Mantle of the Gods [LitRPG / Slow Burn / FTB Harem]

Book 10A - The Auction - Chapter 44

My next question was if there was only one way out.

The crashing wall on the other side of the room answered that question for me.

"Kara! We're leaving!" I reached for the purple core but stopped. Touching a Mantle would initiate a fight for control of it. As a Godborn, I could claim a Dungeon, and I had no clue if the rules applied to this one or not, but if it did, then the Cult wouldn't rest until I was dead so they could take it.

"Ella! Grab the core!" I prayed that the golden man I was focused on was a low Tier.

I pulled out my spellgun and pulled the trigger.

A bolt of electricity shot out of the handgun and washed over the man. His eyes went wide as he dropped. That was when I realized that he wasn't wearing a CB.

It had been hard to tell at first, given that they were all wearing formal clothes, but the knives and hammers that they pulled out of their jackets were not being held by hands that had on CBs.

These people were Mundane.

The other three tried to rush me. I shot another one, and then Kara was in front of me with her sword out. She used the flat of her blade to disarm them and the pommel to knock them out.

It was over in seconds.

The auction floor wasn't so lucky.

I looked at the screen and saw that it was a full-blown brawl. Fooda was defending Hogo from a woman in a red feathery dress. Therus was pounding on a dead man, and others were using the chaos to stab people in the back. Flashes were everywhere, and I was starting to dread that by the end of this, someone was going to be Tier Six.

Two Minotaur ran into the room, and these had CBs.

"FOR WURN!" The one in the lead shouted as he lowered his head to charge.

Kara intercepted him, and this time she used her blade. She cut him across the left side of his face, twisted behind him, and cut the back of his left hoof.

The lead Minotaur stumbled as the tendon split. He rolled into the desks, burying himself under the chairs in front of them.

My bodyguard's easy win had distracted her enough that the second bull gored her in the right shoulder. The ivory woman screamed as he took her to the ground.

I fired at the first Minotaur as he tried to stand, but my shots just washed over him with no effect. These two were out of my league, but that didn't mean that I couldn't fight back.

I switched my clip from electric to one of the stone ones I'd brought. Each shot cost me half the mana to cast the spell normally, but this was sort of allowing me to use skills when the use of skills and spells was blocked.

I aimed for his eyes. It was fighting dirty, but with his increased defense, I was only going to be able to hurt the softest places on his body. If I could blind him, then maybe Kara stood a chance.

The Minotaur roared as my first shot found its mark. He covered his face with his hands as he fell to his left knee. That was as tall as he could stand because of the ruined ankle. I found myself thankful that Minotaurs didn't wear shoes; otherwise, what Kara had done wouldn't have worked.

"I'm going to wear your innards as a necklace while I make you watch me eat your eyeballs!" The half-blinded Minotaur roared. "WURN TAKE YOU!"

"Wurn is dead." I walked over to where Kara was wrestling with the second Minotaur. "I was there when my father exorcised his ghost." I tapped the bullman on the back of the head with my gun. "Hey."

The second Minotaur craned his head as he strained against the smaller woman. His eyes got wide when he realized he was looking down the barrel.

I pulled the trigger at point-blank range.

Kara had both of his arms, so all I had to do was dodge the horns as I lined up my second shot.

The blinded Minotaur released his grip on Kara, but the Scarlet wasn't finished fighting. A dagger appeared in her hands, and she plunged it multiple times into his chest. As he stumbled away from her, she twisted behind him and held the dagger against his throat.

"Don't kill them!" While I wasn't worried about Kara ruining a seal since she was just a regular class, if she leveled into Tier Three because she killed these two, then she wouldn't be able to go to the Cathedral. "The Cathedral."

That was all the information she needed to change her target to his shoulders, where she sliced something that made each of them go limp.

I was about to congratulate myself when I was reminded of the most important rule of fighting multiple enemies.

Don't take your eyes off them.

A chair crashed into me and sent me skidding across the floor until I hit the wall on the other side.
