The rumbling beneath their feet grew, the ground trembling violently as cracks began to spiderweb across the battlefield. Adrian and Medea barely had time to brace themselves when the earth beneath a group of enemy soldiers split open, swallowing them whole into the abyss.
Screams echoed as the ground closed back in, leaving nothing but silence in its wake.
"Hello, sister! Hello, hubby!" came a sultry, teasing voice from above.
Adrian's eyes snapped upward, immediately recognizing the familiar tone of mischief. A whirlwind of spinning blades tore through the enemy ranks, dismembering soldiers with horrifying precision.
The vortex moved like a storm, cutting through armor and flesh with ease, leaving a trail of bodies in its wake until it finally came to a stop a few meters from Adrian and Medea.
The spinning blades slowed, revealing Lilith, her eyes gleaming with amusement as she stood with her signature mischievous and seductive grin. Her dark hair fluttered in the wind, her armor gleaming in the flickering light of the battlefield.
"I guess we were kind of late," Lilith remarked, a playful smirk dancing on her lips as Ava and Selene approached, their horses thundering to a halt beside her.
Adrian let out a breath he didn't realise he'd been holding. "What are you three doing here?" he asked, even though he sounded relieved. "Not that I'm complaining."
"We'll explain later," Selene said calmly, her gaze was fixed on the battlefield.
Lilith gave a soft, amused chuckle, brushing a lock of hair behind her ear. "Oh come on, love. Don't act like you didn't miss me." Her eyes sparkled with mischief as she sauntered over to Medea. "I mean, I'm sure Medea is great company, but three goddesses are better than one." she finished with a wink. "Plus the priestess too, obviously." she added as an afterthought.
Medea didn't even glance at her. "Skip the flirting, Lilith," she said coolly, stepping forward to assess the remainaing soldiers. "We've got a battle to finish."
Lilith pouted dramatically, though the amusement never left her expression. "Always so serious, dear sister. You know, Adrian doesn't seem to mind a little fun during a fight. I saw the way he was checking you out earlier. Just saying."
Adrian groaned, rolling his eyes. "Lilith, can we focus? Please?"
"Oh, fine." Lilith sighed dramatically, but the playful light in her eyes didn't dim. She drew her twin blades, the dark metal catching the light as she twirled them effortlessly. "Let's clean this mess up, shall we?"
Medea's expression softened slightly, though she didn't smile. "Try not to burn down the entire battlefield."
"No promises," Lilith shot back with a wink before turning toward the approaching soldiers. Her smile widened. "But I'll try."
Ava and Selene quickly joined Medea at her side, readying themselves for the oncoming battle. Adrian glanced at them briefly before turning his attention to the bald man who had ushered them into Brenden the day before.
The man stepped forward from the enemy ranks, his dark eyes gleaming with challenge as he discarded his weapons, cracking his knuckles with a confident smirk.
"We do this the old-fashioned way, warrior," the bald man declared in a low and threatening tone. "No weapons. Just our fists."
Adrian raised an eyebrow but let his chains retract and sword fall away. "You sure about that?" he asked, flexing his fingers. He had faced many enemies before, but this man carried an aura of arrogance and strength that set him apart from the others.
The man simply smirked, his stance wide and ready. "You rely too much on your magic, Adrian. Let's see if you can fight like a real warrior."
With a nod, Adrian dropped into a stance, his muscles tensing as the air around them seemed to still. The battlefield faded into the background as the two men faced off, their gazes locked in silent challenge.
As they circled each other, Adrian could feel the tension in the air. Every step the bald man took was calculated, predatory.
Then, without warning, the man lunged forward, his fist aimed straight for Adrian's chest. Adrian sidestepped, barely avoiding the blow, but the speed and strength behind it caught him off guard.
He retaliated with a quick jab to the man's ribs, but the bald man blocked it effortlessly, following up with a vicious uppercut that clipped Adrian's jaw.
The force sent him staggering back, his vision momentarily blurred by the blow.
Shaking his head to clear the dizziness, Adrian refocused. This was no ordinary opponent. The man was faster, stronger than anyone he had faced without his magic.
But Adrian was not one to back down.
He darted forward again, this time feinting to the left before delivering a powerful right hook to the man's jaw. The bald man grunted but barely flinched, countering with a knee aimed at Adrian's stomach.
Adrian blocked it just in time, but the impact still forced the air from his lungs.
Meanwhile, on the battlefield, Lilith, Medea, Ava were facing the remaining army. The three women were a deadly trio, their movements synchronized as they carved through the enemy ranks with terrifying precision.
Lilith spun and slashed with her twin blades, her laughter ringing through the battlefield as she toyed with her enemies, dancing just out of their reach before delivering lethal strikes. "Oh, this is fun!" she exclaimed, her eyes flashing with wicked delight.
Medea fought with quiet, deadly efficiency, her dark fire blazing as she dispatched soldiers with swift, brutal strikes. Her sword moved like a blur, cutting down anyone foolish enough to get too close.
Ava, ever the pragmatist, fought with calm precision, her movements calculated as she struck down enemies with deadly accuracy. She wielded her spear with grace, thrusting and parrying with practiced ease.
Back in the duel, Adrian was starting to feel the strain of the fight. His muscles ached, his breath coming in ragged gasps. The bald man showed no signs of slowing down, his strikes as powerful as they were relentless.
But Adrian had something his opponent didn't—he had the power of the goddesses, three of them, flowing in him.. As if sensing his thoughts, Lilith's voice drifted over the battlefield.
"Need a hand, love?" she called, her voice teasing.
Adrian grinned despite himself, sidestepping another punch from the bald man. "I've got this."
Lilith's laughter rang out again, and Adrian could feel the fire in his chest reignite.
'Okay,' he said to himself. 'Time to be serious.'
