Return of the Mythic Bloodline

Chapter 258: The trapped awakeners

Angry Soul. A sword technique I recorded using the Phantom Simulator during the battle between Battle-God Aruma and the Ancestor of the Fox Clan. The very moment my eyes laid upon this godly technique, I was utterly mesmerised by it.

Countless times, I tried to replicate this legendary technique in Vyoman. Alas, each time, the lightning gathered on Vajra's blade exploded after shaking violently.

At first, I thought it was because of my poor control over the attribute, but I soon realised the fault wasn't in my control or execution of the technique. This sword technique was only meant for a cultivator awakened with the Yin-Yang attribute.

Both yin and yang energy were a necessity to execute the skill. Yin energy performed the materialisation of the Angry Soul, while yang energy was responsible for stabilising the Angry Soul on the blade, giving it direction of execution.

---

The moment Grendel's soul was extracted from his body, the Angry Soul's mouth opened wide, and it began engulfing Grendel's soul.

Meanwhile, the lifeless body of Grendel fell to the stone floor with a hollow thud.

"Yin Energy -30000"

"Yang Energy -30000"

Ding…

"Congratulations! You have defeated the Boss Monster: Troll King Grendel."

"Yin Energy +40000"

"Huff… huff…" My breath came in short, heavy gasps, my eyes half-opened, my body utterly battered and exhausted. I lost strength in my legs, falling backward. Instead of hitting the floor, my body fell onto the throne, Shinku no Sabi stabbed into the floor as I leaned on it, my shrunk arm placed over its hilt.

The only reason I was still conscious was that Pain Tolerance dulled the torment tearing through my body, while Unshakable Mind kept the overwhelming mental exhaustion at bay.

"Shit… I can't… move my body…" I muttered. The vision before me blurred, the noises turned distant and I felt slowly succumbing to darkness.

---

A few hours earlier, outside the gate.

After about half an hour, instructors and the freshers entered the E-Rank gate, a violent distortion of energy occurred around the gate.

Numerous bolts of black lightning erupted around the portal, turning the blue gate into a pitch abyssal black portal within moments.

The squad of four professional officers from the National Awakener's Academy guarding the gate couldn't believe what they were witnessing. Their expressions turned horrified, and for a couple of seconds, they couldn't react to this absurd phenomenon they had only heard stories about.

"A-a Bl-Black Gate!" one of the officers muttered, pulling the others out of their daze.

Not knowing what protocol to follow in such a situation, one of them instantly pulled out his phone and called the higher-ups of the academy, while the others rushed toward the village, ordering everyone to evacuate the area as soon as possible.

The news of the appearance of a Black Gate spread like wildfire across the country. It didn't take long for countless cars and helicopters belonging to reporters to arrive at the site of the absurd phenomenon.

"A Black Gate has appeared in India! Yes, you heard that right! It's an actual Black Gate!" a reporter exclaimed, holding a microphone as the camera zoomed in on the abyssal gate from afar.

The area within a 400-metre radius of the gate had been sealed off by barricades, placing it strictly off-limits to civilians and reporters.

Several awakeners in formal blue attire surrounded the perimeter. On their chest pockets, the emblem of the National Awakener Academy was clearly imprinted.

"Officer, may you answer a few questions? The citizens are demanding more information on this phenomenon," the reporter said, rushing toward an officer and pushing the mic close to his mouth.

"I have also just arrived here," the officer replied, annoyance clearly leaking into his voice.

"Officer Orex was present here even before the gate turned into a Black Gate," the officer added, pointing toward another officer who was drinking water while standing near his car.

In a flash, all the reporters' glares turned toward Officer Orex.

Before Officer Orex could pass through the barrier to enter the restricted zone of the gate, the reporters had already surrounded him from all sides, bombarding him with questions.

Seeing there was no way out, the officer released a sigh—a gesture of giving in to answer the information-hungry reporters.

"Officer, may you tell us what the rank of the gate was before it turned into a Black Gate?"

"It was an E-Rank."

"Why were awakeners from the National Awakener's Academy guarding the gate when this territory belongs to Blood Demon?" another reporter asked.

"We had selected this gate for the orientation of the academy's freshers."

"So does that mean the awakeners trapped inside the gate are all students?"

"Can you tell us the ranks of the instructors and students inside the gate?"

Releasing a tired sigh from the relentless questioning, Officer Orex revealed, "There are a total of fourteen people inside. Two instructors at CCC-Rank, and the rest are freshers."

While he was being relentlessly interrogated, a matte-black helicopter appeared in the sky, drawing everyone's attention.

Surprised gasps echoed among the reporters as they recognised the individual the helicopter belonged to.

The helicopter landed inside the restricted zone, maintaining a proper distance from both the barricades and the portal.

The door opened, and a man with a full brown beard and hair tied into a man bun stepped out.

An imposing aura radiated from his body, and even the air around him grew heavy.

The expression on his face was laced with worry and suppressed panic, the tension etched deep into every line of his features.

Everyone present—and countless people watching the news live on their phones or televisions—instantly recognised him.

"Bl-Blood Demon?" the reporters murmured before quickly pulling themselves together.

"The Blood Demon has returned from his vacation within just a few hours after learning that a black gate appeared in his territory," the reporter announced into the mic, completely unaware of the real reason behind his arrival.

"Well, that's not the primary reason why he's here," Officer Orex blurted out without thinking. "Among the freshers who went inside the gate for orientation, the younger brother of Blood Demon—Raj Singh—was also present."
