God of Technology: Creating the Internet in Another World

Chapter 175: It's Just That Simple

In the tech warfare system, once you become a cleric—even the lowest-level cleric at Sequence 9—using Magic Conductors lets you unleash some seriously powerful force.

Sequence 9: Magic Conductor Warrior. Strength and speed way beyond normal people, mastery of Magic Conductors, no Magic Conductor weapons you can't use, and all at master level.

And that's just the starting point. Go further up and the effects get even more impressive, with different levels of enhancement.

After getting Magic Conductor weapon support from Viscount Roster, Lava General Geyera found tons of former members of the War God's Guardian School, plus others who'd lost their homes in the chaos, and some who just wanted to join the technology combat force. He converted them into tech warfare clerics... In just three days, he put together a force of about 5,000 people.

The technology combat force, masters of Magic Conductor weapons, were like fish in water—quickly putting down the unrest all over the Southern Territory of the Kingdom of Dawn. They wiped out all the crazed Missionary Knight Orders and holy armies. But sadly, the Southern Grand Duke died in the chaos along with his whole family—not a single survivor to be found. The local nobles took massive losses. To put it bluntly, except for the border cities, pretty much the entire Southern Territory had become unclaimed land.

Leaving about 1,000 troops behind to keep things stable, Lava General led the rest of his forces toward the surrounding small nations that the God of War had already absorbed. Meanwhile, as soon as Viscount Roster got word, he immediately found an 'heir' to the Southern Grand Duke. Before the families that had married into the Southern Grand Duchy could even react, he brought this 'heir' into the Southern Territory of Dawn and, using those 1,000 war clerics as a foundation, started taking actual control of Highgarden.

Everything happened in a flash. Nobody expected Viscount Roster to pull something like this. As Finance Minister, as the lord of Roster territory, while churning out all kinds of Magic Conductors—especially wireless transmission devices—Viscount Roster suddenly showed up in the Southern Territory and grabbed control of the Southern Grand Duke's Highgarden City. And technically speaking, there was nothing wrong with it.

Some nobles, some families that might've had inheritance rights, were furious when they heard the news and almost wanted to go to war. But then they thought about the technology combat force's fighting power, how just a few thousand people in a few days had accomplished what tens of thousands of kingdom troops couldn't, and they realized... facing the current situation, they were pretty much powerless.

Especially since Viscount Roster was just the one behind the scenes, and behind him was the rising Church of Technology, while the frontman actually had legitimate inheritance rights. That left them with all this anger and nowhere to direct it.

Some members of the Golden Merchant Guild, knowing what important role Viscount Roster played and having actually made money because of the guild, had even less reason to cause trouble. The only one really pissed off was the Western Grand Duke, who'd been intermarrying with the Southern Grand Duke's family for generations, but he couldn't really get involved because of his position.

"Teacher, what do we do next?" The Southern Grand Duke's heir stood at the highest point of Highgarden City, looking at Viscount Roster with respect.

He didn't even know why he'd suddenly become the heir to the Southern Grand Duke, and the only heir in Highgarden City at that, the only bloodline descendant. But he knew that Viscount Roster had made all this happen. Without him, it would all just be talk.

"Not 'we,' you," Viscount Roster said with a smile. "You, as the only legitimate heir to the Southern Grand Duke, after arriving at Highgarden City, didn't choose to immediately inherit the position of Southern Grand Duke. Instead, you announced to everyone that you want to completely solve the chaos in the Southern Territory, avenge your elders and relatives, and stabilize the inherited lands before officially becoming the Southern Grand Duke..."

First, set a standard that nobody but yourself could possibly meet, making the position of Southern Grand Duke basically a sure thing, but not taking it right away. Instead, finish the cleanup work, get all the people—at least the surviving nobles—to support him, support this guy who can bring them benefits, to become the true Southern Grand Duke, their own lord! That was Viscount Roster's plan.

The entire Southern Territory belonged to the Southern Grand Duke, belonged to the Lord of Highgarden. Now, with tons of territorial lords killed, those parts would naturally return to the Lord of Highgarden. With such huge amounts of land, just need some reasonable planning, and it wouldn't take long to unleash massive industrial production power. Plus, they could build the ultra-high-speed train system...

The Southern Territory, Highgarden territory, would become the core region for large-scale expansion of the magic-tech industry. The remaining nobles would become the first batch to transform from traditional nobles into new industrial capitalist nobles.

Looking at his student's expression, Viscount Roster reached out and patted his head, saying gently, "Don't worry, I'll help you. Things will go much more smoothly than you think."

In the divine realm.

Ren watched all this and nodded with satisfaction.

Roster territory was just too small—small enough to only hold a few dozen factories. Mineral resources were nowhere near enough, and tons of raw materials had to be imported for production. Starting from there might work, but spreading from there across the entire continent would be really difficult.

The Southern Territory of the Kingdom of Dawn had tons of plains, mines, major rivers, convenient transportation, abundant resources. And now, there weren't many living nobles left to interfere. Gathering up the territories and wealth of the dead nobles would give them a huge amount of startup capital, letting them skip the hardest part of primitive industrial accumulation. Naturally, it became the best location for industrialization.

Once the magic-tech industry developed in the Southern Territory, the other regions of the Kingdom of Dawn and the Gray Fort Empire across the way would have to follow suit.

The only thing lacking might be that because of this crisis, the Southern Territory's population was extremely scarce, with a serious labor shortage. They'd need to figure something out from elsewhere. But in this era, people were actually the easiest problem to solve.

Just finding a way to dump Magic Conductor farming tools into other regions would let landowners and lords sell off tons of farming equipment, all of which could be converted into industrial labor.

"From the look on your face, you must be pretty satisfied with their actions?" the Goddess of Magic said with a smile as she looked at Ren.

"Yeah, the entire Southern Territory is starting industrial reform, and it won't take long for the surrounding small nations to be swept up by the technology combat force and undergo similar reforms. A true industrial age is coming."

Ren nodded. "The chaos caused by the God of War has brought us way more opportunities than challenges."

"Including that new feature you had Book prepare?"

"Of course. In a few days, once the coverage area is big enough, we can roll out the update!" Thinking about this made Ren even happier. Finally getting to this point!
