My Demon Friends

Chapter 305: Dangerous 502

June 15th, another Monday. Like last semester, Mondays this term had the most classes—almost a full schedule—and there was evening self-study on odd weeks. Thankfully, evening self-study had already officially ended last week.

"I hate Mondays," Zhou Li muttered as he looked at his phone screen.

"You're growing less and less fond of studying," Huai Xu's voice came from the bunk above. "That's not good. In our time, many people wanted to study but didn't have the chance."

"…"

"Hey!" The old monster rolled over to look at him. "I have a way to make you like Mondays!"

"?"

"You could have a kid with Li Daimao and name them Monday."

"…"

Is this the same joke as 'Zhou Dao'?

Zhou Li still didn't reply but silently typed a '1' on his phone as his stomach started to growl with hunger. He checked the time; it was 5:58 PM. School usually ended at six o'clock, often a few minutes early. However, this was the last Introductory class, and the teacher was trying to finalize participation scores.

Huai Xu's voice continued from the top bunk: "My takeout should be arriving soon. It's on its way, 138 meters, oh, 125 meters now. I'm going to pick it up. See you at the usual place."

Zhou Li just nodded.

A soft THUD came from the bunk above.

Tuanzi poked her little head out in front of Zhou Li, staring at the screen. Her eyes blinked a few times before she turned back to look at Zhou Li. "Zhou Li, are we going out for dinner?"

"That's right."

Almost simultaneously, the teacher's voice announcing the end of class came from the phone—their schedule for next term was set, and it didn't include this teacher. Brother Nan had mentioned that the teacher mainly taught the advanced classes. Teaching Introductory courses was just a side gig, so this might be their last interaction.

After the online class was over, Zhou Li sent a message to Brother Nan, then picked up Tuanzi and walked out.

Since Tuanzi couldn't enter the cafeteria, most days he and Brother Nan ate outside. The few restaurants on campus were extremely busy, and it was hard to get a seat. Consequently, they usually ate their takeout in a pavilion outside the dorms.

By mealtime, a student would bring an abundance of food to the pavilion to wait for them. This student was, of course, not 'Huai Xu.' 'Huai Xu' was from the school next door and couldn't possibly run over to Cai University every day to deliver their meals. This suited Huai Xu just fine since keeping up appearances as the 'Huai Xu' Baozi and the others knew was getting tiresome. As a result, every student who brought food was different, which left Baozi, Cotton Swab, and even Liu Zhengming marveling at the diversity.

Sitting down in the pavilion with Brother Nan, Huai Xu had already opened the packaging.

Zhou Li glanced over. The spread included sweet and sour carp, a large plate of chicken, hand-grabbed mutton, and stir-fried vegetables. It was all so lavish as to arouse envy—this old monster had never skimped on food or games since he started earning money.

The aroma was enticing.

Tuanzi leaped onto the stone table and turned to question Huai Xu, "Where is Lord Dumpling's fish soup?"

"What is this cat meowing about?" Huai Xu looked puzzled.

"Lord Dumpling told you this morning, Lord Dumpling wants fish soup over rice! Fish soup over rice! You always turn a deaf ear to Lord Dumpling's words!" Lord Dumpling was very angry. If time could be turned back a few hundred years, she would have ordered Zhisha to take Huai Xu and starve him for a couple of days.

"Classmate, why is your cat meowing non-stop?" Huai Xu asked Zhou Li, confused. "Is it hungry? Should I catch a couple of mice for it?"

"Damn it!!"

"Alright, let's eat," Zhou Li said as he split his chopsticks, at the same time addressing Tuanzi, who was puffing up in anger. "Lord Dumpling, have some mutton to ease your anger. With your esteemed status, there's no need to stoop to the level of some idle Demon Officer."

"I won't eat!" Tuanzi turned her head away. "Lord Dumpling is upset!"

"It's really tasty," Zhou Li commented after trying a piece.

"This is hand-grabbed mutton from Dong Town," said Huai Xu. "I got it from the Hexi Corridor; the large plate chicken is from there too. You can't get this kind of stuff around here."

"I see."

Zhou Li noticed Tuanzi quietly prick up her ears, as if eavesdropping on their conversation. Seizing the moment, he urged again and brought a piece of mutton to Tuanzi's mouth... and Tuanzi reluctantly opened her mouth to accept it.

"Is it good?" he asked.

"Not good!" Tuanzi turned away.

"Do you want more?"

"Maybe just a tiny bit more."

"Okay."

Zhou Li carefully chose the leanest piece and gently tore it into small bits, placing them in Tuanzi's bowl.

Brother Nan watched, the corner of her mouth twitching.

After they had their fill, Tuanzi was hopping around, Brother Nan and Zhou Li sat spacing out, and Huai Xu had already left with the trash.

