My Demon Friends

Chapter 368: The Key Members of Probability Society

The classroom felt a bit damp and cool in the early morning, possibly because it had been closed all night. A faint scent of paint from the wooden desks and chairs wafted through the air. Once the windows were opened, the scent quickly faded, or perhaps he'd just gotten used to it.

Zhou Li sat by the window, quietly listening to the lecture.

The sound of birds chirping faintly drifted in from outside.

The branches and leaves of the trees were so close, adorned with shimmering dewdrops, that they almost seemed to reach inside.

It was an excellent study environment.

Zhou Li had brought Tuanzi to the classroom as well.

The little creature lay on his lap, a warm and soft presence, drifting in and out of sleep.

Sometimes she would turn her head to look out the window, as if trying to find the source of the chirping. At other times, she would tug at him with her little paw, but she remained quiet. Zhou Li had told her that the person on the podium was called a "teacher," who was very fearsome, and that they were currently playing a game: "Don't make a sound, and don't let the teacher find you."

If she won, there would be fish soup over rice for dinner.

The sunlight gradually penetrated the clouds, shining through the window onto the desk. It wasn't yet hot, but the dew on the leaves outside had also gradually disappeared.

Brother Nan furrowed her brow; the glare on her phone screen made it hard for her to see.

"So annoying," she muttered quietly.

Zhou Li looked down.

Tuanzi instinctively squinted as a beam of light had struck her eyes directly, disturbing her slumber.

After a moment of thought, Zhou Li unzipped his jacket, pulled one side of it over her to shield her from the light.

"HMM..."

Tuanzi keenly sensed the change in light and shadow, groggily opened her eyes, and looked at him.

Zhou Li brought his finger to his lips—

"SHH..."

Tuanzi blinked her left eye.

Zhou Li then raised his head to continue listening to the lecture, but for some reason, Brother Nan, who was sitting next to him, suddenly elbowed him, which baffled him.

The female botany teacher was someone who truly loved her subject. Don't think that's normal—it's actually quite rare. It's rare for someone to be passionate about their profession while doing it, and it's rare for teachers to genuinely love the subject they teach.

Sometimes, people make choices not out of preference.

Just like Zhou Li's high school math teacher, whose true passion was actually history...

Zhou Li always thought he should have been teaching history.

This kind of passion is undoubtedly very beneficial for one's work.

It was just like this female teacher.

Zhou Li found her lectures very interesting. Although she only taught basic knowledge, she could delve deeper at any time with ease. Her classes were neither boring nor left any doubts afterward; they were incredibly clear.

It felt like each lesson was packed with knowledge—excellent value.

He glanced at the person next to him—

Zhou Li sighed. Slackers will be slackers. Such a good teacher, yet Brother Nan doesn't appreciate her. Still playing on her phone. After graduation, she'll probably have to rely on buying lottery tickets for a living.

The class dismissal bell rang.

The teacher quickly finished her last sentence and, while packing up her things, announced the end of class, as if delaying even a second would cost her a fortune.

Brother Nan immediately stretched lazily, turning to Zhou Li. "Let's go! Breakfast!"

Previously drowsy, she was now full of energy.

Zhou Li looked at her and shook his head silently.

Hopeless.

But he didn't show it, simply saying, "Could you get my books? I need to carry Lord Dumpling."

"Okay!" Brother Nan chirped.

"Alright, let's go," he said.

Tuanzi, nestled in his arms, blinked at him. She glanced at the teacher's departing figure, then said proudly, "Lord Dumpling didn't make a sound at all!"

Zhou Li pretended to be helpless. "Okay, you win this round..."

"YAY!" Tuanzi cheered.

"SIGH..." Zhou Li exhaled dramatically.

"Fish soup with rice!" Tuanzi declared.

"I know, I know..."

Zhou Li put on an extremely reluctant expression. This significantly enhanced the little one's sense of victory, encouraging her to try even harder next time.

Perhaps after several consecutive wins, even if he deliberately teased her during class, trying various ways to make her utter a sound, she would still clench her teeth and remain silent, resolutely refusing to yield the fruits of her victory to him.

Breakfast consisted of Sichuan wontons.

Brother Nan's tooth was almost fully healed. This greatly disappointed Zhou Li, as he had only managed to exact about half of his 'tenfold payback'.

"We have physical education this afternoon. Let's do Tai Chi together," Brother Nan suggested.

"Mm," Zhou Li agreed.

"TSK TSK TSK..." Brother Nan clicked her tongue.

"What?" Zhou Li looked at Brother Nan, puzzled.

