Royal Princess of Blood

Vol. 5 Chapter 18: This is Frustrating

During the night, to sleep, I had to lean my back on a rock. Needless to say, it was not the most comfortable position. But not like I had any other choice, even our sleeping gear was with the others. You see now how this fucking sucked? I had nothing! I disdained this situation deep in my heart. I was a princess, and a modern young woman in the old world, nothing could get worse than ending up with nothing.

At any rate, being that I was basically exhausted, I had a deep ass sleep. Fortunately, Nira didn't try to attack me in my sleep. Yeah, despite her being my crewmember, there was still the worry of her attacking me during the night.

I was incredibly endearing to the Cursed Children, even more so during the night. Nira may have some strong will, but you'd never know what could happen. I didn't need to worry when I was with the rest of the crew, as they'd be there to help me out in case that ever happens. But this time, I was on my own to deal with Nira.

I would prefer not to fight off a cursed child in my weakened state. As long as Nira stays a good girl, there should be no problem.

Currently, we were moving out. To be honest, my body was a bit sore after that uncomfortable sleep. Damn, and I just used healing magic on my body last night. Well, I should be able to endure a little bit of soreness.

I stepped down on a rocky surface, making sure to be more careful so I wouldn't slip and fall and end up with an injury. We had been walking for a while now, and I was already getting tired. Incidentally, I had saved up some cooked worm meat wrapped in my handkerchief, stored in my pockets. Really couldn't just go without any food, you know.

Things were going peacefully, just some casual strolling, I could even hum while I was bored. It was a good way to distract myself from how messed up the situation was. And, hiking was pretty fun itself. But that was all cut off when I sensed something approaching.

Nira and I paused and fell silent, listening closely to whatever sound was coming. I sensed the ground beneath us tremble slightly in intervals, like footsteps. Whatever it could be, it must be big. At any rate, if it was big, then we should get out of here and find some place to hide and get out of the way.

I gestured to Nira for us to go. As she couldn't do any stealth normally, I urged her to just float, waving my hand upwards slowly. She understood what I was saying and half her body turned into a fog. The ground was a bit hard to walk in stealthily, with all the pebbles and ground being uneven. One slight mistake, and the pebbles would just go all rolling down. It would be a bit different for humans, but a monster with possibly animal-like senses hearing this, that might be bad.

I stepped forward with silent steps, avoiding the dangerous-looking pebbles. Nira, meanwhile, floated next to me. Once the rumbling on the ground grew a bit stronger, and the stomping sound a bit more audible, I realized where it was coming from.

Dammit.

It was coming in front of us. Even if we continued to move forward, we'd still encounter it. Once it seemed like it was getting closer, I climbed up the hill and hid in a recess with Nira, crouching down in the shadows. Nira also crouched behind me.

A short while later, the sound of thudding on the ground became clearer. Judging from the sound, it must be carrying a lot of fucking weight. Once it seemed like it got even closer, I slightly shifted myself into the wall, calming my breathing.

The thuds on the ground grew louder and louder. And then, a shadow was cast over us.

Holy shit, really is a fucking giant.

It slowly went past us, and holy shit. It was as tall as a four story building, a bipedal creature. Its body was on a muscular side with gray fur. And it had the head of a fucking goat, long horns and all.

A fucking goatman or something?

Nothing gets creepier than that.

It seemed to be minding its own business, just mindlessly walking. But then it stopped.

Ah shit.

It was the moment I became a bit worried. I roughly had an idea of where this was going. The goatman sniffed. Ah shit. It would seem it had already smelled us. I was hoping it would ignore us, considering us as mere trifles. It sniffed a few times before slowly turning its head at us. Instantly, it threw its fist with three fingers at us. But not before we got out of the way.

I landed back on the surface ground as debris and dust scattered from where we were hiding. The spot was basically pulverized.

Are you kidding me?!

This was why I hated beast-like opponents. They can smell shit. My skills were honed with humans in mind, but never beasts like this, with a strong sense of smell. It was just ridiculous. It was a nice try to hide, but apparently, there was just no way to beat something with that big of a nose!

Now there were a couple of options here. Fight it, or try to escape. The best option was the latter, of course. With its size and thus slower speed, we should be able to slip through. We were just faster. But damn, this was one ugly fuck.

It stomped its feet, breaking the ground he stood on. Yeah, I should be faster than it, same case for Nira. We were smaller, way smaller.

"Nira, we're running past that thing. Follow me close."

Or you know she could fly up, but then she'll still need to follow me.

All the same.

I poured mana into my legs, not too great. Just the ample amount that would give me the speed I needed. Any more would only put a strain on me. I shifted a leg back and looked for any passageway through the monster. I could go between the legs, or at the side. However, judging from its stance, it seemed to be incredibly alert on its legs. From how it stomped, it could move its legs pretty well. Well, aren't goats pretty good at running and climbing and stuff? They could climb the side of a cliff if they wanted, like the mountain goats… In short, goats were great with their legs.

