Chapter 1281: Mana Control

Bai Ge's wooden practice sword, swirling with violet mana, cut through the air as it slashed towards Adam's neck. From behind, Bai Xun thrust his practice sword as well, wisps of violet mana clinging to it.

After a complex series of coordinated attacks, the Sword Dragon and Sword Phoenix had finally cornered Adam. The latter could only defend. There was no space to dodge the combo attack by the two geniuses of the Baihua Sect.

Bai Ge's sword was almost upon Adam, mere inches away from his neck. Meanwhile, Bai Xun's sword was only moments away from stabbing his back.

Victory was but within their grasp.

Yet, at the last possible moment, Adam's figure blurred like a specter. Bai Ge's sword slashed through the youth's afterimage, almost hurting Bai Xun in the process.

Bai Xun, on the other hand, ended up thrusting his weapon through nothing but empty air. In fact, he had to lean towards the side so as not to get hurt by Bai Ge's sword.

They thought that it was over, that Adam would stop at simply evading their attacks.

But they were wrong.

Bam! Bam!

Two back-to-back chops landed on Bai Ge and Bai Xun's necks, causing them to grimace in pain.

A moment later, Adam's figure blurred into existence as he appeared a few feet away from them. His feet gracefully touched the ground, the mana around his right hand still swirling with a tyrannical dark light.

"Ugh! Damn it!" Bai Xun threw away the wooden sword in a fit of frustration. He turned to Adam, while still clutching at his neck, then asked agitatedly, "How? Just how do you do it?"

Meanwhile, Bai Ge had a contemplative look on her face as she replayed Adam's movements in her mind. But the more she tried to understand it, the deeper her frown became. At last, she turned to Adam with a dark, inquisitive look on her face.

Adam gestured with his hands. "Auhh!"

Bai Xun glared at him. "I've never wanted to hit someone so badly!"

He then stomped out of the training ring and sat down on a boulder at the edge, angrily drinking water.

Bai Ge remained, however.

Adam's lips twitched beneath the mask as he wondered, Now how the hell do I explain it to them without saying auhh.

"Apart from your incredible speed, it also has to do with mana control, doesn't it?" Bai Ge said with a thoughtful look on her face. "More precisely… deception through mana control."

Adam's eyes lit up. He took a step and arrived right before Bai Ge, crossing a distance of a few feet in just a single step through sheer physical speed alone.

"Auhh."

"…Speed," Bai Ge murmured with narrowed eyes.

The next moment, she noticed Adam leaning to the left and circulating mana through the right side of his body. It was evident that he was exerting pressure on his body to move to his left.

But, the next moment, he appeared a few feet to his right instead.

"Yes!" Bai Ge's eyes flashed with a peculiar light.

"This is exactly what I mean, Brother Ao. But this requires exceptional mana control. One simply can't deceive others through their own mana circulation if they don't have control over their tiniest thread of mana. That is my question. How do you do it?"

Sitting at the edge of the ring, Bai Xun's ears perked up.

Meanwhile, Adam felt very satisfied. Bai Ge was truly gifted in arcana, more so than Bai Xun. He just had to show her something once, and she would be able to deduce ten things from it.

Meanwhile, Bai Xun was gifted in swordsmanship and combat arts. The young man had picked up on Adam's fighting moves and anticipated them on many occasions.

Training them had, in turn, become a form of training for him.

"Auhh." Adam waved his hand. Following that, a crate of eggs appeared on the ground beside him.

Bai Ge's eyes widened. "Brother Ao! Eggs are forbidden within the sect! What are you doing?"

Adam scoffed at that statement. He waved his hand dismissively. Then, he turned to Bai Xun and beckoned him. "Auhh-auhh!"

The two of them had deep frowns on their faces as they saw Adam hold an egg in his hand. Though they were undoubtedly curious.

"Auhh!" Adam gestured for them to focus.

The next moment, he circulated mana inside his body, channeled it through his right hand, and then infused it within the egg.

Bai Ge and Bai Xun were still confused till this moment.

In the next second, Adam smashed the egg on the ground!

"What did you do that for?!" Bai Xun was dumbfounded. He really thought Adam would do something miraculous with the egg, but the madman simply chucked it on the ground.

"Senior Brother, look!" Bai Ge pointed at the smashed egg.

When Bai Xun turned to the ground, he was stunned. The insides of the egg were perfectly… yellow!

"Don't tell me," Bai Xun gulped.

"Auhh!" Adam crossed his arms and nodded smugly.

Bai Ge and Bai Xun were speechless for a long time. At last, Bai Ge murmured, "You circulated mana into the raw egg, stirred the yolk and albumen, and mixed them into one uniform liquid…"

"…All without cracking the eggshell," Bai Xun completed her words.

"Auhh!" Adam stroked his imaginary beard, acting like a wise master.

He then pushed the crate of eggs towards the two, then gave them a thumbs-up. "Auhh-auhh!"

Bai Ge and Bai Xun were stunned speechless. Although what Adam displayed seemed very easy, it was, in fact, extremely difficult. It was a level of mana control that they'd never witnessed before. Perhaps, according to them, only their Sect Leader was capable of such a feat!

Excessive force would shatter the shell, and too little force would achieve nothing inside. This was a test of absolute control. It was a delicate dance of precision and restraint.

No, forget mana control, if one was able to blend the yolk and the white without breaking the shell, then that would mean they'd have learned the first truth of balance...

To wield power without destruction!

Seeing their ridiculous expression, Adam decided to drop the final bomb on them. He crouched on the ground, coating his index finger with mana.

Then, he carved the following words into the tiled floor of the arena:

"If you haven't succeeded by the time the delegations from the two clans arrive, I'll beat the living daylights out of you both."

Having cleared his schedule for the next few days, Adam left the Petal Court in a spectacular mood, heading straight to Jingyun City to get drunk.

Meanwhile, Bai Ge and Bai Xun remained frozen on their spots, their gaze shifting between the crate of eggs and Adam's written warning.
