The Frugal Mage

Chapter 154: New System Features

[ Phase Cloak (Rare): Temporarily shifts the caster into a phased state. Reduces physical damage taken and allows partial movement through solid objects.

Duration: 5 seconds

Cooldown: 10 seconds

Cost per use: 2 Gold

Type: Defense / Mobility ]

"Hmm? This is quite good but… I don't think this is great." Rayven muttered to himself. With only 5 seconds of effect, he would only get reduced damage and partial movement through objects.

Just how partial is that?

In his mind, he believed that the Spell's effect wasn't enough for him to spend 1,800 gold coins. It was too expensive for that ability. Perhaps there were cases he might need it, but definitely not something important at the moment.

If he were to purchase an expensive skill, he might as well get something that could help him in his business, or perhaps something that would allow him to conquer a dungeon or anything similar.

Anyway, he turned to the next Rare Spell.

[ Scout's Recall (Rare): Returns the caster to a previously marked location. Requires a prepared anchor point. It can be used to escape combat or reposition during exploration.

Range: 250 meters from the anchor point.

Cooldown: 10 minutes

Cost per use: 3 Gold

Type: Mobility / Tactical ]

Rayven stared at the spell description for a few seconds longer.

"Now this… this is what a Rare Spell should look like…" he muttered.

Scout's Recall was simple, but powerful. A prepared anchor point meant he could set up a fallback location before entering a dungeon or hostile zone.

With a 250-meter range, it wasn't just for emergencies… It was tactical maneuvers. He could scout ahead, trigger the spell, and return instantly. No need to fight his way back or risk getting cornered.

"Three gold per use… expensive, but worth it…" Rayven nodded.

Compared to Phase Cloak, this spell had clear value. It didn't rely on vague mechanics like 'partial movement through objects.' It was direct, reliable, and fit perfectly with his Mystic Explorer path.

Nonetheless, he didn't purchase it yet, but he already knew it would be on his shortlist.

After reviewing the Skill Market, Rayven turned his attention to the next unlocked feature.

He opened the Physical Augmentation tab in the system panel.

Just like that, the interface changed, displaying a window with tabs; Current Augmentation and Available Augmentations.

[ Physical Augmentation ( 1/5 )]

[ Current Augmentation: Body Conditioning I ]

[ Description: Improves muscle coordination, balance, and joint stability. Slight increase in movement efficiency and pain resistance. Enhances physical durability during travel and combat. ]

[ Status: Installed ]

Rayven nodded.

This was the one granted during his Tier 2 advancement. He hadn't tested it yet, but he already felt a subtle difference in posture and movement.

Furthermore, this was his first time learning that he could only do 5 augmentations based on the mark.

'Hmm… Five Augmentations is already a lot, I guess.'

He then checked the list of available upgrades.

[ Available Augmentations ]

[ Silent Frame I (1,000 Gold)

Description: Refines muscle control and posture alignment to reduce noise during movement. Slight boost to crouch stability, limb coordination, and stealth-based actions. Enhances body responsiveness during sudden shifts or evasive maneuvers.

Requirement: Must own 15 spells. ]

[ Sensory Boost I (1,200 Gold)

Description: Improves visual and auditory clarity. Slight increase in detection range and reaction speed. Useful for scouting and dungeon navigation.

Requirement: Must own 2 Detection Type Spells. ]

[ Grip Enhancement I (800 Gold)

Description: Strengthens hand and forearm control. Improves weapon handling, climbing ability, and object manipulation.

Requirement: Must own 1 Control Type Spell. ]

Rayven scanned the list and froze for a moment…

It finally made sense.

'So it was like that…' Rayven wryly smiled after realizing the purpose of the "Spell Type" he would find in each description of Spells!

Because of that, he swiftly opened his Skill List and confirmed the current Spell Types he had.

Mana Flick - Offensive/ Force

Appraisal I- Utility/ Analysis

Telekinesis I - Utility / Control

Detect Mana Source - Utility / Detection

Gust Step - Mobility / Wind Elemental

Stone Skin - Defense / Earth Elemental

Mana Pulse I - Control/ Force

Mist Shroud - Utility / Concealment

Whisper Link - Utility / Communication

Fireball - Offensive / Fire Elemental

"Hmm… I have a lot of Utility Spells… Five of them." Rayven helplessly smiled at this.

Nonetheless, he only had one Detection Type Spell, so he couldn't get the Sensory Boost Augmentation yet.

Although his Mana Pulse also allowed him to detect the surroundings, it was only a momentary sensation after hitting someone or something with his pulse of mana and stunning them. It was closer to an offensive Spell if he really thinks about it.

Rayven then turned to his lone Rare Spell.

Stabilize - Support/Healing

'I should focus more on Mobility and Offensive Spells from now on.' Rayven mused as he really wanted some firepower to improve his strength.

After confirming this, Rayven finally had enough and opened the Spell Removal Feature.

The interface was simple, but the rules were strict.

He couldn't just delete spells freely.

[ Spell Removal Conditions ]

- You may only remove up to 3 spells at once.

- You must maintain at least 7 active similar Tier spells.

- Each removal costs 25 Gold Coins.

- Removed spells are permanently deleted. No refunds.

Rayven gently nodded after seeing this.

"Makes sense… I can't just wipe my list and start fresh…"

He had ten Tier 1, or Common/Uncommon Spells, right now. If he wanted to remove five, he'd have to do it in stages…

He must remove three Tier 1 Spells first, then buy at least two new ones, before the system will let him remove the last two he wanted to delete.

He had to keep seven Tier 1 spells at all times.

"Twenty-five gold per spell… and there's already no refund on top of that." Rayven muttered. "That's brutal."

He wasn't planning to remove anything yet, but it was good to know the system's logic. If he ever wanted to restructure his spell list, he'd need to budget for it and plan the replacements in advance.

Rayven closed the panel, and he finally relaxed.

He was already sleepy.

"Alright… Time to rest…" Rayven muttered as he slumped on his bed.