"Have you finished your psychological interview?" Brother Nan asked.

"Still have a few left."

"Is it fun?"

"Not really, it's quite bothersome and time-consuming." Zhou Li was someone who always disliked hassle, but after thinking about it he added, "But it helped me get to know many of my classmates."

"That makes sense." Brother Nan nodded. "You're probably not as familiar with your classmates as I am, right?"

"Right."

"It doesn't matter," Brother Nan felt it was no big deal. "Remember to set an alarm for course selection tomorrow, 7:58, so you can log in two minutes before the time. I expect the system will be slow."

"Got it."

"Sigh…" Brother Nan rubbed her head with a sigh. "I've had a full day of classes, and now my head hurts."

"You actually pay attention in class?" Zhou Li was astonished.

"??"

"Oh, do you need a headache pill?"

BANG!

Tuanzi, at the side, turned her head sharply at the noise and just happened to see Brother Nan retracting her fist. She thought for a moment, spun around, and charged toward Zhou Li. "Zhou Li, did she hit you again?"

SWISH.

Tuanzi jumped between Zhou Li and Brother Nan, shielding Zhou Li with her body. "Don't be afraid! Lord Dumpling will protect you!"

Zhou Li's face was expressionless. Here we go again?

Brother Nan: ??

Tuanzi quickly hid behind Zhou Li and cautiously peeked out half her head to size up Brother Nan, while also throwing out tough words: "Vicious woman, you hit Lord Dumpling before, don't think Lord Dumpling has forgotten, and don't think Lord Dumpling is afraid of you! Once His Highness awakens, Lord Dumpling will definitely seek revenge on you, and you'll be done for, I'm telling you…"

"Wanna go out for a stroll tonight?" Zhou Li remained expressionless.

"Addicted to kisses?"

"It's not that..."

"Oh, it's not," Brother Nan nodded, stood up, and patted her behind. "Then let's go hang out now while it's still light out."

"...Yes." Zhou Li admitted defeat.

"TCH! What's there to be embarrassed about admitting? I also find it quite fun!" Brother Nan smacked her lips. "No wonder those high school couples would rush to some deserted places right after evening study... It's really fun indeed!"

"Female hooligan!"

"Did you call me for something?"

"…"

Zhou Li returned to his dormitory to wait for nightfall and found the roommate group chat bustling with discussions about class selection.

He saw Chen Yang's message.

Chen Yang wanted to choose swimming; he was also a landlubber.

Zhou Li shared the information he got from Brother Nan with the group and glanced at the interview list, which still included Chen Yang.

Zhou Li: Chen Yang, I want to ask you a few questions.

Chen Yang: Psychological interview, right? Bring it on, I've heard about it and I'm ready.

Zhou Li: Why haven't you found a girlfriend yet?

Chen Yang: PFFT!

Chen Yang: Why is it different from what you asked Chang Xiaoxiang?

Zhou Li: Tailored questions. What I asked Chang Xiaoxiang is also different from what I asked Liu Zhengming.

Chen Yang: Go on.

Zhou Li: Actually, you're not bad off. I've noticed several times that girls were interested in you, but you successfully avoided them. Do you have psychological barriers?

Chen Yang: Where do you see that?

Zhou Li: Like the one-week CP last semester.

Chen Yang: That's not my fault.

Zhou Li: What about last month? You mentioned her in the group chat: that very cute girl who shares your hobbies. But the first time you gamed together, you made her cry, and she called you out on QQ Space.

Chen Yang: She really was terrible!

Zhou Li: What about the month before that, the girl with the nice figure?

Chen Yang: How do you know all this?

Zhou Li: You and Chang Xiaoxiang were happily chatting about it in the group chat.

Chen Yang: Dorm leader! You! You actually spied on our chat! And here I thought you had no interest in any group messages...

Zhou Li: ?

Chen Yang: That's still not my fault!

Zhou Li: Do you even want a girlfriend?

Chen Yang: Of course I do! I dream about it!

Zhou Li: I see.

He was scrutinizing Chen Yang's messages with a very serious attitude, thinking deeply from time to time while jotting down notes on the interview report.

He felt this person had no small amount of psychological issues.

That made the situation all the more troublesome—

Liu Zhengming was overly introverted and sloppy. Chang Xiaoxiang was sweet but had just gone through a breakup. And Chen Yang? He lacked a proper understanding of relationships yet often pretended to be a love master in front of Chang Xiaoxiang. Could it be that in the entire 502, only he was normal?

Thankfully, he wasn't an ordinary person either.

Things like poisoning the water dispenser or smashing a watermelon with a sledgehammer should be quite hard to pose any threat to him, so he was relatively safe.

With this thought, he felt considerably more relaxed.
