"HE HAS DONE IT!" Bagas roared, watching the game unfold before his eyes. "SHEVA HAS DONE IT AGAIN! OUR MIRACLE BOY, SLAUGHTERING ALL OF HIS OPPONENTS! THE GIANT SLAYER IS BACK!"
Hilda99: LET'S FUCKING GOOOOO!
Froggies: WHAT A BEAST! ADRIAN SHEVA! REMEMBER HIS NAME!
RonaldOSIu007: This is fucking insane… How could he do that….
The chat was a mix of excitement and disbelief, as no one could believe that Sheva could pull another miracle out of nowhere. They lost count of how many times Sheva had done this kind of miracle, and right now, the boy even had a lot of cool nicknames dubbed by the fans on the Internet. The Giant Slayer. The Fate Defier, The Miracle Boy. It seemed that he was probably the chess player with the coolest nickname in the world.
"With this win, Sheva extends his streak without losing to 17 games, probably the longest that any of our players has ever experienced in history," Medina added, somehow feeling smug. She was the one who fought so that the boy could play in this round, so this was the best way for the boy to repay the favor. "The last time he lost a game was against Gukesh Dommaraju in the Reykjavik Open last April, so he probably has forgotten the feeling of defeat by now, right?" She couldn't help but joke.
"In fact, that is probably not the most impressive thing that Sheva has done." Arfan also added, but with a solemn tone. "Idani Pouya, Niclas Huschenbeth, Aryan Chopra, Kirill Alekseenko, and now Wojciech Moranda. This is the fifth grandmaster with an ELO rating of 2600 or more that Sheva has beaten in the last three months, probably the most by any 2300-rated player in history. The nickname Giant Slayer couldn't be dubbed to a more suitable player here, I tell you that."
All the people in the commentary booth seemed to try to hype Sheva up here, and the boy really deserved that praise. What he had done, to put it simply, was a miracle. It was such a crazy thing for a 2300-rated player to beat a GM whose rating was 300 above him, and yet, Sheva did that on a daily basis.
If it was not insanity, no one knew how to describe Sheva's performance in the last few months.
"Oh, what is this?!" Bagas suddenly shouted once again, and his excitement brought everyone's attention to the screen once again. "A handshake is happening on board 4 of the women's game as well! Claudia is winning the game! It is as if she doesn't want to get left behind by Sheva! She secures the win against the WIM Andreea Navrotescu! Now, we both have a win for both men's and women's teams coming from board 4!"
On the women's team, Claudia had her face flushed red, and her heart was brimming with excitement. Even though this wasn't her first win in this tournament, it felt like the victory today was sweeter, especially since all of her teammates were struggling to deal with their opponents. Hell, even her big sister was getting pushed right now, and if Anna couldn't find a way to get out of that position, she would've been killed soon.
Now, Claudia felt like she was a heroine from her favorite story, saving the day when her teammates needed her to be. After shaking hands with her opponent, the girl rose from her chair, walking with her chest puffing out in pride.
"Ia! Here!" Suddenly, the moment she left the hall where the tournament was played, a familiar voice greeted her from afar. When the girl turned around, she could see Sheva waving his hand, inviting her to come in. "So, you have already finished your game? What a coincidence! I have also just finished mine! I didn't expect that we would finish it all at the same time like this. Here, have one." The boy offered a cold popsicle while he himself also had one in his hand.
"Thank you." Claudia accepted gratefully. It was always good to have one after a long chess game, and the moment the cold sensation slid through her throat, the girl could feel like her brain got cooled down instantly, and she couldn't help but let out a satisfied moan. "Anyway, why don't you ask me the result of my game?" She asked suddenly, finding it strange that Sheva didn't show any concern for her. Of course, the girl wouldn't admit that half of the reason here was that she wanted to brag about her win.
To her surprise, though, Sheva just shrugged nonchalantly at her. "Do I need to ask that question? Your radiant smile is enough to tell me how the game goes, by the way." Then, he suddenly smiled and patted her head fondly. "Good job. You make me proud, and I am sure as hell that Anna will be too."
Claudia felt heat rising through her cheek while her heart got warmed by Sheva's sudden action. While she might never admit it out loud, the girl missed how gentle Sheva would always treat her. That was probably one of the reasons why she acted like a jerk to him in the last couple of days. The girl was jealous that Anna got all of his attention, and those two really ignored her presence all the time. It seemed that she was overthinking here, as the boy was still the same as before.
"Wait, it shouldn't be like this!" She suddenly pouted, swatting the hand on her head as the girl realized something. "It should be that I brag to you about my win and surprise you, and in the end, you don't have a choice but to praise me to the sky and admit that I am good!"
Silence descended among those two as they stared at each other awkwardly. In the end, though, Sheva couldn't hold it back anymore, as he was the first one who burst out laughing at the girl's wild imagination.
"What?! What is so funny about that?!" She frowned, having both her hands on her hips.
"No, no, nothing. You are really great, Ia! You even beat your opponent faster than anyone else! You have done well!" Sheva, still having his shoulder shaking due to the amusement he felt, praised the girl. However, Claudia felt more dissatisfied, as this praise seemed to be not so genuine. If anything, it sounded like Sheva was trying to coax a little child here, which was definitely the opposite of what she wanted to achieve.
"Hmph! Whatever!" She pouted indignantly, throwing her face away with a sulking expression. "I want to see Big Sis's situation right now! Don't follow me, okay?! Bye!"
