Chapter 21: I Don’t Mind
The Celestial Art had a spirit, but it was only barely that—a spirit. Yet when it faced Li Tianwei’s power, it instinctively felt fear.
As a Book Spirit, it shouldn’t have been capable of such an emotion. However, because of the reason behind Li Tianwei’s fissioned spiritual energy, it actually sensed the aura of death emanating from him.
This was something it had never felt before.
As a Celestial Art—a method created by an immortal—it had existed for countless years and naturally understood that there was something deeply unusual about Li Tianwei.
Therefore, the Book Spirit’s first reaction was—cowardice.
When Li Tianwei saw the Book Spirit quieting down, he finally lifted his eyes slightly and looked at it.
“Come on then! Tell me what exactly you are.”
Li Tianwei transmitted his voice toward the Book Spirit.
“I am the Book Spirit of the Five Intentions Converge to Heaven Art, a Celestial Art personally created by Immortal Tianyuan. I was born from this art itself.”
“A Celestial Art with a spirit.”
Under the pressure of Li Tianwei’s power, the Book Spirit chose without hesitation to reveal everything.
“Immortal Tianyuan? What connection does he have with the Heaven-Origin Dao Foundation Method?”
Upon hearing the name, Li Tianwei’s first thought was that both shared the prefix “Tianyuan,” and there must be some relation between them.
“The Heaven-Origin Dao Foundation Method? Yes, there is a connection. That method was the Dao Foundation technique Immortal Tianyuan left behind before his ascension.”
“It is considered an extremely high-grade Dao Foundation method.”
The Book Spirit continued, cautiously raising its head to glance at the three-leaved circular mark manifested above Li Tianwei’s head, afraid that he might strike at any moment.
The Book Spirit also wanted to rely on the prestige of its former master, Immortal Tianyuan, to intimidate Li Tianwei.
After all, Li Tianwei had cultivated quite a bit of Tianyuan’s inheritance—he could at least be considered half a disciple.
Especially when the Book Spirit saw Li Tianwei fall into thought, and the Dao Foundation mark above his head fade away, it assumed that he had acknowledged its words.
Immediately, its courage grew.
“Now you understand my identity, don’t you? Since you’ve cultivated my former master’s method, if you kowtow three times before me right now, I’ll reluctantly pass the Five Intentions Converge to Heaven Art on to you and forgive your earlier offense.”
Having said that, the Book Spirit straightened its back proudly, as though the title of Immortal Tianyuan elevated it above others.
Unfortunately, no matter how much it thought of itself, it never expected that upon hearing this connection, Li Tianwei would instantly come to a realization.
“No wonder you’re all so blind and useless—trash!”
Li Tianwei muttered under his breath.
“You… what did you say?”
Of course, the Book Spirit heard him and asked in disbelief.
Indeed, that was exactly what Li Tianwei thought.
This so-called Immortal Tianyuan was a fraud—trash.
First, the Heaven-Origin Dao Foundation Method was utterly useless to him; it couldn’t even help him draw in spiritual energy.
Because of that, Li Tianwei had to modify it himself. If he hadn’t done so, he might not have even stepped into the path of cultivation yet!
So, in his eyes, this Immortal Tianyuan—this so-called immortal—was name without substance, utterly worthless.
As for the Book Spirit that had evolved from the art created by this same Tianyuan, it was only natural that it was blind and unable to recognize his true Spiritual Root.
Li Tianwei could understand that much.
“I said Immortal Tianyuan, that so-called immortal, is no good. But don’t worry, I don’t look down on you. After all, with my talent, I’ll definitely lead a new era of cultivation.”
“If I could modify the Heaven-Origin Dao Foundation Method to suit myself and achieve the Hundred-Day Foundation, then I can certainly modify you too—to make you fit my path. I don’t mind.”
Li Tianwei spoke earnestly, without the slightest hint of disdain toward the Book Spirit.
As for the Heaven-Origin Dao Foundation Method and the Five Intentions Converge to Heaven Art, he expressed understanding.
He didn’t want the Book Spirit to become dejected after realizing how useless its former master had been.
After all, the Book Spirit was a form of life, albeit a foolish one. But Li Tianwei had confidence he could make it soar—just like his System.
【Ah! Hey, hey! I’m not useless—don’t drag me into this nonsense!】
The System, which had been waiting to watch a good show, hadn’t expected Li Tianwei’s bizarre mind to suddenly turn and target it again. It immediately retorted.
