The Bodyguard King’s CEO Wife

Chapter 929: Mysterious Rescue

Soul Destroyer rolled forward smoothly, dissipating the force, and immediately leaned against the cover. At the same time, a loud explosion sounded from behind. Turning his head to look, he saw the small building he had just stepped on was blown into pieces, flames shooting to the sky. This was undoubtedly the work of the RPG rockets. Among the gunners below, someone had brought such a deadly weapon, unexpectedly daring to use it recklessly. It was fortunate he jumped earlier; otherwise, he might have been severely injured by now.

Bang, bang.

Soul Destroyer picked up a sniper rifle and swiftly located the rocket launcher hiding among the dilapidated buildings. He pulled the trigger, and the bullet pierced through the gunman's skull immediately. The gunman lost his strength instantly, collapsing down, his finger unintentionally pulling the trigger, firing the rocket straight at the ceiling.

Bang.

Another explosion followed, and the house where the gunman had been was engulfed in flames. However, Soul Destroyer wasn't in the mood to care so much. These gunners were out for his life, so he had to turn the world upside down. Dense showers of bullets fired toward the rooftop where Soul Destroyer was, and bricks and stones were hit by bullets, scattering dust. Soul Destroyer stayed hidden behind cover without raising his head. Damn, he needed a powerful weapon. Anyway, he couldn't stay here much longer. Just then, Soul Destroyer suddenly felt the entire building trembling, and his body started to descend uncontrollably. Soul Destroyer instinctively grabbed a steel rod beside him to stabilize himself.

Rumble.

The sudden sense of weightlessness made Soul Destroyer realize he was falling before he had time to adapt. His back suddenly felt a rush of impact, dust billowing everywhere. The building... had unexpectedly collapsed abruptly. The slums' constructions, of course, couldn't be said to have any quality. Under the combined assault of bullets and rockets, the supports below soon gave way, and naturally, the entire building followed suit. Soul Destroyer fell directly from the top floor to the ground floor.

"Cough, cough." Soul Destroyer dusted off the ash from his body. His vision was obstructed, but he could hear the noisy curses nearby; these were the voices of those gunners. Soul Destroyer was shocked, realizing these gunners were already closing in. He couldn't stay here.

Bang, bang, bang.

Soul Destroyer whipped out his rifle, shot in a few bursts toward the source, swapped to a new magazine, pulled out a grenade from his backpack, removed the safety pin, and dropped it into the backpack containing two more grenades. Mustering all his strength, he tossed the backpack forcefully, then sprinted away instantly from the ruins.

Rumble.

Powerful shockwaves sent dust flying everywhere, resembling a demolition site. Naturally, those gunners were unprepared, all buried here. Soul Destroyer felt a stabbing pain in his back, turning around to see that flying rubble had torn his clothes and stabbed into his back.

"Damn it." Soul Destroyer seized the chaos, quickly hiding behind a wall, looking dusty and weary as if dug out from soil. But Soul Destroyer couldn't care about his disheveled state now. Demoness should have already led the team away; he had to make his escape quickly too.

Soul Destroyer surveyed the surroundings. Luckily, there was a narrow alley to the right. It seemed as though fortune favored him. Soul Destroyer dashed towards it—it was a corner, and Soul Destroyer could even hear the traffic noise on the road outside.

Just as Soul Destroyer turned the corner, suddenly his vision went black, and his face was heavily smacked. He immediately lost sight, everything blurred, only faintly seeing a figure in black.

"Who... are you?" The figure in black didn't attack while Soul Destroyer was weakened, but waited for him to react.

"You shouldn't have come here." The figure in black spoke up, surprisingly a woman, which was somewhat unexpected for Soul Destroyer. Yet, in the world of cultivators, there were no distinctions of gender—only of strength.

Soul Destroyer pulled out a dagger and charged directly. Unexpectedly, the opponent calmly parried, also drawing a dagger, attacking back with precise maneuvers. Soul Destroyer dared not dwell in battle, planning to feign a few attacks and escape quickly. However, he soon felt the pressure; the black-clad woman before him had excellent skills, her moves perfectly executed. As one of the Netherworld Palace's four war generals, Soul Destroyer was somewhat at a disadvantage.

"If you don't move aside, I won't be polite." Soul Destroyer wielded the Long White Sword, intending to get serious. There were gunmen chasing from behind, and he had no time for sentimentality.

"Follow me." The woman in black continued, but Soul Destroyer couldn't quite understand her; he charged directly with the Long White Sword.

Bang.

The sword edge collided with the dagger, the woman in black withdrew back, dispersing Soul Destroyer's force, then suddenly rushed forward with the dagger, and in a flash, the dagger was already against Soul Destroyer's neck.

Bang, bang, bang.

At the same time, gunshots echoed behind; those gunners had caught up. Soul Destroyer couldn't act rashly; the opponent was evidently a master, no less skilled than him.

"Well, if you want to kill me, do it; I'm not afraid of death." Soul Destroyer said firmly. The woman in black sharply raised her hand, bringing it down fast, making Soul Destroyer think he was about to be killed, so he closed his eyes.

One second, two seconds, three seconds.

Huh, why am I unharmed?

"How long will you keep your eyes shut?" At this moment, Soul Destroyer heard the woman in black speaking beside him.

"Why... didn't you kill me?" Soul Destroyer turned, noticing two gunners lying on the ground, necks impaled with flying knives. Clearly, this was the work of the woman in black.

"Nonsense, I never intended to kill you." The woman in black had her face covered, making it impossible for Soul Destroyer to see her face—a deeper mystery ensued; who was she?

"They're still in pursuit; come with me." The woman in black spoke softly. Although Soul Destroyer was still hesitant, given she hadn't killed him, perhaps she truly was an ally, likely as not. Soul Destroyer nodded and followed the woman in black, both darting out of the alley.

.......................................

"Why isn't Soul Destroyer's phone on? It's driving me nuts." Demoness led the group to a base of the Netherworld Palace here. Medical personnel were available to take the five injured in for surgery. Demoness pulled out her phone, wanting to contact Soul Destroyer. But distressingly, she was unable to get through.

"Why do you only have a dozen people here?" In frustration, Demoness slammed the phone aside, noticing something unusual. Typically, a foreign operational base of the Netherworld Palace should have a standard staff of thirty-two individuals. Yet, here there were only a dozen, counting the medical staff—a shortage of nearly half.

"A few days ago, an unknown party attacked this branch base, necessitating lockdown protocols. Only a few were dispatched for intelligence outside; the rest couldn't leave." A member explained to Demoness.
