Chapter 1258: Mole (Part 2)

"First, we will continue to strengthen the press offensive. Through the academic journals and industry media we control, we will question the controllability, reproducibility, and long-term safety of this biopharmaceutical developed outside internationally recognized standards and platforms. Emphasize the significant risks that unverified technological paths may pose, and plant seeds of doubt in the minds of scientists and the public. Let it take root and grow."

"Second, launch an intellectual property assault. Utilize all our patent lawyers and intelligence networks to conduct a comprehensive analysis of 'X-2' and its related technologies. Identify any possible entry point, even if only tenuously related to our existing patents, and file patent lawsuits globally. Even if we can't win, we must slow their progress and increase their costs."

"Third..." He looked at Carl Mueller, "Increase the pressure on the mole, urging him at all costs to quickly obtain more details! We need to know the core secrets of Yang Ping's development platform. Also, uncover the weaknesses of their alliance. I don't believe this makeshift alliance is solid as a rock."

Carl Mueller nodded slightly, "Gan, I'm fortunate to have an assistant like you. Mr. Li Gaoyang truly knows how to choose people wisely. I will personally deploy the press and patent war strategies. As for the mole, I will press Mr. Rolf to push the mole to gather more details."

"I must reiterate, intelligence details are still far from sufficient; we must quickly acquire more. If possible, we can use these technical details to preemptively apply for global patents..." Gan Fengyi's tone was calm.

Carl Mueller nodded appreciatively, "This is an exceptionally high-level move. I will urge Mr. Rolf to drive his intelligence system to make an extra effort."

...

Nandu Province, Sanbo Research Institute.

The chief of security at the institute, Chief Qiu, was sitting in his office. Sitting across from him was Zhang Lin, clad in a white lab coat, sitting upright with eyes alert. Since gaining Chief Qiu's approval and being entrusted with responsibility, Zhang Lin carried himself with far more pride.

"The information has been confirmed." Chief Qiu's voice was low, tinged with a bit of weight, "It is certain that there is a 'mole' within our institute."

"The scope is small, but it's deadly." Chief Qiu dipped his fingers in tea and wrote the word "core" on the desk, "The other party possesses highly detailed technical information, including intelligence that only core members would know. This suggests the mole can access progress reports, might even directly participate in core experiments, or could access Professor Yang's team's direct data."

Zhang Lin drew a sharp breath; Yang Ping's team was now as precious as a national treasure. If a mole were among the core members, the consequences would be unimaginable.

"Does Professor Yang know?" Zhang Lin asked.

"We haven't alarmed him yet." Chief Qiu shook his head, "Professor Yang is fully focused on advancing the research and dealing with upcoming challenges; we can't distract him. Besides, to alert the enemy prematurely would be to waste all previous efforts. For now, only you and I know about this, and no specific information has been disclosed to anyone else."

To be within the know indicated Zhang Lin's current high status, immediately instilling a sense of mission and honor within him.

Chief Qiu looked at Zhang Lin, "Doctor Zhang, you have good rapport throughout the institute, strong observation skills, and a talent for gathering intelligence. Moving forward, your task is to, without arousing any suspicion, closely observe everyone who can access the core data of the 'X-2' project. This includes the five doctoral members of Professor Yang's task force, as well as a few lab administrators and tech support personnel who have permission to touch the raw data records."

Zhang Lin felt the gravity of responsibility on his shoulders, but without any hesitation, he said, "Understood, Chief, I'll keep an eye out."

"Be mindful of the methods, any anomaly, no matter how small, must be reported to me immediately." Chief Qiu advised, "Our opponent is cunning; this mole is well-hidden, and the means of infiltration are extremely clandestine."

In the following days, Zhang Lin began to utilize his talents. He continued bustling within the clinical ward daily, occasionally wandering into the laboratory, yet his gaze was like an invisible radar, scanning for any suspicious detail.

He noticed He Zijian still immersed in the sea of data, indifferent to external disturbances; Wang Chao spending his days next to the sensors, bearing the focused expression typical of a technology fanatic; Chu Xiaoxiao discussing with algorithm engineers, her eyes glinting with the pure joy of a creator; Liu Yang shuttling along the process amplification line, his steps sturdy and powerful; Jiang Jitong busy with interfacing with various parties, excelling in coordination and communication skills.

Everything seemed normal, with no apparent issues from anyone.

Yet Zhang Lin did not relax his vigilance. He knew that the more skilled the infiltrator, the better they were at disguise.

That afternoon, Zhang Lin went to the Digital Medical Center to deliver a backup of clinical data. In the center's lounge, he inadvertently saw Ji Ning chatting with a few researchers from other task forces. Ji Ning, who once had the opportunity to join Yang Ping's team but withdrew voluntarily, now watched as Wang Chao, Chu Xiaoxiao, and others gained acclaim, harboring inner resentment.

"...So, luck, this thing, is unpredictable." Ji Ning's voice carried a trace of bitterness, "Had I known things would turn out like this, I would've... Alas, it's too late to say anything now. But their methods are indeed opportunistic, different from our traditional paths; whether they can withstand repeated validation is still uncertain."

Those around uttered agreement, but Zhang Lin sharply noticed that as Ji Ning spoke, his eyes flickered, suggesting it was not just dissatisfaction.
