I decided to try and change the topic, "Anyway… How long more before we reach our destination?"

Amber detached herself from me and skipped over to the map console.

"Hmm… Probably in one more day if nothing--"

"Warning! Interdiction blast imminent!" My console interrupted.

Are you fucking kidding me?!

Isn't this supposed to be near the Inner Colonies already?! So shouldn't there be fewer pirates instead?!

Our ship lurched as the interdiction blast hit us, forcing us out of our Travel speeds.

I was expecting another group of pirates to be waiting for us somewhere but what I saw was a military D Class Frigate speeding towards us.

"Captain… They are hailing us," Yumiko announced.

"I suppose patch them through?"

A screen appeared and a rather young looking man appeared on the screen.

"Traveller, shut down your engines, this is an inspection."

I blinked, "Err… An inspection?"

"Yes. Power down your engines and prepare to be boarded."

I turned to Amber and she nodded, "It's normal around here. They check for smugglers and pirates."

Well… I guess I should just be happy that it wasn't pirates…

I did as the guy asked and shut down our engines, allowing the military ship to approach us.

The ship stopped beside ours and a smaller ship was launched from its hangar to dock with us.

I went to the cargo bay with Amber to receive them and I had to remember to walk there instead of levitating there using my powers.

Of course, I made sure to send a message to all the other girls to make sure they were aware that we were receiving an inspection so they could prepare for it.

Would be awkward if they came in and found Lea still buck naked amongst her plants…

Ok, it won't be awkward, I would just need to wipe the memories of whoever that saw that.

The airlock cycled open and several armed men stepped in, including three guys in Power Armour.

The guy leading them was the same guy I saw on the screen and he immediately approached me.

"Are you the captain of this ship?"

I nodded, "Yes, I am."

He then took out his personal terminal and I assumed he was scanning me to check my identity.

He suddenly froze up and his eyes widened before slowly looking back up at me, "Captain Tera… Platinum ranked Mercenary? The one who singlehandedly dealt with a Pirate Lord?"

"Huh, I'm surprised that piece of news is still floating around. It's been what? A few months since I did that?"

The guy sucked in a breath, "Ah… Umm… I apologise but… We have to check your ship for contraband… It's nothing personal, it's just… A completely random check."

Why is he suddenly so nervous?

I gestured towards the cargo bay, "Err… Sure? Go ahead? This won't take long right? We're headed to the Exo-Knight exhibition so if this causes us to miss it…"

"Don't worry! It will be over quickly! All of you, hurry up!"

I was expecting the men to be the ones checking the ship but they quickly spread out to step away from the airlock.

A single person came through while pulling along some kind of cart with a heavily reinforced box sitting on top of it.

Were they using some kind of machine to scan the interior of the ship or something?

My question was answered when the guy unlatched the multitude of locks on the box before opening the door, the guy leaping back right after he did so as though he was expecting the box to explode.

Heck, even the guy who was greeting us had retreated to where the rest of his men were standing, leaving just me and Amber standing in front of it.

The door slowly swung open and…

A black furred Cocker Spaniel hopped out from the box.

Ahhhhhh!! It's so cuuuuute!!

Naturally, I did the first thing that came to mind and I didn't even notice that Amber had frozen up beside me.

I was only dimly aware of the soldiers gasping out in shock and fright when they saw me moving towards the dog.

I squatted down in front of the dog and reached out my hands towards it, making cooing sounds as I did so.

The dog hopped a few steps towards me before rolling on its back and presenting its belly to me.

Awww~ It's a girl~

"Who's a good girl? Who's a good girl?" I cooed, rubbing her belly with my hands.

The dog gave a happy whine and one of its foot started shaking in the air as well.

Sooooo cuuuuute~

"Te… Te… Tera…" Amber whispered.

I turned around, still scratching the dog's belly, "Hmmm? What is it?"

"I… Ummm… I think we should… Let that thing… Do its job…"

Ah…

I looked back at the military people who were all staring at me with wide eyes like they were looking at some kind of monster.

I'm going to be honest here… I completely forgot about how dogs are treated in this universe…

I pulled back my hand and the dog immediately looked at me, tilting her head as though to wonder what was wrong.

She reached out her front paw and pawed at my hand, trying to pull it back towards her.

Well… What could I do but continue scratching her belly again?

This time I used both hands to scratch her belly and not only was her back leg shaking in happiness, so was her tail.

Ahhhh!!! She's so cuuuuute!!!

"Te… Tera… I really think… We should let them work now…" Amber muttered from behind again.

Nngghhh… I know I shouldn't… But she's so cute!

Argh… Fine, fine, just five seconds more… Ehehe~ She's so fluffy~

Ok, ok! I'm done now!

I gave the doggie a pat on her head before I stepped away.

The dog once again tried to beg me to continue by pawing at me but… Hnnngggg… No! I have to harden my heart and take another step back!

Being the smart girl that she was, she most likely realised that patting time was over and rolled back to her feet, though she continued to stare at me probably waiting to see if I had more instructions for her.

I looked at the military people who were still staring at me and cleared my throat.

The guy who had unlocked the door quickly shook himself out of his stupor to shout at the dog.

"Inspect the ship! Go!"

Wait, you really expect a single dog to inspect the entire ship?

I looked at the dog and it was completely ignoring her handler in favour of staring at me.

The handler looked a little confused and tried to repeat the order again, only for the dog to continue ignoring him.

I felt a little bad for him so I took over for him.

"Inspect the ship! Go!"

The dog immediately leapt into action and ran off.

Wait… They really expect one dog to inspect the entire ship?

That was my thoughts until the dog suddenly stopped in the centre of the cargo bay and sniffed in the direction of the hangars before turning back to sniff in the direction of the bridge.

It then turned towards the direction of where the Drow of Dawn was docked and let out a bark.

The handler slowly trudged over, "Umm… We err… We need you to… Open that door…"

Why is everyone acting so scared of me now?

I obliged and opened the door leading to the other ship and the dog bounded towards the other ship, gave the place a sniff and then ran back to me.

It gave another bark and wagged its tail happily so I just had to give it a pat on the head.

The handler turned to the guy who I assumed was the captain of the frigate, "All… All clear, sir…"

Wait, really? That's all it needed to do? What were they even checking for?

Well… Don't mind me then, I'll just pay the doggie for a while more~
