My Demon Friends

Chapter 295: Club Activities

The psychological interview with Liu Zhengming concluded perfectly.

Zhou Li picked up the report and examined it. It was written in elegant semi-cursive script, its content profound and insightful, heartfelt and sincere. It detailed Liu Zhengming's psychological changes since starting university, his gratitude towards the dorm leader and the class representative of the neighboring class, as well as suggestions for the school.

Zhou Li put it into a drawer and locked it.

He checked the time; it was almost six. The dining hall would experience a rush around 6:10 PM, and club activities started at seven.

So Zhou Li sent Brother Nan a message, tucked the interview report inside a book he was carrying, and left.

Huai Xu followed him, asking, "What are you doing?"

"Getting food."

"I meant just now."

"An interview, a psychological interview."

"Is that like an interrogation?" Huai Xu asked, his tone subtly excited. "Want me to help? I'm good at this!"

"No, it's an interview."

"Oh, an interview. I have special interview techniques."

Zhou Li arrived at the cafeteria, got a serving of yuxiang eggplant and one of steamed egg, opting for only a small portion of rice, and sat in a corner.

Brother Nan soon joined him, her plate holding a serving of mushroom chicken, braised beef with potatoes, and an added marinated chicken wing. She laughed when she saw Zhou Li's dishes. "Why are you eating so lightly? You eat like a girl!"

"It's hot; my appetite is off."

"You should switch the steamed eggs for greens and the eggplant for shredded potatoes," Brother Nan advised him. "That's how the other girls eat. Your cousin is eating exactly that tonight. Plus, it's cheaper—just three yuan a meal."

"Oh." He was used to Brother Nan teasing him.

Yet Brother Nan placed several pieces of meat into his bowl. "Eat more meat, look how thin you are… Put on some weight, get to 200 pounds!"

"So I can stand out more?"

"Hehehe," Brother Nan chuckled, hiding her true intention. "Why did you bring a book and a pen? Do you think the club activity is going to be that boring?"

"If the Bicycle Association isn't riding bicycles, what interesting activity could they possibly come up with?" Zhou Li said.

"You never know."

"I brought an interview report. I'll be conducting a psychological interview with you later," Zhou Li said. "I'm doing it for Baozi."

"Oh~~ sure!" Brother Nan readily agreed.

「Seven o'clock.」

They both entered a large classroom. Rap music was playing, its distinct rhythm well-suited for cycling. Additionally, the projector screen at the front of the class had been turned on, displaying a prominent title—

"How to Ride Efficiently and Effectively?"

Zhou Li and Brother Nan sat down at the back, near the wall.

The Club President was at the front adjusting the equipment. His eyes briefly flicked towards them, and a hint of awkwardness flickered across his expression.

"Why is there a speech? I thought we came here to have fun?" Brother Nan murmured in surprise, then turned to Zhou Li and said, "I told you those 'etiquette girls' last semester were just borrowed, didn't I? Look, they're gone today; it's all guys here."

"Mm."

It wasn't long before the Club President's voice began, "Good evening, everyone..."

The crowd responded in turn.

Most people in the Bicycle Association were quite cheerful; those who weren't usually disappeared shortly after joining.

The Club President grinned, his sun-weathered bronze skin and white teeth creating a radiant contrast. "This time, we were supposed to just get together, chat, and play games, but yesterday, many new members in our group expressed a desire to learn more about cycling. So, I made a brief PowerPoint... Please forgive any shortcomings, and feel free to point out any inaccuracies. Also, just interrupt me anytime you want to say something—no need to raise your hand or anything. Chaos is fine; we're just chatting among friends. For a club like ours, which is mainly for fun, the most important thing is to have a good time. Everyone, please feel free and relaxed."

Laughter rippled through the attendees.

Thus, the Club President began his presentation.

He spoke from a scientific perspective, supported by a lot of data, citing numerous research reports and practical examples. He included both his own experiences and the techniques of professional cyclists. However, he kept glancing at Zhou Li and Brother Nan now and then.

Especially when talking about speed—

Suppose your cruising speed is 20... *glance at them*.

How to train to reach a cruising speed of 25 or even exceed 30... *glance at them*.

How stable and appropriate cadence helps with speed... *glance at them*.

Brother Nan looked bored and expressionless.

Suddenly, a girl in the audience asked, "Is there any way to quickly increase cruising speed to above 35?"

The Club President was in a bit of a bind.

It sounded like a pauper asking for a shortcut to becoming a millionaire effortlessly.

After a moment of thought, he turned to Brother Nan. "Let me have a girl in our club who can do that answer this for you!"

