for training newbies, but they still need some modifications."

Yu Sheng: "..."

He had not considered such details!

"The good news is, although those 'stages' are oddly designed and unsuitable for living, many items from inside can be utilized," Red Hat continued, "The King and I have checked. The things transported from the fairy tale 'stages' can serve as usable building materials and everyday items. We've initially brought over some urgently needed furniture and bedding, as well as stockpiled some building materials. In a few days, once everything is on track, Dorothy plans to set up a lumberyard in the Black Forest, and Snow White intends to send a Titan Giant back to continue dismantling her castle, aiming to turn it into a tourist relic within two months - I think there's some personal feeling involved, but she won't admit it..."

The girl chattered on, not realizing how much she had said.

After a while, she stopped, suddenly aware, looking slightly embarrassed at Yu Sheng, who was watching her with a half-smile: "Why are you looking at me like that..."

"Nothing, just feels nice," Yu Sheng smiled, "Sounds interesting. You can call on me to help with house building - after all, the construction team here will be leaving tomorrow, they've completed their tasks."

Red Hat: "Sure, you can help us reinforce the foundation. We not only need to build houses but also classrooms and playgrounds!"

"I can help build the houses too..."

"You reinforce the foundation for us!"

"Uh, I mean, I can also..."

"You reinforce the foundation for us!"

Yu Sheng sighed: "…Okay."
