Chapter 75 "Another Boundary City

Not long after, two more people appeared in Baili Qing's office.

One was the burly Song Cheng, and the other had already grey hair, looking to be over fifty.

The latter wore narrow-frame glasses, not tall and slightly overweight, looking like an ordinary office leader who had started to mix retirement.

Baili Qing looked up at the two men who came into her office and nodded slightly, "You've arrived quickly."

"Have you met the one called 'Yu Sheng'?" Song Cheng was the first to speak, "Looking at you... did you discover something?"

"I've had an extensive exchange with him, and the process diverged significantly from what I had anticipated. 'Yu Sheng' might be the most unique 'unnatural' individual I have ever encountered. But before we get into a detailed discussion, I want you to see something first."

As Baili Qing spoke, her gaze turned to the silver-haired man—the head of the classified management office: "Luo Zheng, close the door."

Luo Zheng immediately nodded, turned around, and shut the door of the office.

The moment he closed the door, an invisible suppression spread instantly throughout the room, as if a breeze was passing by. Where the breeze went, even the floating dust particles in the air seemed to fall into stasis.

Seeing this happening, Song Cheng tightened inside and mentally lamented "Alas," already retracting his plan of leaving work on time this afternoon.

After completing the "seal" of the office, Baili Qing quietly stood up and walked to the large French window aside.

This window was enormous, always covered with a layer of faint mist, within which the scenery constantly changed, clearly not the landscape that should exist in Boundary City. Sometimes it was undulating mountain ranges, sometimes endless forests, but most of the time it was a calm lake with no visible ripples, with a cottage standing quietly in the distance, enshrouded in the mist, hazy as if in a dream.

And as Baili Qing approached the window, the flowing mist outside quickly fell into stasis, and the changing scenery within the mist also slowly faded away.

Song Cheng and Luo Zheng watched the layer of mist with solemn expressions. After a few seconds of stillness, other things began to emerge from the mist.

Buildings, scattered and orderly rooftops, an unfamiliar cityscape—and a spreading red twilight.

"What is this?" Song Cheng asked subconsciously.

"This is what 'Yu Sheng' showed me. He said this is another 'Boundary City,'" Baili Qing spoke softly, her colorless eyes calmly fixated on the thin mist outside, while the scenes stored in her memory manifested and restored continuously within the mist, "He is obsessed with this place, and he has seen it."

A look of astonishment swept over Luo Zheng's eyes. He took off his narrow-framed glasses, wiped them on his shirt, and then stared at the floating lights and shadows outside the window: "Another 'Boundary City'?!"

"Yes, another one. And I vaguely sensed his emotions; he seems to believe... this is the 'normal' appearance that Boundary City should have," replied Baili Qing.

Both Song Cheng and Luo Zheng quieted down amidst their astonishment, eyes fixed uneasily on the so-called "normal" scenery outside the window.

Buildings dark enough to only reveal their edges lined up on the ground, with strange towering spires standing in the distance, sketching magnificent outlines. The mist filled the air, the rooftops, and towers seemingly arrayed like tombstones within the mist, and through it, the crimson twilight pierced, giving the entire sky a bizarre and dim texture, and as for the sunlight...

The blood-colored "sunlight" flowed like water through the city, swirling amongst the buildings, mixing with the twilight as it poured down from the rooftops, streaming and dripping off the eaves incessantly—pitter-patter, tick-tock...

Baili Qing's words reached Song Cheng and Luo Zheng's ears, sounding somewhat ethereal, "He said this is a peaceful seaside town with a very pretty sunset, where the red twilight spills into the sky like water and flows along the rooftops... "

"...That sounds quite poetic," Song Cheng spoke softly.

"Yes, that's what I thought when I first heard it," Baili Qing shook her head slightly, "until I realized—it's photorealistic."

"This cannot possibly be a 'location' that exists in reality," Luo Zheng said seriously, having shaken off the uneasiness and tension from witnessing the "unusual phenomena" and quickly regaining his composure, "There might be many planets with bizarre landscapes in the universe, but no matter how you look at this scene, it doesn't resemble a natural scenery. The light and shadows around those buildings, and the 'sunlight', their existence contradicts physical laws. They... look like they are melting."

"If I had to describe it, it's a bit like when a graphics card driver crashes during a game, rendering errors in the imagery," Song Cheng also analyzed while stroking his chin, and added another sentence, "I've seen it happen when my daughter plays games."

