Chapter 1268: Idol

"Let me calm my emotions."

Chen Xiao stood at the entrance of Sanbo Research Institute, feeling very excited.

After returning to his homeland, he did not directly seek out Yang Ping. Instead, he worked for a period in Huang Jiacai's Breakthrough Laboratory, contributing his strength to the Breakthrough Plan. Now that the technology he was responsible for had stabilized, he felt he could visit Yang Ping.

The contribution he made to the Breakthrough Plan would thus be a gift to his idol, Professor Yang.

"Let's go!"

Chen Xiao adjusted his wrinkled collar and, led personally by Huang Jiacai, stepped forward confidently.

After reporting their names at the front desk, Jiang Jitong quickly emerged from the elevator, enthusiastically guiding them upstairs. "President Huang, Dr. Chen, Professor Yang is waiting for you in the laboratory. He's specifically instructed that you should go directly to him upon arrival."

This sentence added to Chen Xiao's excitement. Was Professor Yang personally waiting for him? This recognition made him both nervous and even more eager.

Walking out of the elevator and through the laboratory doors, the interior was pristine and orderly, contradicting the rudimentary setting he imagined due to "indigenous methods."

The air was filled with a vibrant scientific spirit, researchers hurried about, each of them full of passion.

Pushing through a few quiet hallways, separated by thick transparent glass walls, Chen Xiao saw the familiar silhouette that was his idol.

Professor Yang Ping was not wearing a White Gown, but dressed simply in a dark shirt, leaning slightly over a sophisticated cell operation platform, attentively observing the data flowing across the screen. His profile was clear, with slightly furrowed brows, exuding a serene strength absorbed in thought.

Jiang Jitong gently knocked on the door, and Yang Ping lifted his head, his gaze piercing through the glass accurately to fall upon Chen Xiao.

At that moment, Chen Xiao felt his breath halt.

Yang Ping's gaze was sharp and clear, seemingly able to penetrate all facades. He straightened up, a gentle smile blooming on his face, and briskly walked over to personally open the laboratory door.

"Chen Xiao? Welcome back!" Yang Ping extended his hand, his palm warm and strong, his voice calm, imbued with a reassuring steadiness, "It's been a hard journey. Elder Xiang and Dean Li have both informed me, saying they've sent us a sharp sword, couldn't have imagined you'd arrive so swiftly."

"Professor Yang, you, hello!" Chen Xiao hurriedly grasped Yang Ping's hand, his voice slightly trembling with excitement, the usually eloquent speaker at international conferences now somewhat at a loss for words, "Not hard at all! To, to be able to come here and participate in your research topic is my honor! I had read all your papers while in the United States, especially the one on three-dimensional space gene orientation theory, it was truly astonishing..."

He almost instinctively expressed his adoration, his face slightly flushed from excitement.

"Dr. Chen is not just returning from abroad; he's been back for a while, taking on front-line breakthrough tasks in our Ruixing Laboratory. Now that he's completed the technical breakthrough, he couldn't wait to apply to join your Sanbo Research Institute, I dared not delay and brought him to you straight away." Huang Jiacai introduced from beside him.

Yang Ping observed the unreserved warmth and sincerity in Chen Xiao's eyes, smiled, lightly patting his shoulder, signaling him to relax, "Nonsense, your work on nucleic acid drug delivery and CRISPR enzyme targeted evolution is indeed among the world's forefront. A few days ago, Professor Davidson even emailed me, expressing deep regret over your departure, and asked me to take good care of you."

Chen Xiao understood that his achievements were insignificant compared to Professor Yang's. He had merely made some innovations within an existing framework, whereas Professor Yang was constructing an entirely new framework, with potential to establish a new discipline through his theory in the future.

Yang Ping's humility instantly eased Chen Xiao's tension. He didn't expect Professor Yang not only knew about his work but accurately highlighted the core of his research, and even had exchanges with his mentor.

"Professor, you're too kind..." Chen Xiao said, feeling somewhat embarrassed.

"Come, don't just stand, let me show you the platform we're currently building." Yang Ping naturally turned, guiding Chen Xiao further into the laboratory.

"Professor Yang, I'll go see Doctor Tang and ask if there are any equipment needs on his end. You two have a good chat." Huang Jiacai, having brought Chen Xiao over, tactfully withdrew.

"Go ahead, Tang Shun happened to ask for you just now," Yang Ping said while walking inside, with Chen Xiao following behind him.

The laboratory was more spacious than it appeared from outside, divided into different functional areas, each division very well-arranged.

All areas housed brand-new, high-end equipment flashing with metallic and LCD glows, with some young researchers intently operating them. Upon spotting Yang Ping, they nodded in greeting, eyes full of respect, then glanced curiously at Chen Xiao walking beside Yang Ping.

Yang Ping explained as they walked, his tone calm, with no hint of evasion, "Some of our equipment indeed faced restrictions, particularly those involving ultra-precision instruments and certain special biological reagents, all of which were blocked. But there are always solutions to challenges." He pointed to a device connected to intricate pipelines, "This was a substitute provided by President Huang. This device was just installed and debugged. Other devices are domestically produced. Now, our instrument suite has been completely replaced. These devices can entirely support our research. Although standalone equipment may lag behind international pinnacles, our integration capability is robust, connecting these devices into a unit, where overall performance does not fall much short of international pinnacles."
