SSS-Rank Engineer: Only I Can Create Legendary Weapons

Chapter 109: 109—The Ducal Houses[3]

"House Lysandra is one of the oldest houses, they have been around since maybe the beginning of the kingdom," Percy explained.

There was even some speculation that they were even around during the fall of the old empires.

He couldn't be sure of that thought. High-level spiritmancers could live for years, even normal humans could with special elixirs. But nothing Percy found in historical texts hinted to him that House Lysandra was that old.

"They have a very unique affinity for Ice spiritmancy. They can create ice from nothing and their ducal seat, Caltara, is said to be hot and cold depending on where you are in the city."

"ouuu, snow?" Flynn asked.

"Sometimes. The city is just inconvenient," Thalos added, breaking his long silence. "In Caltara, you have to check signs above the part of the city you're going to. To know if the place will be hot or cold."

"That sounds annoying," Percy chuckled. "Like dressing for winter only for the weather to become a heat wave."

"They rent out sweaters in some parts of the city when a coldwave hits," Thalos grumbled. "You can see the line between snow and normal heat sometimes, I heard it was caused by an interaction disaster."

Percy nodded; this was one of his favourite topics.

"The city is built on top of a Leyline. Leylines are like points on the planet where spirit energy gathers in high amounts," Percy added for Flynn.

"When Spirit energy gathers like that it creates an interaction effect, attracting more spirit energy towards it. Once it passes a certain capacity, this isn't fully academically decided yet, it will start flowing."

"Like a big ol 'river of spirit energy," Flynn said in an attempt to not look too stupid in front of Percy. But the moment the words left her mouth she cringed. "Just ignore that."

"No you're actually right," he said, patting her shoulder, "It flows and connects with other leylines. Creating a network. But this network is disrupted when people live on Leylines."

Flynn, feeling a bit bolder after being praised, asked.

"Because of their spirit energy?"

"Right again, you're on a roll," Percy joked.

"Their spirit energy is not… at the same frequency, is my guess. That or some there is a personal tint to everyone's spirit energy that interferes with the flow of the river. This creates an unnatural disaster."

Flynn followed his words a bit easier now, but something didn't make sense to her.

"Why don't they just leave then? If living on the leyline causes problems, then leaving would make things okay."

"Well they make a lot of profits there," Thalos suggested.

"Yes, Spirit refinement pills, special magic tools, food with strange qualities," Percy listed out some things he knew. "They can also control the disaster to an extent thanks to the Duke of Lysandra. And there might be other reasons why the Duke and his family don't want to leave."

Flynn nodded, grinning.

"Okay that was definitely worth pestering you for."

Percy shrugged, forcing himself not to smile back. They ought to return to their main topic now.

"So now, we can talk about House Thalassar. They are pretty well known, mostly for their riding traditions, epic stories, naming sense and their beautiful daughters. Like Treasure of the Emerald sea."

Flynn nodded wildly, an excited look on her face as she pulled out a small leather bound book.

"My dad's grandmother gave me this. It's called Journey to the Emerald Sea."

He didn't know much of the story other than its basic plot and it changes a lot depending on who wrote it down.

A man named Ander travels the dark sea of the underworld to save his lover, Treasure, after she's stolen away by the spirit of death before her time.

"Yes, they have lots of… stories like that. I can't speak on their truth—"

"This one is fully true, we just don't know where the entrance to the underworld is," Flynn complained.

"—What I do know is they are fierce warriors, blessed with powerful Earth spiritmancy. They live on the most precarious mountains and the strangest underground cities. Lysandra is the cultural spot for parties and luxury with their wine and exotic weather. But Thalassar is the home of stories and the heart of the common people's ideation."

"What does that even mean?" Flynn mumbled. "Just say it's cool. We have to go there one day."

They both paused when she said that, but he decided to ignore it, adjusting uncomfortably before he spoke.

"After Thalassar, our final stop is the Duchy of Orestis. They are mostly known for their Water spiritmancy, but more for their prophecies and the number of monsters there. It's like a stop in the hero's journey when they are looking for a reclusive but special monster."

Flynn nodded quietly, looking in the other direction at the rolling treeline. They were almost out of the forest now. So Percy gave up on speaking on the rest.

There was still the Logos and Hestia family, but they could speak about them later. He stared out of the receding treeline and saw Yarol in the distance.

The city rose in tiers over a mountain. At the top of the mountain was a hot spring that they funneled down into the rest of the city.

The houses were a colorful breath against the endless, green pastures surrounding the city.

The city looked chaotic and clusters of houses were littered over the mountain. All the trees around the city had been cleared out, allowing a naked view of the city rising above them.

The higher you looked, the more luxurious the house became. From wood shacks to great stone villas with personal pools.

You can see everything from here.

He could even see large creatures flying over the top of the mountain eerily.

At the top of the mountain was a great castle. Its walls were broad and looked impenetrable, it was divided into sections with tall spires and great drawbridges.

It was the home of House Neo, and the Count of Yarol.

"Finally," Percy said, sighing. "Let's get this over with."