“I know, I know. But I don’t mind. Having a master like me does make you two seem a bit incompetent, but I’ll carry you both to greatness.”
“After all, what main character doesn’t have a few burdens tagging along?”
Li Tianwei shook his head, listening to the protests from both the Book Spirit and the System, and sighed softly.
“I can only blame myself for being too powerful.”
He remained as narcissistic as ever.
【#%¥?……】
At that moment, the System once again lost control.
All the restraint it had built up—its resolve to stay calm and not take Li Tianwei seriously—completely shattered.
It began outputting a string of rough words, which were fortunately turned into garbled text by the rules restricting it.
As for the Book Spirit, it was no better.
Though it was furious beyond words, when it thought of the Dao Foundation mark that Li Tianwei had revealed earlier, it could only shrink back once more.
……
Meanwhile, after Li Tianwei’s successful Hundred-Day Foundation, the eruption of spiritual energy from Heaven’s Gate Peak had already led many to deduce that he had indeed succeeded in establishing his Foundation.
Soon, the news spread throughout the Sacred Land of Lingxu.
It was a grand event—the first time in decades since Bai Muxu had achieved the Hundred-Day Foundation.
Within Woodbeard Peak, inside the Pill Hall, in one of its alchemy chambers—
A cauldron floated midair, flames roaring beneath it, a faint medicinal fragrance permeating the entire room.
Li Tianchen lightly stepped forward and soared to the cauldron, waving his hand.
The lid slowly opened, and instantly, the scent of pills spread outward as more than ten pills gleamed with radiant light.
“Twelve second-grade pills, all of top quality. It seems you’re not far from becoming a third-grade alchemist.”
The ring on Li Tianchen’s hand shimmered faintly as Elder Ling’s voice transmitted into his mind.
“Too bad I didn’t achieve the Hundred-Day Foundation. I can only focus on alchemy.”
Li Tianchen sighed softly at that.
“All right, time to come out. The hundred days are up. I wonder if that brother of mine really managed a Hundred-Day Foundation.”
Smiling faintly, Li Tianchen gathered up the pills and prepared to watch someone’s “joke,” slowly opening the alchemy chamber’s door.
“Senior Brother Li has come out of seclusion!”
“Greetings, Senior Brother!”
As soon as he stepped out, disciples nearby greeted him respectfully.
Li Tianchen nodded in acknowledgment.
Just then, one of his closer junior brothers came rushing over.
“Congratulations, Senior Brother Tianchen, congratulations! Your elder brother has successfully achieved the Hundred-Day Foundation!”
Xie Youshan cupped his fists, congratulating him with a grin.
Li Tianchen froze for a moment.
“What did you just say?”
“Senior Brother Tianchen, your elder brother, Li Tianwei, succeeded today at Heaven’s Gate Peak. It’s already spread throughout the Sacred Land of Lingxu!”
Seeing Li Tianchen’s darkening expression, Xie Youshan repeated his words carefully, thinking he had simply been too excited.
But Li Tianchen’s expression only grew gloomier, his hand tightening around the ring on his finger.
“Elder Ling, what’s going on here?”
“How can a False Spiritual Root, even with protection from the elders of Lingxu, possibly achieve a Hundred-Day Foundation? This is impossible…”
Even within the ring, Elder Ling was momentarily at a loss after hearing the news.
“Impossible! Even in my current weakened state, my Divine Sense wouldn’t have misjudged it. Your brother is definitely a False Spiritual Root.”
At that moment, Elder Ling began to doubt himself—could he have been wrong, and Li Tianwei was actually a Heavenly Spiritual Root?
“Right… remember Elder Xu? Perhaps this has something to do with the Devil Cultivators.”
Suddenly, Elder Ling seemed to realize something.
“It seems that my dear elder brother really has some hidden secret. But if this is related to Devil Cultivators, perhaps I can use this to my advantage.”
Li Tianchen’s heart was in turmoil.
Back in the Li Family, he had always been suppressed by Li Tianwei—not only because of their difference in birth, but even in study and talent, he had never surpassed him.
Only after obtaining Elder Ling’s guidance did he finally find an area—cultivation—where he could surpass Li Tianwei. Yet now, with these bizarre developments, he once again felt that same suffocating suppression.
No matter what, he told himself, I have dual Fire and Wood Spiritual Roots of the highest grade, while he is but a False Spiritual Root.
The advantage is mine.
At this moment, deep within Li Tianchen’s heart, he was certain—Li Tianwei was hiding something enormous.
