I was prepared to face the new adversary when the Power Armour raised his fist to shoot at the ground, a cylinder dropping onto the floor before it exploded to fill the hall with flames.

The guy then immediately turned around and ran after the three guys, cutting me off with the flames.

What the fuck? At least fight me! You can't just make an entrance like that and run away!

Amber appeared beside me, a mischievous smile on her face, "Oh wow~ They used fire to block us off? Oh look! It doesn't even burn that well!"

She waved her hand over it and the flames died out quickly, leaving a path for us to advance again.

Looking ahead, those guys already have a head start on us and I wasn't going to let them run any further than they already have.

I slammed my halberd behind me on the ground before using it as an accelerator and pushed myself forward.

Using my telekinesis as another boost, I flung myself forward and I was soon right behind them.

The Power Armour must have some kind of rear view camera because the pilot immediately knew I was catching up to them and raised his fist to shoot several energy projectiles at me.

I activated my halberd and the edges glowed with energy before I cleaved it down in front of me.

The energy projectiles struck my halberd and got deflected back towards the Power Armour, only to be absorbed by a shield that materialised over it.

I spun through the air and swung my halberd out again, sending the axe flying forward and slicing through the right leg of the Power Armour, separating the leg off cleanly right below the knee.

The Power Armour tried to take another step, only to fall forward as it was now missing a foot and it tumbled onto the ground.

I jumped over the Power Armour, ignoring it in favour of catching up to the three guys right in front of it.

The last guy let out a panicked shout and fired a few rounds towards me, but I completely ignored it since he was using a ballistic pistol and Renata just ate up all the bullets that would have hit me.

I gave the guy a kick in the back, sending him stumbling towards the guy in front of him and tripping the both of them.

Landing on one of their heads, I used him as a springboard to jump towards the last guy, smacking the pole of my halberd against the side of his head.

He ended up smashing himself against the wall and knocking himself out, his unconscious body sliding slowly down onto the ground.

The other two guys tried to get up so I smacked them both across the head with my halberd as well to knock them out, both of them slumping to the ground on top of each other.

I then turned my gaze towards the Power Armour and I was prepared to slice it in half if it showed any more antagonistic moves.

Unexpectedly, he raised both hands and a voice came from the armour.

"Wait! Wait! I surrender, I surrender!"

Of course I wasn't going to let down my guard just because he claims he was surrendering.

I kept my halberd close and narrowed my eyes at him, "Get out of the armour."

There was a hiss before the front of the armour opened up and a guy with cybernetic arms stepped out, his hands still raised in the air in surrender.

"I'm out… Don't shoot, ok? I… I have a proposal for the both of us!"

My girls also reached us and were gathered behind him, watching our exchange. All of them still held on to their weapons, ready to shoot him if he tried anything.

I nodded at him, "What's the proposal?"

He gestured towards the three guys I just knocked out, "I assume you know why we're here, right?"

"Why don't you tell me?"

"Well… We were supposed to steal a prototype machine from some executive from a weapons company and… The plan wasn't to kill him but apparently shit happened and the guy is dead. Still, we have the machine and our client is paying top Credits to have this delivered to them so if you let us go, we'll pay you a part of the reward!"

"How much?"

"What?"

"How much are you being paid to do this?"

"That… Well… A hundred and fifty million Credits…"

Oh damn… That's almost the same amount of Credits that I currently have saved… Then again, I guess this amount was going to be split amongst themselves so counting this guy, each person would have gotten thirty million Credits each.

But I have a feeling he might be downplaying the amount of Credits they would be getting just so that I don't ask for too much in return.

"Who's your client?" I asked.

"We don't know… We were hired through a middleman to do this job."

Not surprising I guess.

"So how much are you offering for us to let you go?"

"How about… Half? Seventy five million Credits just to let us go."

I whistled internally. Pretty generous, though that's assuming that he was telling the truth about the payout. For all we know, it might be way more than that.

Hmm… Wait a minute…

I extended my Psionic will towards him, though this one was the telepathic line that I had used to talk to Amber telepathically.

The moment the line connected, I could hear his thoughts come through the connection.

'Shit, shit… If I can just get out of this with them… Seventy five million Credits is a small amount compared to the five hundred million Credits we would be paid… Sure, we'll have to split between all twenty of us but that's still twenty five million Credits per person… That's enough for me to retire…'

I'm honestly not even surprised to learn that he had lied about the payout for this job.

But holy crap… Over five hundred million Credits for a single job like this? Where can I get one?!

Honestly, I never intended to accept his offer no matter what he said.

We weren't exactly short on Credits so we wouldn't be tempted by whatever amount he states. What we needed more was reputation and if we returned back to the police telling them we failed, our reputation would probably be ruined.

"What's the machine? Don't tell me it's the Power Armour you're using?" I asked.

"No, no. It's… Well… We don't know what it is either… We just know that it's a data chip that was on the executive."

"Where is it now?"

"I… It's on one of the guys."

I transformed my halberd back into a box and started searching the three unconscious guys.

I found some Credit Chips on them, some other weapons and also their personal terminal before I finally found a small black box that one of them was carrying.

This was the only thing that would fit the description and since I was still maintaining the telepathic link with the guy, I managed to hear his thoughts.

'That… That's it! Great, I just hope that this bitch doesn't try to take it away from us… Shit… Maybe I should have told her it was something else instead?'

Telepathy is really useful eh?

I walked over to him with the box and smiled at him, "This is it right? Alright, hand over the Credits and this thing is yours."

He blinked at me before scratching his cheek, "Ah… We… We only get paid after we complete this job… So I don't exactly have seventy five million Credits to give to you right now… If you give me your contact, I'll transfer the Credits to you the moment we get paid, how about that?'

I didn't even need to read his mind to know that he has absolutely no intention of paying us the moment he leaves this place.

Oh well… I was hoping that he actually received an advance that we could get from him but I guess not.

Which means there's no need to pretend anymore.

As I was getting ready to smack him across the head to knock him out, he suddenly lunged towards me, his cybernetic arm sliding open to reveal a blade that shot out in front of his fist.

As he was trying to slice the blade at me, I shot out a tentacle from my arm to smack against his face, knocking him back.

While he was reeling from the blow, I wrapped my tentacles around his limbs to lift him up before using another tentacle to wrap around his face, depriving him of air.

He tried to struggle free but my tentacles remained unmoving until he eventually fainted from lack of air and I released him, letting the guy drop onto the floor.

This guy really thought he stood a chance huh… How stupid.