A murmur arose from the audience.

Those who had participated in the last cycling event around Dian Lake all looked towards Brother Nan and Zhou Li.

The Club President also looked up at Brother Nan; he surprisingly remembered her name. "Brother Nan, can you share your experience? How did you manage to maintain an average cruising speed over 35 on various road conditions?"

Brother Nan sat motionless. "Ride for a while, take a break, or just pedal slower; that's how you get it down to 35."

Black lines gradually appeared on Zhou Li's forehead—

Help! What do I do with a girlfriend who's so good at showing off?

The Club President: ...

Everyone: ...

The questioning girl: ...

Oblivious, Brother Nan even started applauding herself first.

Instinctively, everyone else also started clapping, and for a moment, the classroom echoed with patchy, listless applause.

After he finished speaking, the Club President continued, "This academic year is almost over, and I'm about to be a senior. Because of my internship, I have to step down. We will hold elections for new officers this weekend, and I will notify you of the exact time in the club group chat. I hope everyone can participate. Note: freshmen or sophomores can run for officer positions, but only sophomores who are currently officers can run for Club President or Vice-President."

The Club President looked at Zhou Li and Brother Nan, then hesitated for a moment. "However, we discussed this last night. If you two juniors want to run for Club President or Vice-President, given your skills, an exception could be made."

Zhou Li awkwardly looked away.

Brother Nan, however, waved her hand dismissively.

Only then did the Club President drop the subject.

Next, a club officer handed each of them a cup of milk tea. The Bicycle Association partnered with nearby bike shops, helping club members and even all students procure bicycles and gear at prices slightly lower than in the stores. This secured them a substantial amount of sponsorship and endorsement fees. It wasn't clear if there were any under-the-table rebates, but in any case, the Bicycle Association was quite well-off among the clubs.

Then it was time for chatting and playing games.

Zhou Li had thought this event might be boring, but that wasn't the case.

As early as last semester, rumors about the two of them were already buzzing within the Bicycle Association. Among the long-time members who loved cycling, Zhou Li and Brother Nan were considered the ultimate Deities. But because Zhou Li kept a low profile and Brother Nan was busy with other clubs she had joined, many people had only heard of them but never met them. Finally seeing them today, many people gathered around, asking all sorts of questions.

"What's your fastest cruising speed?"

"When did you start cycling?"

"How did you train?"

"Have you cycled Route 318? What about 219?"

"Why don't you compete in the Tour de France?"

"Deity, are you planning to cycle the Yunnan-Tibet route this summer vacation?"

...

Brother Nan answered all the questions, while Zhou Li remained a silent observer.

Before long, someone called him away to play a game called Werewolf Kill.

From the next table, the Club President loudly asked if anyone wanted to play DouDiZhu. Brother Nan responded, leaving the Club President simultaneously thrilled and terrified.

To be honest, since last year's cycling trip around Dian Lake, he had fallen into a somewhat reclusive state. He had even developed a Li Nan phobia. Whenever Brother Nan spoke in the group chat, he felt too embarrassed to chime in. Sometimes, when he was in the middle of a lively chat and Brother Nan suddenly joined, he would immediately remember how he had tried to show off in front of her only to be utterly humiliated, and it felt as if a bucket of cold water had been poured over him.

The Club President inhaled and exhaled, calming himself.

Finally, he mustered his courage, ready to reclaim his dignity in DouDiZhu, a game he excelled at!

"Brother Nan, what are the stakes if one of us loses?"

"Whatever."

"How about drawing a pattern on the loser's face?" the Club President asked cautiously.

"Alright!" Brother Nan glanced over at the next table. She saw the tall, long-legged senior sister, the Vice-President from last year, patiently explaining the rules of Werewolf Kill to Zhou Li. Brother Nan withdrew her gaze, secretly deciding that she absolutely had to fatten Zhou Li up to 200 pounds.

"Then I'll shuffle the cards..."

In the blink of an eye, two hours passed.

Outside, the sky had darkened. A faint streak of dark red on the horizon was also fading.

The Club President became withdrawn again.

A senior male student was also dragged down with him.

As for Zhou Li, his game experience had been great at first, but the last couple of rounds had become very unpleasant. The werewolves and villagers seemed to have reached some sort of consensus, immediately killing him off or voting him out at the start. Only the senior sister tried to protect him, but to no avail.

Zhou Li felt pretty helpless too.

He was intelligent, a good actor, and his hearing was so sharp it was like he had a cheat enabled. But that wasn't his fault.
