“What’s on this island?” Yang Yi asked coldly. The only reason he hadn’t shot Hu Wei on the spot was to ask that question. “If I tell you… will you let me go?” Hu Wei sat slumped on the ground, barely able to raise his head to look at Yang Yi. “You can trust me,” Yang Yi said, lowering the barrel slightly. “Liar! Those eyes of yours scream ‘murderer’!”Hu Wei coughed, every word sounding like it cost him strength. Yang Yi frowned. Truth was, he hadn’t planned to let Hu Wei live anyway. “You’re strong—I admit defeat. No need to dirty your hands.”Hu Wei gave a hoarse, chilling laugh, his mouth full of blood.“As for what’s on that island… I’ll leave it for you to find out yourself.” “What do you mean?” Hu Wei didn’t answer. Instead, he pulled a kitchen knife from behind his waist. Yang Yi instantly aimed his gun, finger tightening on the trigger—but he didn’t fire. Because Hu Wei… had already killed himself. He was decisive—using his last strength, he plunged the knife into his own throat without a hint of hesitation. This guy… really was ruthless! Even though his vision blurred, Hu Wei’s death still triggered a system log. 【You have died. Oath prerequisite mission failed. Completion rate: 6/10…】 Two glowing orbs dropped beside his body—loot from a player’s death. Yang Yi bent down to collect them, but something felt wrong. He heard a faint rustling, as if countless tiny creatures were crawling around. The sound was coming—from Hu Wei’s corpse. The next second, the body twitched violently. Then, countless fingernail-sized spiders poured out of his wounds and orifices. What the hell—?! 【You are frightened. Sanity -5】 Yang Yi pulled the trigger on reflex—this time switching to the high-power cannon mode. BOOM! The blast was immense! Hu Wei’s corpse—and even the cabin door behind him—were obliterated. The hull burst open, sunlight pouring in. Yang Yi was thrown backward by the recoil, slamming into a wall. “What are you doing? He’s already dead!” Suna rushed over, face tight with disapproval. That shot had nearly blown a hole into her beloved witch’s lab. “He had spiders inside him—a lot of spiders!” Yang Yi explained quickly. Even thinking about what he’d seen made his skin crawl. In his nightmare earlier, his fate had been exactly the same as Hu Wei’s! But how could spiders come out of a human body? Suna looked over at the blasted wreckage. “Spiders? Where? I don’t see any.”She looked around. “There—over there!” Yang Yi pointed at a pile of debris—but then froze. He was certain—absolutely certain—there had been spiders crawling there just a second ago. Tiny, but clearly visible. Now, the ground was empty. Only chunks of meat, splintered wood, and splattered blood remained. “I swear I saw them…” Yang Yi muttered. “Forget it. Do you even realize your arm’s dislocated?” Yang Yi’s left arm was hanging uselessly—his shoulder joint had been knocked out of place by the recoil. Luckily, Suna had medical training.Though she wasn’t an orthopedist, she was a rare all-rounder. With a few practiced movements, she reset his shoulder joint back into place. Yang Yi, still scanning the ground, muttered, “No, that’s impossible. I definitely saw spiders…” Then his nose tickled. He wiped it, noticing a trickle of blood—probably from the shock of the recoil. But the itching wouldn’t stop. It felt like something crawling inside. Unable to bear it, he dug at his nostril—and pulled out a tiny black spider, no bigger than a grain of rice. 【A spider crawled out of your body. Sanity -10】 Startled, Yang Yi crushed the spider instantly, then checked his nose again. Thankfully, no second one followed. “There was a spider! When did you breathe that in…?” Suna crouched and picked up the crushed remains. “Breathed it in?” Yang Yi frowned. It didn’t feel that simple. The spider had definitely come from inside his body. He immediately checked his status. Status: Injured (A translucent human diagram appeared, with his back and left arm marked pale yellow.)Sanity: 85 / 100Stamina: 94 / 100Health: 93 / 100 Everything seemed normal—except for a new entry hidden beneath his talents. 【Spider’s Kiss — A gift from the Spider Mother. Occasionally, spiders will crawl from your wounds. Don’t worry—you’ll get used to it soon!Unlocks Oath prerequisite mission. Spider-type abominations’ hostility toward you: -100%.】 “When did this appear?” He quickly checked his activity log. 【You acquired ‘Spider’s Kiss’.】 Judging by the timestamp—it had triggered at the exact moment Hu Wei died! “When he died… the status transferred to me?”Yang Yi narrowed his eyes. Suna, unafraid of spiders, walked into the sunlight to examine the tiny corpse. But the moment sunlight touched it—it evaporated into thin air. Yang Yi noticed too. He stepped forward, grabbing Suna’s hand. “It just—disappeared?” “Let go, you’re hurting me!”Suna protested, yanking her hand back. Yang Yi ignored her, thoughts racing. This condition was absolutely tied to Hu Wei’s death. And when he died… a new inheritor appeared. “Suna, check your status screen! See if you have anything called ‘Spider’s Kiss’!” She did as told, then shook her head.“No such thing.” So the curse only affected him. And thinking of Hu Wei’s recent actions… the truth was almost clear. This Spider’s Kiss was connected to that island! “Let’s get out of here. I used cannon mode—the cooldown’s twelve hours. And the Nyxstar's hull has a huge hole ◆ Nоvеlіgһt ◆ (Only on Nоvеlіgһt) now. It needs repairs!” Suna nodded, helping him gather the spoils. The matter of the spiders could wait. First, they had to secure the battlefield. Hu Wei’s two glowing orbs were recovered—though one rolled into the sea. The remaining loot: 1,250 Conch Coins, and a Fire-Cocoon Jacket recipe. 【Fire-Cocoon Jacket — Requires 100 units of Fire-Cocoon Spider silk. (An adult Fire-Cocoon Spider yields 8–12 units of silk.)】 So the “Fire-Cocoon Grass” Hu Wei mentioned had been total nonsense. That island must have Fire-Cocoon Spiders! What surprised Yang Yi even more—was that players could drop recipes upon death. Then he turned to look at Suna. She had a special talent—one that could *create unique formulas. If she died… would those recipes drop too? That would make her a huge target. “Suna. Don’t sell or give away any potions you make.” “Oh? So I’m supposed to let you drink them all?” she said dryly. “Uh… we’ll talk about that later”Yang Yi muttered, remembering that terrifying “Overdrive Elixir” she’d brewed—and suddenly feeling queasy. After cleaning up the scene, they recovered three items in total: 【Name: Webbed Gloves】Type: TreasureQuality: FineDescription: Increases grip strength. Lets you climb walls and prevents stickiness from spider silk.Yes—with these, you can literally run on walls! 【Name: Gourmet Chef’s Knife】Type: RelicQuality: RareDescription: A sharp kitchen knife. Yang Yi picked up the thirty-centimeter-long chef’s knife. “So anything cut by this knife becomes… delicious?” He made a strange face—because even the air around it seemed to carry a faint, sweet aroma.
