Elvira stood without any assistance at all.
She stood not with trembling knees or the cautious sway of someone recovering, but with the upright posture like a normal person would…
The physicians and the maids were obviously shocked. They couldn't believe what had just happened. After all, even if Elvira's merdians were fixed, they believed that she would still have to stay and recover in her bed for several days.
However, they didn't know that her Mana flowing within her body had basically strengthened her physique. This was only one of the benefits of being a mage.
The Baroness gasped, but she quickly covered her lips as tears welled in her eyes.
"Elvie…?" she whispered, as if afraid the moment would shatter if she spoke too loudly.
"I feel… strong," Elvira said with a clear and steady voice… "All the pain is gone. The pressure… it's not there anymore."
She took another step forward. Then another as she walked steadily around the room.
Her mana was flowing clean, and it was unimpeded…
Rayven stood still, watching as Elvira looked so happy. He hadn't really expected it to work this well, but it certainly made sense, considering how mana works.
The Baron then burst into the room, as he was already informed by the steward when Vale cast a spell different from Stabilize. "What's going on—?"
He stopped mid-sentence.
His eyes locked onto Elvira, standing tall in the center of the room, her cheeks flushed with color and her eyes bright with life.
"Elvie… my daughter." He muttered.
"Father!" she cried and ran to him.
He caught her in his arms, lifting her off the ground as if she weighed nothing.
The baron couldn't contain his excitement as he laughed, then cried, while holding her close.
The Baroness joined them, wrapping her arms around both of them. The three of them stood there.
There were tears and laughter mixed together as the weight of weeks of fear and helplessness had finally been lifted.
"I can't believe it," the older physician muttered. "This is… this is impossible."
"What did you do?" another asked, turning to Rayven with wide eyes.
Rayven exhaled as he certainly needed to explain how he managed to completely heal her now. After all, they had also called for experts, and they would surely need an explanation as well.
"It's called Inner Mend. A spell I imprinted recently."
"You imprinted that here?" the physician asked, incredulous. They knew about Rayven being an Adept Mage.
As an adept mage, they should have 7 apprentice-level spells, and 7 adept-level spells… It seemed that Rayven used one of the 7 slots of adept-level spells to record a spell in order to heal Elvira!
That was a huge sacrifice, especially if it wasn't part of your path. After all, mages had a very limited number of spells they could use, and it could be a matter of life and death.
"Is that alright?" The Baroness asked, since she was also an Adept Mage, like the Baron, focused on elemental arts.
Rayven nodded. "I also need a spell that can heal internal injuries, so I had time to imprint it. The library was quiet, so I used the opportunity to study and refine it. It's not a common spell, but it was the right one."
Elvira turned from her parents, her eyes shining. "Mom… I think I can be a mage now. I can feel it. My body… it's ready."
The Baroness laughed through her tears. "Yes, my love. You can be anything you want."
Then, as if remembering something important, she turned to Rayven and stepped forward. She took his hand in both of hers, her grip warm and trembling.
"Thank you," she said… "You've given us back our daughter. I don't know how we'll ever repay you."
Rayven gave a small nod, unsure how to respond.
The Baron approached next. He placed a firm hand on Rayven's shoulder.
"Come," he said. "Let's talk about your reward. In my study."
The Baron's study seemed like it had endured a storm. It was messy, probably because he was looking through various documents or anything that could help his daughter.
The Baron then walked to his desk, opened a drawer, and retrieved a heavy pouch. He placed it on the table with a solid thump.
"Two hundred gold coins…" he said. "But frankly, it feels insulting."
Rayven raised an eyebrow. "It's generous."
"It's not enough," the Baron said. "Which is why I'm offering more."
He turned, walking to a cabinet and pulling out a case. Inside was a silver insignia, an eagle clutching a wand and sword.
"I want you to join my battlemage squad. You've proven yourself. We could use someone like you."
Rayven looked at the insignia, then back at the Baron.
"I'm honored," he said carefully. "But I'll need time to consider it. I have other obligations… and I'm not sure I'm ready to settle into a command structure."
The Baron studied him for a moment, then nodded. "Fair. You're not the type to be caged. I can respect that."
He returned to his chair and leaned back. "Then tell me, Rayven. What do you want? Name it. I'll see it done."
Rayven smiled faintly. This was a lot better than he expected. "I want to work with other nobles… I want to build connections and expand my reach while I'm still young."
The Baron was stunned for a moment before he chuckled. "Ah. So that's it. You want status."
He didn't sound offended… just amused.
"I've seen your type before," he said. "You're young, so you're hungry for achievements… And in this world, that's what matters."
He stood and extended his hand. "Very well. I'll write you letters of introduction. Nobles who value results over bloodlines. You'll have your connections."
Rayven took the handshake…
This was exactly what he wanted to happen.
However, as Baron was writing the letter of recommendation, he paused for a moment and asked another question.
"If you want to request more, or if you need money, or even some special Spell Rune Models you can't find in the market, you can ask me… I'll do my best to help. In exchange, I want the Spell Rune model of your Inner Mend Spell."
