Cain saw how Meylin and the Enlightened One left, and then turned his gaze toward the Demon King, a meaningful light crossing his eyes.
The Demon King showed a small smile as he understood Cain's meaning. "I trust the little girl enough to put my life in her hands, just like you. And the Buddha is not the kind to betray trust. However, what we are going to discuss is extremely sensitive. If they do not become Alpha–Omega Overgods, they will not be part of what comes next, and if that is the case, it is best if they know nothing."
Cain nodded as he heard those words. He had carried the burden of leadership and understood that trust was not all that mattered when it came to secret knowledge.
"I assume things are not going well for the Life Path."
"Hahaha." The Demon King could not help but release a small laugh as he heard those words. "Ahhh, Life Path. I must admit I am truly awful at names. Adam was the same. I guess that is a curse all leaders bear."
Cain was confused by the reaction of the Demon King and wondered what the meaning of those words was. Luckily, the Demon King did not leave him in doubt, and immediately his eyes sharpened as he continued.
"What do you know exactly about the nature of the Life–Freedom War?"
Cain did not overthink it and simply replied. "It is a battle between your side, led by Depravita, and the Ancient One, led by Neo-Angels. The Ancient One wants to reach the peak of the tower to break the limit of the world and become a Fourth Realm life form. You, on the other hand, want to stop him, declaring that reaching the peak of the tower will cause all of it to break apart and kill everybody."
The Demon King nodded before staring directly into Cain's eyes. "Tell me, if you had no relationship with me or the Ancient One, what path would you have chosen?"
Cain stared at the Demon King for a moment as he considered his answer before nodding.
"The Path of Freedom. I believe I have the power, talent, and destiny needed to reach the limit of the Third Realm. So, if there was a path ahead, I would use all my power to reach it."
His eyes soon began to glow with bright scarlet light.
"We are cultivators. The moment we set foot into this journey, we accept death as our companion, and we cannot allow fear of it to stop us from growing."
Cain's voice was full of honesty. If he were at the peak of the Alpha–Omega Overgod Rank, and in order to rise, he needed to break the barrier at the limit of the Crimson World, he would do it, just like the Ancient One intended to.
Of course, unlike the Ancient One, Cain would ensure that the mortals were in a safe place in case breaking the barrier destroyed the universe, following the philosophy of the Scarlet Path.
The Demon King stared at Cain for a few seconds before nodding.
"I expected that much from you. Now, while the Ancient One does want to surpass the limit of the tower, that will not cause the end of the Crimson World, at least not directly. However, there is something there that could allow him to indeed bring the end of the Crimson World."
The Demon King adopted a very solemn expression as he carried on.
"That is the King of the Crimson World."
Cain frowned as he heard those words. He understood why the Demon King would use a simpler narrative, as it would make it easier for him to draw support. However, what confused him was the notion of a King of the Crimson World.
After all, the Crimson World was on an even higher level than the Nine Empyrean Suns Universe, and if there was someone, or something, that could claim the title of King, then that person was definitely above the Third Realm.
The Demon King could see the inquisitive light in the eyes of the Scarlet King and immediately shook his head.
"If you wish for knowledge regarding the King of the Crimson World, I don't have it. During the Great War, I was at the peak of the power chain, but even then, I only knew its name and nothing more about its origin or history. I heard rumors he was the creator of this universe, and others said he was a fragment of a very powerful life form that perished eons ago, but I cannot confirm anything."
Cain was a little disappointed, as the history of any Fourth Realm life form was beyond precious. The only one he had so far was that of the Ancestor of the Root, and even then, he only got a glimpse of his death and no real knowledge of how to reach that level.
Not letting those thoughts distract him, Cain focused on the Demon King, as it was clear he had not finished, and by the expression on his face, what came next was extremely important.
"I don't know what type of power the King of the Crimson World had, but our goal during the Great War was to reach him, and then we would have been able to alter the matrix of the universe and trigger the Unification."
"Unification?" Cain repeated that word, and he clenched his fists as he had a very bad feeling about it.
The Demon King saw his reaction and nodded, as it was the correct one.
"Yes, we would have erased the barrier between the Crimson World and the Ten Empyrean Suns Universe, and that of our home."
The next second, the Demon King waved his hand, showing three realms one on top of the other. The one at the peak had the form of a tower. The one in the middle had the form of ten suns. And the last one was pure darkness.