True, this was not exactly a goat, but those legs looked pretty threatening. I could sense it through my instincts. That I had to be careful on that part.

I sprinted swiftly going to its side. The goatman roared as I jumped out the side of the hill to avoid its legs. It had to swing its fist towards me. I launched myself off the side of the cliff as its fist crashed on where I was.

I moved past it and landed back to the ground. I continued sprinting in swift speed. But then I heard a loud crashing sound before there was a loud whooshing sound. Like a big projectile was hurling towards me— I dodged sideways and stopped just in time before a gigantic piece of rock crashed into the path ahead of me, blocking my way. Holy shit, if I didn't stop, I would have been splattered.

That being said, I could still scale up this thing. But where did that thing even get this from?! There was no time to ponder that as I heard loud, rumbling, running footsteps swiftly approach. I turned around to see the monster was already so close.

Eh?

I was shocked. It stomped down its foot at me, and I had to use a burst of wind to move myself out of the way. I covered my face from the flung debris and dust.

This fucking goatman!

To think it could run that fast despite its fucking size! Its legs truly were something I shouldn't underestimate. I quickly jumped up and hung high on the side of the cliff. This was becoming annoying. Monsters in this place were a murderous bunch that comparing me to them would make me look like a true kind angel… Okay that may or may not be true… Still, they were deadly predators that wouldn't let you go easily.

Fuck it. I'm just gonna kill you.

I drew one medium dagger and poured magic into it. I lifted up my body just as the monster smashed its fist towards me. I landed on its hand, grabbed another dagger filled with magic, and propelled myself up its arm while spinning. On the way up, I slashed its arm, my blade slicing its flesh so easily, and came with it small magical slashes. It all happened in a moment, blood burst out of its wounded, shredded arm.

It roared before shifting away. It swung its other arm at me, but I dodged it and landed on a cliff.

You may be a giant, but don't underestimate me. You just made yourself a bigger target.

As long as I avoid landing back on the ground, I should be completely fine. Or to be specific, avoid its legs. It swung its arms again, and I leaped away, only managing to slash its arm twice as I did so. I stabbed my blade into the side of the cliff.

At least I took out one of its arms, it was shredded so it couldn't easily use it to attack. Still, I needed to find a way to slow it down to land a decisive strike. I looked at its knees.

Then take out its strongest suit.

"Nira!" I shouted as the monster swung its arm at me again. I landed in another spot as Nira appeared before me. "Cover its eyes. I'm going for its legs. Use your fog."

"Got it."

I immediately proceeded to lower my elevation and moved to a spot where I could easily strike the legs cleanly. The monster's attention was focused only on me after I inflicted it with terrible wounds. That gave Nira the chance to move into its face in her fog form and covered its eyes. The monster was baffled, and quickly lifted its arms to its face.

But that was the opportunity for me. I may only have a second, but that was all I needed.

With a burst of wind, I launched myself towards the back of its knee. Once it was in reach, I spun and slashed the back of its knee, while sending a power arc of light, cleaving halfway to its knee. It must have hit the bone.

The monster cried in pain as it slowly kneeled on one leg. It shoved Nira's smoke off its eyes, but at the same time, I threw a dagger into its eye, unleashing an explosion of slashes. I pulled the dagger from its ruined eye by the magic string as I threw another to its arm. I pulled myself through the string and slashed its arm several times with incredible speed as I went.

While I fell in the air, I threw a dagger at its back and used the string to pull myself into it like a grapple. Once I got close, I slashed the back of its neck. Continuing with my swinging momentum in the air, I threw a 'grapple' at its shoulder and reeled myself past its front neck. I spun in the air, sending a wide and powerful slash of light. The slash hit deep into its neck.

It fell backwards to the ground. But it was still alive and upright. I used a short burst of wind to propel myself towards its forehead before throwing my pair of daggers at it. Once the daggers were embedded, a burst of slashes destroyed its forehead. When it completely fell to the ground, I landed on its chest, directing a glare at it.

"That's right, you're fucking nothing. You think you can just fuck with me without consequences?" I stomped my foot in irritation. No, in anger.

Fuck you! Don't dare get in my way again!

"This is what you deserve." I stomped my foot again, bruising its flesh. "You deserve to fucking die."

No one gets in my way. No one gets to harm me and gets away with it.

I stomped my foot again and again.

Not even a giant could stop me, could kill me. Nothing! Even a giant I'd destroy if it sought to harm me.

I'm tired of dealing with everyone's shit.

So everyone and everything can just fuck off.

While I was heaving both because of my emotions and fatigue, Nira came up behind me.

"Goddess…?"

I paused and slowly turned towards her. "… It's nothing… I'm fine."

I jumped off the giant corpse. And then I suddenly started coughing.

"Will you be alright, goddess?"

"Just a cough. Let's keep going onward."

"... Y-Yes."
