Chapter 287: He Sacrifices... THE ROOK! Sheva Wins the Game!

Before the sacrifice…

"Oh! Oh! Look at this, Bagas!" Novendra, who acted as the commentator, suddenly shouted excitedly, which was enough to capture everyone's attention on the broadcast. "Sheva has a beautiful move here! Watch carefully!"

Feeling intrigued, of course, Bagas turned around at the screen. He was curious about what kind of move would make a GM with vast experience like Novendra so excited.

"See? In this position, Sheva could've just exchanged the dark bishop, and in the end, he would still get that pawn on the H file. However, that wouldn't give him any benefit. No, instead of doing that, he could sacrifice…." The man trailed his words behind while also showing the possible move on the board.

"…The rook…" Bagas finished the sentence, his voice barely a whisper. However, his dilated pupil was enough to show everyone around that this move ignited something inside the boy. "He sacrifices… The rook!"

Right after that, all the viewers echoed his statement with the same excitement. Since GothamChess popularized this, it was always an honor to see a rook sacrifice in the middle of the game, especially if it worked well for the one who did that. Now, Sheva had a chance to pull that shit, and all the viewers were waiting eagerly for him to notice that.

"Now, the question is, will he be able to see that?" Novendra added.

"Oh, I tell you, he will definitely notice that," Bagas answered with full confidence. Even though he didn't know how hard the move was to spot, the boy always had the confidence that Sheva would be able to see any tactical sacrifice that could possibly happen on the board. True enough, once the boy on the camera took the black's dark bishop with his rook, the smile on Bagas's face spread widely. "There it is, folks! Sheva sacrifices the rook! Now, his dark bishop would be reactivated, and it would be the most menacing sniper for Sheva's side."

Honestly, it couldn't be said to be a sacrifice, especially since Sheva would get back the opponent's rook in the next few moves. However, the chance to hype up the game with the most famous line in the chess world right now was too good to be let go, so both Bagas and Novendra didn't even think about it as they jumped into that boat.

After the sacrifice, Sheva tried to pry David Gavrilescu's defense open, maneuvering his light bishop and knight to get through the enemy's territory. However, it seemed that the Romanian GM didn't like to be pushed back like this. No, the man also moved his rook and queen to the kingside, ready to snipe Sheva's king whenever they had a chance. Hell, the man even sacrificed a whole light bishop so that he could get a battery of rook and queen on the H file, just one step away from starting their version of king's hunt.

Even though material-wise, Sheva was up to 5 points, the evaluation bar showed that the game itself was pretty equal. That showed how good David Gavrilescu's position was. However, Sheva himself was not worried about that. If anything, he grinned slightly, wanting to see how his opponent would proceed in this situation.

'My king is completely safe here, even having a specific route to escape if an attack is coming.' He muttered inwardly, feeling his own legs shaking under the table. 'Once his attack is done, it is my time to strike back! My advantage will be so great that he wouldn't be able to withstand it! Come on! This game is mine!'

However, it seemed that the God of Chess itself also took his side in this game. Before the attack from David Gavrilescu was done, the man suddenly abandoned the H file completely in order to shift the battery to the F file. Right after that, the evaluation bar moved up immediately, giving Sheva the +4.8 advantage.

"Oh! He finally crumbles!" Bagas roared, even knocking the chair that he used to sit on. "After playing for 35 moves, David Gavrilescu finally makes the first big mistake here! Sheva is on the verge of winning this game!"

Hilda99: Let's fucking go!!!

Hierro24: Fuck it! Sheva is a beast!

RonaldOSIu007: Wait, wait, wait! Don't celebrate too quickly! Sheva still has to make the best move here! Don't jinx it, please!

Hilda99: What the fuck are you talking about?! It is Sheva on the board, of course, no jinx will work on him!

"It is unfortunate for David Gavrilescu to make such a big mistake in this crucial moment." Novendra tried to be objective here. However, the excitement couldn't be hidden from his face, as the man was shaking right now. "His only attack is coming from the H file, preventing the king from getting there. However, it seems that he couldn't find a breakthrough from that file, so he decides to line up his rook and queen two files away. However, that way, Sheva's king has more room to breathe, and David's attack will be neutralized pretty quickly. The bishop sacrifice that he made earlier would be a waste, and now, Sheva is ready to bite back after defending for a while."

Yeah, with the bishop advantage on the board, Sheva didn't really need to overcomplicate things. Even though his king was still in an open place and under the threat of David's forces, at least, with more room to breathe, it could run away easily. Of course, Sheva didn't have to do that. Since the advantage was obvious on his side, the only thing he needed to do right now was to keep it simple.

First, the boy brought back his knight from the enemy's territory, then took advantage of that piece to maneuver his queen to the point that he forced two possible outcomes to happen on the board. It was either the queen trade happened, or Sheva checkmated David on the board. Neither of them was ideal, but David Gavrilescu was not in a position to make another choice here.

In the end, though, David Gavrilescu finally chose the third option, the one that all the Indonesian viewers had been waiting for.

He resigned, giving the Indonesian team the second point of the matchup.
