Skill Extraction: Exploring Dungeons

Chapter 278 Danger

Perhaps it was due to the snowstorm, the road leading to the town had extremely clear horse tracks on the thin layer of snow.

Amidst the snowstorm, there was a language that Kane could not understand, seeming to be used by those insane humans.

Sneaked into an alley.

Approached the source of that sound.

Cautiously looked over.

Only saw four light cavalry soldiers, wearing light armor, riding on warhorses, with several dried heads tied to their saddles.

The armor on these knights was also covered in bloodstains and a faint stench.

Behind the knights, there were two teams of infantry, twelve people in total.

Among them, eight had bows on their backs and crossbows hanging from their waists.

They stood in orderly formations, and a light cavalry soldier on a warhorse was conversing with the town's administrator.

It was clear that these humans had already fallen into madness, yet they still retained some form of social system, their madness seemed to be only directed at relatively normal people.

And now, in this space, the only normal people were Kane and his companions.

The reason why regular soldiers suddenly came to the town almost confirmed they were here to trouble Kane and the others.

Kane and his companions had been rampaging in this town for six days, it must be that someone went to the central city to call for reinforcements.

These soldiers carried the emblem of that city.

It was identical to the emblem on the map that Kane had marked in the central city.

The conversation seemed to have finished, and the town's administrator led the soldiers into a building amidst the snowstorm.

Seeing them leave, Kane disappeared into the night.

Hearing a faint howl from outside, Kreya moved aside the obstruction at the cave entrance.

The giant wolf shook off the snow and entered the cave.

"You're back, how did it go? Did you discover anything?" Kreya asked Kane.

The wolf's face showed a very human-like expression of seriousness.

"We will leave as soon as the snowstorm stops in the morning, a group of regular soldiers have entered the town, four light cavalry, and quite a few ranged soldiers. Such forces are unbeatable for us now, once caught by them, our exploration would be over."

Upon hearing Kane's words, Kreya nodded seriously.

If it were just regular soldiers, it would be fine, because if we couldn't beat them, at least we could escape.

But with light cavalry on warhorses, it's dangerous, aside from Kreya having a slight advantage in speed, Kane might not escape being chased down.

Then, it would be dangerous.

Kreya blocked the cave entrance again, now the overnight blizzard restricted their nighttime actions, they could only rest well, to face the day in good condition.

...

"Ding!"

A crisp sound echoed from the cave.

Hearing this sound, Kreya and Kane were startled awake.

This was the alert trap Kane set up, the sound now indicated the trap had been triggered.

Kane rushed out of the cave, and Kreya picked up Lilu to follow closely.

The snowstorm outside persisted, but compared to the deep night, it had quieted down quite a bit, likely signaling the night was about to pass.

Kane stood in the snow, ears perked and twitching, trying to discern peculiar sounds coming from the distance amidst the howling winds.

The crisp sound of hooves, and the friction and clash of armor.

Kane could not have expected it.

Those soldiers who had just arrived in the town last night began searching the forest before the snowstorm even stopped.

The alert trap was triggered just now, likely discovered by these soldiers, not that he doubted his own trap, but he completely trusted Aiklonen's quality.

How could they make things easy for Kane and the others.

"Let's go, we'll head this way." After saying that, Kane led Kreya rushing in a direction.

There was no time to cover the obvious tracks behind them, now it was a race against life and death.

Soon, the sound of chasing hooves was heard from behind, indicating their escape tracks had been discovered.

Torches and various shouts pierced the cold wind howling through the forest.

Kane, who was running ahead, suddenly stopped.

Because he felt there were people ahead, the leader of these soldiers had surprisingly arranged for people to guard the main route outside the forest.

He sensed that these people had already formed a siege, surrounding Kane and his companions.

Now he had to find a weak spot to break through.

Kane perked his ears, carefully discerning the direction of the hoof sounds.

Most of the hoof sounds were coming from behind him and Kreya, those blocking their path were slower-moving infantry.

"There should be soldiers ahead of us. Let's quickly take them down and escape," Kane said.

Hearing Kane's words, Kreya nodded, and lastly, the two rushed towards the direction outside the forest.

Their position was in a relatively dense forest, with few areas to conceal their figures.

So they were heading towards the other side, which was where their previous hideout was located, there was a larger forest there, only in that place could they possibly avoid these soldiers' tracking.

After a few steps, they saw a guard holding a long spear and beside him a ranged soldier with a bow and crossbow.

Kane and Kreya directly dispersed, heading in for a pincer attack on the two soldiers.

The two soldiers clearly heard Kane and Kreya's charging sounds, cautiously observing their surroundings.

Using the padding under his feet, Kane stealthily approached the rear of the ranged soldier.

Then he lunged at the soldier's back, but due to the protective armor, Kane could not bite his neck, only managing to fiercely knock him to the ground.

Still, this was enough.

Without the threat of ranged attacks, Kreya immediately charged from the other side.

Facing the long spear coming at her, Kreya used her sword blade to slide aside the shaft, then rotated the blade and forcefully slashed at the soldier.

The sword tip cut into an unprotected area of the armor, blood spurted out.

The giant wolf behind the ranged soldier quickly turned into Kane's form, swiftly extended his hands to clasp the soldier's head and twisted it backward.

"Crack"

A sound of joints dislocating was heard.

The soldier struggling fiercely went limp on the ground, silent.

Kane quickly seized the bow and crossbow from the soldier, yet after pulling out only a few arrows, the rest turned into ashes along with the soldier.

Kreya likewise quickly took the long spear from the soldier in front of her to prevent it from turning to ashes.

Lilu swiftly slipped out from Kreya's embrace, grabbed the spoils, and scurried back into the backpack carrying supplies.
