When morning rolled around, and Diane logged on again, we discussed the results of our previous hunt, as well as the location of the dungeon's entrance. After giving it some thought, Diane shook her head. "It's better not to worry about this dungeon. The level isn't low enough where we can guarantee our safety, and we can't afford for any of us to die even once."
"Couldn't we just walk through it normally with Drake's stealth?" Bella asked in confusion, but Diane quickly denied that claim.
"It was fine on the surface, where we could just stand at the edge. Ghost-X erases your presence, and I assume Ghost Zone has a lesser level of effect along the same vein. However, if we go into a tunnel, there will be nowhere to hide. Monsters will pour in from all directions, and may even just charge down the tunnel to find us. A cave with tunneling monsters would be the worst option for us at the moment."
Bella hesitated, but nodded her head. However, before she could say anything else, Diane continued. "That said, I would like to postpone going to the demon continent for now."
When she said that, both Bella and I looked at her in confusion. "What? But, that was our whole point for coming south." I said, to which Diane agreed.
"That's right. However… right now, the elves at the frontlines are waiting for you to appear. I got in touch with another player I know who is working logistics there. Yesterday, a few high ranking elves requested to be relocated to the northern coastline. Although they claim that it is to prevent any ships from leaving that would target their homeland, even my friend thought the sudden change seemed odd."
"Instead, I want to go through the ocean for a while and find other dungeons like this. We'll be able to level up both myself and Bella in preparation, while the elves are forced to test their patience waiting for you. There's just one thing that we need first, I'm just not sure how to get it…"
"What is it?" I asked, and Diane let out a sigh.
"A reliable respawn point. If we're going to be challenging dungeons, we need a respawn point that we can bring with us. I plan to buy one in tomorrow's auction if I can, but I'm not sure how to get it to us. After all, we don't exactly have a mailbox available."
Bella pursed her lips in thought when she heard Diane's dilemma, while I hesitated. "Do you think we could ask Wisteria for help? She should be able to teleport right to us whenever she wants."
Diane paused, hesitating. "I suppose it's not like we can't trust the league… they've known you were a Fallen since the beginning. If they were going to sell you out to the elves, they would have tipped them off when we were on our way."
With her approval, I sent a message to Wistera. Sorry to ask this, but is there any way that you can have something delivered to us? We're not in a place where we can retrieve it ourselves.
I bet. I heard about the little hunt going on for you. Even some nobles from other nations are already showing signs that they're tempted. Wisteria responded after a few moments.
Quite. And seeing as this all started because of the necromancer you killed… I hinted, knowing she'd get my meaning. Granted, the necromancer would have died either way, but it was undeniable that we were being blamed for something Wisteria herself did.
…Fine. What is it you need so badly?
A respawn anchor. And instructions on how to set it up. I had seen Kelly using one when I was training with her in the forest, but I didn't have a clear enough understanding of it to confidently use it myself. We're going to be farming dungeons in the ocean for a little while, so it would be best to make sure that we don't die and get sent back to Evergreen.
…Got it. Give me just a minute.
I blinked when I read that last message, about to tell her that Diane was planning to buy the stone herself in an upcoming auction. However, instead, space warped just ahead of us, and Wisteria appeared across the room.
The redheaded foxfolk froze, looking around the room in confusion. "How in the world do you have a house? You're on the run in the middle of the ocean."
"He cheated with skills." Diane answered simply, and Wisteria paused.
She opened her mouth to speak, but then just shook her head. "Doesn't matter. Not worth the brainpower. I came to deliver the stone you asked for." With that, Wisteria opened a trade window, passing me a Respawn Anchor. "As for how to use it, it's simple. Just place it down somewhere stationary, and you'll respawn there when you die."
The tale has been illicitly lifted; should you spot it on Amazon, report the violation.
Diane furrowed her brow at the explanation. "Stationary? But there are respawn points on moving ships."
"Yup." Wisteria confirmed. "But the people who actually need the stone die before it's left its effective radius from when they were last near it. The stone can move up to ten kilometers in any direction before it resets its coordinates, and anyone within fifty meters is automatically registered. The odds that someone doesn't on the ship doesn't come within fifty meters of the stone and dies by the time it's moved ten kilometers are seriously low. That's also why sailors that go overboard are urged to simply kill themselves and respawn before the ship gets too far."
Diane blinked, nodding her head. After that, Wisteria glanced over at Bella. "Who's the elf, by the way? Someone we should be testing for the league?"
