Zombie Bodyguard

Chapter 1335: Totem Pillar

Charlotte sneered, saying, "Since I promised you, I won't lead you astray again. Besides, if I wanted to trick you, that move wouldn't work anymore." With that, she headed towards the entrance of the labyrinth.

These days, being a maid and acting so arrogantly, no one else could do that. Zhang Lingyu looked at Lin Tian sympathetically, and followed her inside.

Lin Tian tilted his head towards Rossi and said, "You two wait outside, and Rossi, rest assured, I will find a way to restore your sister's memory, and then you can reunite as siblings."

"Thank you, Brother Tian. My sister always contradicts you, I apologize to you on her behalf." Rossi said gratefully.

Lin Tian patted his shoulder and said, "We are men, after all; we can't be as petty as women. It's normal for her to have some emotions after falling to her current status as a Blood Clan Lord."

After speaking, he glanced at Ai Wei, turned around, and followed. This time, Charlotte entered through the first door on the left. Behind the door was still the same passage, winding and with numerous forks. Such a grand formation engineering, it's unknown how it was built initially.

The walls of the passage were exceptionally smooth. With this level of engineering, ordinary people might not be able to complete this underground space in a year. It's unknown if this island was formed by a volcanic eruption, but the rocks on the island are extremely hard, and ordinary tools can't cut through them.

If this underground space were made public, it would surely cause a sensation, and some might claim it was built by aliens.

The footsteps of the three echoed in this mysterious underground structure, continuously delving deeper inside. This time, Charlotte didn't play any tricks, at least until now, they hadn't reached a dead end.

"Lingyu, have you restored your mana?" Lin Tian asked quietly as they walked behind Zhang Lingyu.

"Almost, using Daoist magic won't be a problem." Zhang Lingyu answered softly. She looked at Charlotte ahead and said, "We've been walking for almost an hour, passing countless forks. If we go back now, do you remember the route?"

"Don't worry, even if she plays tricks, I can still find the way out." Lin Tian assured her.

"That's good. I've been carefully studying the route we've taken so far. It's just the tip of the iceberg of the entire formation map, which is too complex. Even if Zhuge Kongming reincarnated here, he couldn't solve it." Zhang Lingyu marveled.

Lin Tian smiled, and said matter-of-factly, "Of course, the Zombie Ancestors were figures from the ancient and even the remote ancient times. There are no historical records of that era, only legends. It was a legendary era with many powerful beings."

"If the legends are true, then today we can say that the great path has declined. Those mighty ones of that era were as radiant as the bright moon in the sky, while today, a mere Innate strong person can already run rampant, claiming to be founders and ancestors. It's lamentable…" Zhang Lingyu lamented.

"If your words were to spread in the Ancient Martial World, it would certainly stir up a great war. Calling Innate strong people 'small', you're belittling them." Lin Tian laughed.

"Moreover, I don't think the great path is declining. It's just that humans have chosen a different path of development, called technology. Airplanes can allow many ordinary people to fly; could the powerful ones of the past do that? Spacecraft can send an astronaut to the moon, a nuclear bomb can destroy a city. Humans may be frail, but with tools, they can still reach the heavens and earth." Lin Tian countered.

"Maybe what you say is true." Zhang Lingyu said softly.

"Have you finished chatting? We're here." Charlotte suddenly stopped ahead and shouted.

Lin Tian turned and looked forward, finding that the surroundings had changed. It was no longer the unchanging passage but a corridor supported by massive pillars carved with strange creatures. At the end of the corridor was a huge stone door.

"These are totem poles." Zhang Lingyu stepped forward, looking up at the big pillar.

"Are the totems you're talking about those primitive tribe totems?" Lin Tian asked.

"Yes, ancient primitive tribes believed totems were carriers of deities, and worshiping these carriers could bless the tribe. Different tribes and regions had different totems. Yanhuang China's totem is the dragon, while other tribes worshiped bears, wolves, tigers, and some complex totems could be combinations of several animals." Zhang Lingyu explained.

"The totems you're talking about, it's not just in Huaxia; other countries have them too. Most are fierce animals, and most are animals we are familiar with. But the animals carved on this totem pole, doesn't this totem look too strange?" Charlotte asked.

Lin Tian circled the big pillar. He really couldn't tell what animal it represented. It had stout four legs, seemingly stepping on a pattern of flame and cloud, wings like hanging fire. It had long horns on its head and a long tail at the back. Its most striking feature was its open mouth, seemingly with the intention to swallow the sky.

At first glance, it looked like a Qilin but was quite different. Qilin had no wings, but this creature did. Qilin was a benevolent beast, yet this creature looked ferocious, more like a fierce beast.

"This is a Hou." Zhang Lingyu stated solemnly.

"Hou? The Golden Hou, the mount of the Bodhisattva? But it doesn't quite look like it." Lin Tian wondered.

According to legend, the Golden Hou resembles a dog, extremely fierce, often eating people, later subdued by a Bodhisattva to be a mount. But the fierce beast on the totem pole didn't look like a dog, it was much more formidable.

Zhang Lingyu shook her head, saying, "Not the Golden Hou. The Golden Hou and Hou don't even belong to the same race. Compared to a Hou, the Golden Hou is not even fit to carry its shoes. Legend has it that a Hou is an ancient god born in chaos, on par with Nuwa, and has a myriad of connections with zombies."

"If Jiang Chen, Nu Ba, Ying Gou, and Houqing are the ancestors of all zombies, then the Hou is the ancestor of the four great Zombie Ancestors. However, at the level of the Hou, it's beyond the zombie category. If this underground space was created by a Zombie Ancestor, then the presence of a Hou totem pole here makes sense."

"Only with the level and strength of a Zombie Ancestor could they respect the Hou as a totem." Zhang Lingyu said seriously.

"So this fierce beast is called Hou. It seems we can be ninety-nine percent sure that this underground space was created by a Zombie Ancestor, though we don't know which of the four it is." Lin Tian said expectantly.

"No matter which one it is, it's not good news for me." Zhang Lingyu said worriedly.

She was a Demon Exterminating Master, a sworn enemy of zombies. Now, with the appearance of a Zombie Ancestor, how could she be happy? Thinking of the possible scenarios, Zhang Lingyu tightly clenched her fists.

Lin Tian noticed her uneasy expression. He walked to her side and held her hand, saying, "Don't worry, even if it's a Zombie Ancestor, I'll stand by your side. In my eyes, there's no Zombie Ancestor, only friends and family."
