The Epic Tale of Chaos vs Order

Chapter 2057: The peak of the tower

"Kamil, let's go."

Despite the killing intent burning like wildfire in his soul, Serak did not continue the battle. His cold voice carried a sharp command, and the lightning goddess responded instantly. Her body dissolved into a burst of crackling plasma, streaking into the distance like a living storm.

The two enemies cast one last look back at Cain, their gazes filled with both warning and promise, before flashing away into the endless void—retreating from both him and the Divine Kingdom.

Cain did not pursue. His instincts screamed caution. He had no idea what was truly happening, who these enemies were, or why the entire Void Beyond the Realm seemed to have descended into unrelenting war. To rush after them without answers would be reckless. For all he knew, he might stumble into a trap—or worse, strike at those who were not true enemies, worsening chaos already spiraling out of control.

Fortunately, Meylin arrived at his side before long.

The True Depravita's face softened as she looked at Cain. A kind smile curved her lips, carrying the weight of longing built over years apart. For a heartbeat, it was simply her gaze and his, unspoken affection bridging the blood-soaked battlefield.

But the moment did not linger. Determination soon burned in Meylin's eyes, sweeping away tenderness. She was no naïve girl, but a radiant master in her own right, tempered by struggle and conquest. And all around them, war and carnage thundered without end. Love and longing could wait.

Cain smiled back at her—a smile radiant but fleeting—before his expression sharpened to match hers. With a nod, the two turned as one and vanished, their figures flashing back into the conjunct Divine Kingdom they had forged together.

"What is happening, Meylin? Who exactly is fighting?"

Cain wasted no time. His voice carried urgency. He needed clarity, and fast.

Meylin drew a deep breath, arranging her thoughts before speaking.

"It began in the Ninth Realm," she said solemnly. "My master, the Demon King, consolidated his power, establishing an Infinite Overgod Divine Kingdom, and declared open war against the Ancient One. At first, it seemed only a duel between the two—one final battle to decide who would hold the position of supreme existence in the Crimson World. But soon…" She exhaled, shaking her head. "Soon it grew into something much greater."

Her voice lowered, edged with heaviness.

"The Ancient One began gathering forces under a single banner, with one goal: to reach the core of the tower that is the Crimson World. He promised that once he reached the peak, he could reforge the entire universe, ushering in a new era of prosperity and growth for all who stood with him."

Cain frowned. That alone was not enough to explain why armies clashed without pause. But Meylin wasn't finished.

"At the same time, the Demon King declared the opposite: that if anyone reached the top of the tower, the Crimson World itself would collapse. Every being—every soul—would perish, save only the one who ascended. To him, it was no dream of prosperity, but a sentence of extinction. And so he swore to destroy the Ancient One and prevent him from reaching it."

Cain's eyes widened as the truth sank in. For a heartbeat, genuine shock flickered across his face. But when he expanded his consciousness across the void, the echoes confirmed Meylin's words.

All around, chants roared like thunder from countless voices locked in war.

"In the name of the Demon King—FOR LIFE!"

"In the name of the Ancient One—FOR FREEDOM!"

Cain closed his eyes for a moment, thoughts swirling, before murmuring: "So the entire Crimson World has descended into a massive, multidimensional battlefield, with every soul forced to choose a side?"

Meylin gave a solemn nod.

The weight of it pressed down on Cain's shoulders, exhaustion creeping into his bones. He had only just survived one war—the brutal struggle against Azazel and the Imperium of Time. He did not want another. Wars sharpened will, honed potential, and pushed cultivators to new heights, but even the strongest heart needed rest eventually.

But the universe cared little for his desires. Whether he wished it or not, Cain was already ensnared in this war.

And when it came to choosing sides, his decision was clear.

The Demon King had shown him respect, helped him grow, and even gifted him the Alpha-Omega Overgod treasure, the Sky Devourer. The Ancient One, by contrast, had repeatedly sent proxies to kill him—three times or more. Loyalty and reason both pointed in the same direction.

Still, questions lingered in Cain's mind. One in particular pressed forward.

"Do you know what exactly lies at the peak of the tower?"

He knew the Crimson World itself took the form of a vast tower, each realm a layer, nine in total. But what lay at the summit? Why did the two greatest beings of this world seek it with such desperation?

Meylin shook her head. "I don't know. I've heard whispers of a unique celestial body hidden there, but nothing more."

Cain nodded, unbothered by the lack of concrete knowledge. For now, it was mere curiosity, not necessity.

He turned to what mattered more.

"Those two who fought us—Serak and the lightning goddess. I've never seen them in the Second Realm, nor do any memories I've stolen recall their existence. Did they come from elsewhere?"

Meylin's expression hardened, but she nodded immediately. "They are envoys—combatants sent from the higher realms by the Ancient One. Their mission is to rally the forces of 'Freedom' beneath unified leadership."

Cain considered her words. It made sense. No matter how powerful an ideology, without leaders to embody it, it would never flourish. The Ancient One was no fool.

"And the Demon King?" Cain asked. "He must have sent his own representatives as well."

"Yes," Meylin confirmed. A small smile touched her lips. "In fact, they've been waiting, hoping to meet with you as soon as you wake up. Shall we go?"

Cain shook his head. "Later. First, we head to the main landmass. I need to speak with the Enlightened One."