"Not yet." I denied, before turning to look at Bella. "It's alright. You can trust Wisteria. If they were the type to target you, I'd already be stuck in some death farm."
Wisteria arched a brow at that, but Bella simply gulped, nodding her head. "My name is Bella, a level fifty-six Fallen with the Offline Leveling trait."
Wisteria's entire body froze when she heard that, eyes going wide. She abruptly turned to look at me, leveling a fierce stare. "You are far too willing to trust people. Aside from myself and the master, don't let anyone else in the league find out about her. Not until you at least become a mid-level member of the league."
Bella stiffened when she heard that, and Diane stepped in front of the elf protectively. "Someone from the league would target her?" She asked in a harsh tone.
"Don't forget, it was someone in the league that sold you two out to the dragon player." Bella reminded us. "If you weren't under the master's protection, they might have already come to try and collect his trait. The ability to endlessly get stronger by training skills and being a powerhouse in a fight is already enticing. But getting back the ability to level up, and not being bound to a player? There would definitely be members willing to ignore his orders to go after you."
"At least if you are strong enough to fight mid-level members, they'll have to hesitate to target your friends." Wisteria finished, giving a long sigh before turning to Bella with a tired smile. "Sorry. Bella, was it? I didn't mean to scare you, but for the time being, it would be best if you continue to play the part of a Player. I'd offer to help you get a Status Charm, but that wouldn't really help you much, and you probably already have a disguise kit. So, all I can do is wish you luck."
Bella gulped, nodding her head. "T-thanks." She said with a deep bow.
Wisteria sighed, shaking her head. "I've got to go report this to the master. People with her trait are kept on a watchlist because of how often they are targeted. That way, even if someone does kill her and take her trait, there's the chance that we'll be able to get it back."
After she said that, she waved a hand, teleporting out of the small house. Only then did both Diane and Bella visibly relax. Meanwhile, I looked at the new stone in my inventory. To my surprise, the thing actually didn't appear that expensive under appraisal. Its appraisal value was only twenty gold. However, given that I had never seen it in a store, it must have been a specially traded item. Probably controlled by the various leaders of each nation and faction, and handed out at the founding of a new city.
"Well, at least with this we won't have to worry so much." Diane said, and I agreed before Bella spoke up.
"Does that mean that we'll be tackling this dungeon? Since dying won't send us back to Evergreen anymore."
Diane and I looked at one another, before I shook my head. "Best not to. While it's true that we won't have to face the risk now, this dungeon's not ideal for us. Now that we've found it once, we can try to make our way back if we need it again. Otherwise, we can look for more valuable dungeons, and those with skills we can make use of."
"Besides." Diane grimaced. "These lashers are really not worth all the trouble it takes to kill them. And that's only the random mobs. Their boss is probably even harder to kill."
With that, the three of us left, retrieving our car and driving off. This time, I didn't destroy the house that I had created. If we didn't come back soon, the lashers would do that themselves as they continued to leak out of the dungeon.
"Head west from here." Diane suggested. "And drop down to about five hundred meters. We'll have a better chance of spotting potential dungeons like that."
I nodded my head, following her instructions and descending as I drove off to the west, following the compass in the car. Surprisingly, it didn't take us very long to find a suspicious landmark. "Are dungeons so common in the deep sea?" I asked, but Diane shrugged her shoulders.
"Don't know why they wouldn't be. Dungeons on land can be as close as a few hundred meters." She answered, looking at a ring of shattered ships, floating atop a red patch of sea. "There are probably a lot more dungeons underwater, but we're only able to see the ones on or above the surface."
"Well, what's the verdict for this one?" I asked, and Diane pursed her lips.
"Get in closer, and see if you can appraise anything. A shipwreck like this could either be an interior dungeon, where we have to explore the remains of a broken ship, or an underwater one. You can breathe underwater, but I can only support either myself or Bella to do so, not both."
Nodding, I slowly lowered the car down near the shipwreck, and began casting my appraisal skills. Soon, I paused our descent, my eyes locking on small figures flitting about in the water. "Blood Parasite, level eighty-five. Known skills are Plague Bringer and Blood Puppet. Should I take us out?"
Diane's eyes practically lit up, and she opened the door of the car. "You two wait here as my respawn point. I'll be back in a little while. I want to see if I can get that Blood Puppet skill for myself in the dungeon." Without waiting for an answer, she directly jumped out of the car, transforming into her draconic form in midair and landing in the water with a barely noticeable splash.
