X1.7.lore - Encyclopedia Infinita

ENCYCLOPEDIA INFINITA

This section appears at the end of each Act (For example at the end of X1.4 – The Gifts). It includes additional info and lore, enriching the story. Think of it as extra reading for those who want a deeper understanding of the world of the story. It also allows the author's writing schedule not to slip out of control with the publication schedule.

Mr. Briteside

Mr. Briteside is a Shadow of middle rank. His real name is unknown, 'Briteside' being a nickname that was given by Jumpers who had the displeasure of crossing paths with him. He is easily recognizable by the smiling white mask he wears on his face, cracked by Roa during their fight in Grayshroud. He is often seen with three other bodyguard Shadows, much stronger than him, who tend to act as his protectors when he is unable to beat an enemy. Mr. Briteside's interactions with the Sunflower hints to more than just a surface connection, but a potentially long history. Most likely responsible for his most recent reset, as well as his separation from his lover, Eralay, Mr. Briteside is Roa's greatest nemesis, second only to the Lord of the Worlds.

The Gates of the Palace

In the Everago, the Lord of Lords who rules from above, over countless worlds, floors and rooms of the Palace, chose to shut down the way up the endless labyrinth. Ever the cunning, the Lord chose several of his greatest, most powerful men, to guard points within World 1, strategic points known within the remaining primordial records of the Ambrosians as the Throats of the Palace. These chokepoints are funnels where travelers must pass through to reach the next level of the labyrinth. Of course, given the right Exits, one is able to bypass such bottlenecks, but the Lord, being the most cunning of all, has somehow also shut down the Exits that lead from one set of Palace Floors to the next, effectively separating vast swaths of people within their respective prisons.

The Gates are said to be of immense strength and aura, although their true powers rest in their control over creatures of monstruous energy. These beasts are called the Abominations, and guard the way up and down the Palace.

The Lord's Gaze

The energy in the air becomes putrid, the aura felt is immense, preceding a sight of horrendous nature, the Lord's All-Seeing Gaze is one of the Patriarch's abilities. Peering into the many worlds he calls his own, the Lord who sits upon the Throne of Thrones judges what he sees with his jealous stare. No one knows how he is able to produce such a power, but is said that his gaze has also been seen in worlds outside of Default World. Some sects within Free Society have turned the Patriarch into some sort of deity to worship, believing that the Lord's Gaze is proof that the Patriarch and the Dreamer are one and the same. The Gaze manifests numerous eyes of many shapes and proportions, appearing on the ground, on surfaces like walls, as well as in the sky.

Tanoó Tenaglia

Tanoó is a Jumper from an unknown world. He is said to be very old and was involved in the failed revolution at Black Fortia prior to the Gates closing up the Palace floors. He is a racoon dog who is able to speak human languages and wield his aura with great precision. He is known for his mastery of Ditto's Gift, making him the second-greatest shapeshifter in Free Society, second only to his teacher, Ditto Dettagli. Tanoó is an old friend of Roa's from times long lost prior to his reset. The racoon dog is known for his soft-spoken tone, kind mannerism and warm personality. Among the Gifts the Jumper has mastered are Heal, Ditto's, and Pan's Gifts. He is said to be among the strongest Jumpers, although the closing of the Palace floors has made comparison among all fighters practically impossible in the current era.