"Last time I was enjoying Tai Chi at school, *someone* thought I was embarrassing and pulled me away. Now *you're* choosing to do Tai Chi with me," Brother Nan said, her eyes darting around and her lips quirking. She probably thought she looked very sly, but it just made her look cute.

"I told you, I got stuck," Zhou Li said, pausing before adding, "and last time was different..."

"BLAH, BLAH, BLAH," Brother Nan mimicked his tone and intonation in a strange voice.

"Childish," Zhou Li retorted.

"Of course, I'm not as mature as you; you've already started taking care of a child." Brother Nan glanced at him feeding Tuanzi the Sichuan wontons. The wontons from this place had large fillings, and he was specifically picking out the filling to feed Tuanzi, even bringing it right to her mouth. "You never fed me like this when my tooth ached. In fact, you deliberately did the opposite."

"..."

Zhou Li gently bit into a wonton, picked the filling out with his chopsticks, and mockingly offered it to Brother Nan.

"Want me to feed you?"

"EW!" Brother Nan made a face of disgust.

Zhou Li didn't mind and proceeded to bring it to Tuanzi's mouth. Seeing Tuanzi obediently open her mouth and eat it, he shot Brother Nan a look.

Turnabout.

A little later, Brother Nan said, "Speaking of which, let's have a Probability Society dinner tonight to celebrate its establishment. We didn't get to gather last semester because of the pandemic."

"The society?"

"Yup!"

"What are we eating?"

"Hotpot."

"Aren't you getting a tooth pulled tomorrow?"

"So?"

"Nothing..."

"I just want to eat something good before I get my tooth pulled. Do you have a problem with that?" Brother Nan glared at him.

"I didn't eat anything special before my tooth extraction," Zhou Li frowned.

"That's because you chose not to, and you're not as much of a glutton as I am," Brother Nan couldn't help but admit. "Your tactics are more clever than mine. You're always cooking up these delicacies to tempt me, and you do it in such a way that I can't even get mad... And your tooth was fine the very next day!"

"Really?"

"Anyway, I've been craving it badly these days, and tonight's hotpot is a must, no matter the excuse!" Brother Nan declared, adamant.

"You're not..." Zhou Li began, then hesitated.

"What?"

"Nothing..."

"I hate it when people leave things half-said."

"Oh."

"Oh?"

"Got it..."

"You're so annoying!"

"Is that so?"

Zhou Li still hadn't exposed her for things like dipping her chopsticks into Baozi's spicy soup or snatching Mianmian's grilled rice cakes at the barbecue. It wasn't that he was afraid of implicating Baozi; the 'Beating Fee' included in the red envelope he'd given Baozi already covered such incidents—this was an understanding between the two of them. Mainly, Brother Nan was very prideful. Exposing her could lead to the collapse of the image she believed she had in Zhou Li's eyes (an image, of course, that was largely self-constructed). If that happened, what a devastated Brother Nan might do was beyond Zhou Li's imagination. He'd at least get a severe beating, right? So, he had saved these video clips in a private folder, only taking them out to watch by himself when no one else was around.

"So it's decided?" Brother Nan asked.

"Sure," Zhou Li replied.

"Then I'll go back and let everyone know."

"Yeah."

The Probability Society officially had ten members because establishing a society required at least that many, so they had to pull in some people to make up the numbers. This included Zhou Li's three roommates (the "brutes from his dorm," as he thought of them) and the siblings Zhong En and Zhong Xin, whom he'd met when he went to see Zhou Qianqian about becoming their faculty advisor.

The actual members were as follows:

Club President: Li Nan

Vice President: Zhou Li

Honorary Vice President: Huai Xu

Head of Recruitment Department, Mascot, and Society Protector: Great Demon Lord Dumpling

Members: Mianmian, Qian Qian, and Baozi.

Seven members in total.

Baozi was soon to be promoted by Brother Nan to Secretary to the Club President, a position that didn't exist in other societies.

The society boasted a very high overall attractiveness level.

Brother Nan pulled out her phone and quickly created a group chat.

Embarrassingly enough, the mighty Probability Society had only just now gotten its own QQ group.

[Incumbent Club President Li Nan]: "Attention all core members and society members! After due consideration, we've decided that the society will have a dinner gathering tonight. The tentative plan is hotpot. If your class schedules permit, please make every effort to attend. If you have a conflict, please report it in advance."

[Incumbent Club President Li Nan]: @All Members

[Mianmian]: "Aren't we in the same class? /question mark"

[Qian Qian]: "Our classes are the same."

[Baozi]: "Are we splitting the bill (AA)? How much will it cost?"

[Huai Xu]: "Aw, but I have dance class tonight."