"This must be some kind of Exotic Realm," Luo Zheng said cautiously, "judging from the scene, it should be on a large scale, but lacking data and reference points, it's impossible to determine whether it's classified as 'Wilderness' or 'Kingdom'. Anyway, it's definitely not a 'Fortress'."

"It might also be an 'Anomaly'," Baili Qing said indifferently.

"An 'Anomalous' type of Exotic Realm?" Luo Zheng was somewhat surprised, frowning, "Like 'Fairy Tales' or 'Heroic Epics'? But it looks like an actual space..."

"An 'Anomaly'-type Exotic Realm would also form its own 'actual existence' in cognition. What I'm seeing is just the scene sketched out in Yu Sheng's mind, so we can't rule out the possibility that this scene is merely a 'memory' or a 'story'," Baili Qing shook her head, "The key point now is that regardless of the nature of this 'Exotic Realm', Yu Sheng believes it is another 'Boundary City'."

Song Cheng and Luo Zheng quieted down at the same time; the atmosphere in the office became particularly solemn.

There are countless Exotic Realms in this world, with many among them establishing contact with Boundary Land, even overlapping with it like numerous stars. However, no matter what, Exotic Realms are just that, and their overlapping points with the real world are extremely limited in scale. Since records began, there has never been an Exotic Realm that could point towards "another Boundary Land."

Song Cheng stood in front of the floor-to-ceiling window, staring intently at the city outside that was soaked and flushed with red flowing light.

To be fair, those dark city silhouettes and the "Boundary City" beneath his feet didn't have many similarities; at least he couldn't see it. He didn't understand why the person named "Yu Sheng" would feel it was another Boundary City, but there was one thing he did understand:

Different perspectives of observation can change the way the world appears.

To Algredians, the starry sky is filled with exquisite and orderly lines and patterns; the world to the Bamosa people is illuminated by both "light" and "magnetic fields"; Gyprolians can perceive the outlines of electric fields, while the ancient Wooden Gold Men embrace time in meditation and can even briefly foresee the future.

Humans are one of the races with the narrowest "field of vision" in this world. In the eyes of those gifted races, humans are both deaf and blind, so much so that less than one percent of the information in this vast world is "valid" for humans. Yet, at the same time, as long as they have suitable equipment or methods, the human mind can process almost all "knowledge," and their capacity to bear and adapt to information beyond their perception is absurdly high.

That is why humans are universally recognized as the "Innate Investigator Holy Body" among all races in the world.

"The world he sees is different from the world we see," Song Cheng suddenly said.

"Yes," Baili Qing didn't deny it, but added, "but he is also able to live well in our world, with just a bit of awkwardness."

"At the same time, he has both human and... 'non-human' dual perspectives? Or should I say, two 'cognitive systems'?" Luo Zheng slightly furrowed his brow, pondering, "From your contact with him, do you think he is an 'entity' or a 'human'?"

"More like a human, at least that's what he believes he is now," Baili Qing turned her head, and at the same time, gently tapped the glass of the floor-to-ceiling window. As her voice fell, the "scenery" outside the window collapsed and shrank dramatically before returning to the calm state before, with fog swirling and mountains and waters alternately appearing, "I think it's best not to disturb this 'status quo'—until we can determine what No. 66 Wutong Road and 'Yu Sheng' really are."

"I understand," Song Cheng took a light breath, nodding gravely, "So what's next..."

"Next, a part of Team Two will be diverted to handle affairs related to No. 66 Wutong Road and 'Yu Sheng'. The first thing is to do some registration."

"Registration?"

"The two 'people' with him need legal identities," Baili Qing spoke unhurriedly, "Secondly, it seems he himself has the intention to register as a... 'Spirit Realm detective.'"

Song Cheng: "...Huh?"

"He says he wants to maintain order in Boundary Land and confront both Exotic Realms and entities."

Song Cheng: "...Huh?"

"I know what you're 'huh'ing about," Baili Qing lifted her eyelids to glance at Song Cheng, "The Special Service Bureau has always dealt with ridiculous matters, go arrange it—choose someone sharp and reliable to take care of this issue, those two mentioned in the last report look pretty good."

Song Cheng's expression was subtle: "I've just given them a three-day break..."

Baili Qing thought for a moment: "That's true, under these circumstances they do need rest—just arrange it, but don't delay for too long."
