Somewhere in the world, on a beach with golden sand.
"Sob… Sob… Sob… Waaah!"
A little girl bawled her eyes out. Her knees were scraped, and her summer dress looked dirty and torn.
"Hahaha, stop crying like a baby!"
"Yeah, you are such a drama queen, Daisy!"
Two boys laughed at her. They were about two years older than her. They happened to push her, and she happened to get hurt.
They didn't take her pain seriously and thought that she was crying like she always was.
"Hey, leave her alone!"
In that moment, a black-haired boy—around the same age as Daisy—jumped through the air with agility unbecoming of his age.
"Hahaha!"
Baru kicked the boys across their faces, and they fell into the water with a loud splash.
They got drenched.
"Ngh… I am all wet now…"
"Baru, you will pay for this!"
The two boys stood up and tried to get hold of Baru, but he was slippery like an eel. They just couldn't touch him!
"You are too slow!"
Baru shouted, grinning mischievously, and he then ran behind the two boys, pulled their pants down, and ran off laughing.
"You…"
"I will tell Mom!"
The two boys, with their faces burning with embarrassment, hurriedly pulled their pants back up and ran off.
"Yeah, and remember my name—it's Kiernan Hunter!"
Baru raised his arms in victory, flexed his imaginary muscles, and grinned largely with his white teeth showing.
He seemed like a very happy and energetic child.
"B-Baru?"
Daisy looked at him with teary eyes, crawled on the sand, and hugged him tightly while crying her eyes out.
"You can stop crying already!"
Baru said.
She didn't stop crying and also refused to let go of him, making Baru sigh in resignation, and he then took some wet napkins from his backpack.
"Let me see…"
He crouched and used the wet napkins to wipe away the blood off her knees. It also stung a little bit because there was a little wound.
"Ouch… Ah… It stings…"
Daisy pouted.
"That should do it!"
Baru said, zipping up his backpack, and offered his hand to her, which she accepted, and stood back up.
"Why are you calling yourself Kiernan Hunter?"
Daisy asked curiously with her eyes still red and puffy, and they started to make their way back to the village.
"Because I will be a hero just like him!"
Baru said with a smile.
"…You're already my hero…"
Daisy whispered with an innocent blush, and she shook her head while hiding her face with her hands.
Baru didn't hear her, as he was thinking about other catchphrases he could use when facing against villains.
'Maybe I should've said, 'Looks like you need a cool down, villain!' or 'Sorry, did I just dampen your plans?' bahaha, maybe next time, but I need to throw them into water first…'
Baru mischievously rubbed his chin.
A short walk later, they arrived at the village, and everyone greeted them with smiles on their faces.
It was a small village, and everybody knew each other, but this island was close to a large island, where there was one major city.
The village people usually visited that city if they were in need of supplies that they couldn't find on their small island.
"…Oh, little Daisy, what happened to you?"
"…How did you get your dress dirty this time around?"
"…You little kids should be more careful!"
The elderly women said with concern, and they weren't surprised that these two little girls were again dirty.
They always went somewhere and came back covered in mud or grass—which was why they were called the troublemaker kids.
"I smell food!"
Baru's eyes sparkled with excitement, and he grabbed Daisy's hand and started running towards the smell.
"Not so fast!"
Daisy cried out as it was really hard for her to keep up with Baru's fast pace.
They arrived at a farm—it had several buildings, farmhouses, and fields of all kinds of fruit and vegetable crops—there were also animals and people everywhere.
This farm was the heart of the small village, and without this farm, the village wouldn't exist.
It was also Baru's and Daisy's home.
"Food!"
Baru ran inside with muddy clothes, but immediately, someone grabbed him from the back of the shirt and dragged him back outside.
"Baru Elios Hunter, how many times do I have to say, take off your shoes before going inside!"
Bella said with a serious voice, her eyes blazing like that of a mother dragon, and Baru shrunk under her gaze.
"Yes, mom…"
Baru awkwardly smiled, took off his shoes, and sheepishly scratched the back of his head, looking completely different from the energetic young boy just a moment ago.
"Giggle~"
Daisy just giggled at it.
Only Baru's mother, the beautiful Bella, would be able to stop his reckless self. She was like a goddess to the people of the village and like a demon in the eyes of Baru.
"Ah, Daisy, what happened to you?"
Bella shrieked in panic, crouched in front of her, and looked at her dirty dress and scratched knees.
Her eyes turned demonic, and she turned to Baru.
"Baru…"
"It wasn't me!"
Baru threw up his arms in innocence.
"It wasn't him. Baru saved me. It was Asher and Theo… they pushed me, and I fell down…"
Daisy lowered her head and clutched her dress, sad that it got dirty, since it was a new purchase.
She had barely had it for a week, and she had already ruined it.
"I will talk to their parents. The food is ready, so go change your clothes, and I think your parents will be back soon too."
Bella said with a beautiful smile.
"Okay!"
Daisy gave her a kiss on the cheek and ran upstairs while Baru mumbled something about 'unfairness' under his breath.
"What did you say?"
Bella crossed her arms under her breasts and looked at him with a cold look, but there was also clearly fondness and love in her eyes.
"You treat Daisy better than you treat me. I am your son!"
Baru said with a pout.
"…It's because Daisy is such a sweetheart, and you are a pain in the ass, Baru. But I love you too, my troublemaker."
Bella forcefully kissed him on the forehead, and he just tried escaping from her show of affection.
"Ugh, don't kiss me!"
"The food is ready!"
In that moment, a muscular man with shoulder-length black hair stepped out of the house with a cigar in his mouth and looked at Baru and Bella with a smile.
"Again causing trouble, Baru?"
Karma asked with a smirk.
"Dad, help me!"
Baru tried reaching his arms over to her, but Bella just kept hugging her, and smothering with kisses.
"If you promise to be nice."
Karma said.
"I will be nice. I swear!"
Baru shouted in panic.
With that, Bella let go of him with a pout in her face, and Baru ran inside to escape his mother.
His two parents just laughed at the sight of it.
"No smoking inside~"
Bella snatched the cigar from Karma, tossed it aside, and gave him a playful kiss on the lips before going back inside.
"I am actually outside!"
Karma said while standing on the terrace, and then with a smile, he followed her into the dining hall, and people started to pour into the dining room from everywhere.
The table was spacious, but soon, there were close to thirty people seated around it, chatting and laughing.
They were like a big family.
