. . .
It's been 5 minutes already. Ferris peeked over and saw the empty hallway.
Unfortunately, there was no sight of the two, and when Ferris tried to sense their presence, it proved to be more difficult than usual.
The blazing winds that had been spewing out from the cavern where the dragon egg floated were slowly filling up the entire underground part of the museum, creating a noise like interference.
Thankfully, it only affected the essence in the atmosphere and not his. However, the same went for the two people out to kill him.
I could keep waiting and ambush them, but how long will that take me? Ferris carefully thought.
Right now, it seemed as if time flowed faster around Ferris, constantly haunting him to make a decision quickly.
Time was the enemy, and it wasn't looking good for him.
Jumping off the shelf now and making a break for the exit he didn't know the location of would be too risky, but it was the same for staying put in hiding.
Fighting the two and defeating them before asking for directions was also a possibility, but since he underestimated Eidolon blessing users, the odds of winning had tipped slightly against his favor.
Decisions. Decisions.
While contemplating these unfavorable decisions, his ear caught the most tiniest noise possible.
All thoughts ground to a halt as his mind completely focused on his ears.
It was thanks to the roaring noise of the blazing winds that it became harder to track unique sounds around him.
And given how he was surrounded by dusty artifacts and boxes, hearing became harder because the wall-like collection around him blocked any sounds.
Well, except for this particular one he just managed to hear.
It slowly grew into screaming and yelling, with curses sprinkled around them.
It's definitely Artemis! Ferris went on all fours due to the cramped space.
He crawled toward a large opening, giving him a much better view of the hallway below compared to simply peeking from the side.
Holding his breath and completely restricting his essence, he went completely invisible.
He also hoped that the background noise caused by the dragon egg would further mask him.
But my scent? Dragons have keen noses, after all.
I'll hope she's too mad to even remember what I smell like...
After waiting for around a minute, Ferris finally caught a glimpse of them walking down the hallway.
She returned to her human form?
"Guess we won't find him," Executor rubbed his burly neck muscles, covering his palm with a soft layer of body-made oil.
Compared to his aloofness, Artemis was the complete opposite.
"And whose fault is that?! And who's we? There is no such thing as a 'we' between the two of us!" Artemis screamed, but compared to her complete wyvern form, her human form now was more like a rat squealing for attention.
"To be fair, you also got distracted."
Artemis bit her lower lip as her eyes had their own miniature earthquake. "Nnnnghhh! Youuuuuu!"
She pressed her sharp nails against Executor's glistening chest.
Oh my, they might as well rip each other apart. Ferris chuckled inside, but none of it leaked into his facial expression.
Unfortunately for Ferris, Artemis had much more control of her anger than initially thought.
She lowered her voice, but it was still as sharp. "Damnit, forget it then. That Ferris prick can die some other day. I'm heading back up."
The two stopped talking and continued with their walk, with Artemis leading the way.
Now, they were directly below Ferris.
He could still ambush them if he wished—no one could stop him, other than himself.
But with that teleporting blessing, who knows what might happen.
When I threw that spear, that person switched my location with that of the spear I threw.
So if I throw something again, will that same thing also happen again?
If so, I could use it to my advantage... but what if he expected that?
. . .
Why am I even thinking of such things? No way in hell I'd ambush them.
Indeed, that would've been a foolish decision, especially when Artemis said she would be returning to the surface.
I have to follow them now and be careful.
Ferris waited until the two were about to turn a corner, giving him the chance to step out from his hiding spot.
Once he did so, he hushed his steps until they were as light as snow. His breath was also placed in check as he synchronized each breath with each step.
Then, when he was close enough to see their backs far off in the distance, he mimicked each of their steps so that they were all in unison.
Baby steps... Baby steps... Ferris continued his tracking, this time careful not to bump into any expensive artifact that might meet his feet and expose him.
This world isn't cruel enough to make the same joke happen twice...
Ferris kept up his silent steps with his life on the line, following the two for what seemed like an eternity.
To his joy, they finally exited the catacombs of forgotten museum pieces and artifacts that had become too monotonous to even stare at.
Ferris knew for sure this would be his last visit to a museum; he had already seen everything he needed to see.
But unfortunately, he was met with another hallway.
This time, unlike the massive shelves, it had actual walls.
Worse of all, it was a long continuous line, the spots where he could hide, like certain protrusions on the flat wall, were spaced far apart.
There was also no furniture, other than several pipes and machinery too small to cover him unless he completely lay flat on the floor.
But Ferris wouldn't let that stop him. Now that they were somewhat far away from the background essence noise, he had to be extra careful.
When he saw sufficient cover, Ferris stayed there for a long period before stepping out to continue following the two.
This went on far longer than he had anticipated.
But thanks to Executor, who made random bursts of small talk, the air was completely filled with Artemis's loud voice.
They stopped in front of an elevator. "I'll head inside first. I do not want to stay with you for five minutes in that thing."
"I refuse. My body needs a good battle, and it needs it now!" Executor stood his ground.
Artemis paid no attention, opening the elevator herself and only for herself. She stepped inside and quickly pressed the ground-floor button.
"Let me enter! My body demands it!"
"You and your disgusting body!" Artemis hissed, almost attacking him then and there.
But when Executor forced himself into the small compartment, Artemis reflexively moved away and covered her nose. "Damn you—
Ding!
The doors closed, allowing Ferris to finally move in front of the closed elevator.
5 minutes? How deep is this place?
That's 5 minutes to go up, 5 minutes to go down, and another 5 for Ferris to go up once it's his turn.
Ferris silently counted in the corner near the elevator doors. Surely, by the time the elevator arrives, the two will be long gone.
Once the time was up, he pressed the button, waited, then boarded the elevator.
Ground floor. Ferris pressed his ticket out of here, the clicking noise even tingled his ears in ecstasy.
I should climb on top of the museum and wait there. Ferris thought about his next steps in silence.
I wonder what Prodigy Prince will send?
If the hole is too small, will he come here himself I wonder. Ferris questioned that statement.
Last month when he entered one of Prodigy Prince's mechs, there was clearly a cockpit made for a human being. So it was possible that Prodigy Prince had smaller mechs to pilot, so he could come himself.
I'll just have to trust him again. If I could get that with an S-class hero, then I'm set for the future. Ferris smiled and nodded.
Time's up.
The elevator doors hissed in front of him as they parted.
Ding!
Ferris was about to move out, however.
It's final, I'll wait on top of the museum and—
"You're still bugging me with that bullshit?! It's 100% your fault!"
"If that fight continued you'd be dead already."
Artemis got more pissed. "Okay! That's the third time you called me weak. I'm gonna burn you to ash, you motherfucker!"
How the hell have they not noticed me? Ferris was in deep shock; the two were completely focused on the argument.
On second thought...
Prodigy Prince can wait...
Ferris pressed the button that leads to the underground.
Click.
. . .
Unfortunately for Ferris, they definitely heard that click.
The three stared at each other in silence, even Artemis's rant stopped instantly due to his way too sudden appearance.
"Hmm... You guys heard that one, really?" Ferris pondered.
